Re: Your introduction to Rayman
Interesting story
glad you’ve discovered the older (and arguably better) games
Re: Your introduction to Rayman
I watched a video by Edmund DZhang (a Chinese gaming blogger), in his video. He first said in the video that when he played Rayman 1 GBA as a child, he thought it was a stupid game and roast about Rayman's expression of showing his teeth. But in the second half of the video, he began to praise RO and RL crazily. This video had a great impact on me. I first played R1GBA and R2PS1 on the simulator. Afterwards, I played a demo of RL on my Switch and purchased and collected all of this game. I have completed the DC version of Rayman 2 on the simulator and all collected cleared R1GBC, R2GBC, and Tonic Trouble. I also collected the Chinese version manuals for R3 and Tonic Trouble!

Re: Your introduction to Rayman
Nice story! Do you intend to play Rayman 3 as well?
Re: Your introduction to Rayman
So my introduction to Rayman is actually Rayman Arena on the PS2. That game is the first ever video game I ever remember playing and everything from the opening cinematic and various music is engraved in my brain. I would later play Rayman 3 and Rayman Revolution on the same system. And lo and behold I am on this forum now.

Re: Your introduction to Rayman
Around 2003-ish when I was a kid, I went to a friend's house who's parents had PCs they let them play on.
They sat me down and had me play Rayman 1, and that was what introduced me to the concept of video games, and started my lifelong obsession with the medium, and the Rayman series.
They had a copy burnt to a CD, and I used to borrow it from them over and over so I could play it at home.
I was obsessed with the jungle backgrounds, and tried to draw my own backgrounds and levels for the game on paper, which sparked my love for art.
One year, those same friends got a Nintendo 64 with Rayman 2, and I was over there all the time wanting to watch them play it.
Eventually I got my own N64, and saved up enough money to buy their copy of Rayman 2 from them when they didn't want it anymore.
There was this time I wanted to trace the picture of Rayman from the cover to paper, so I put it underneath this mirror-lamp we had that projected anything underneath it onto the wall.
I spent so long tracing Rayman that the projector's hot lamp melted a big dent into the plastic on the top of the cartridge, and caused the label to fade. I still have this melted cartridge after all these years, and I confirmed just now that it surprisingly still works.
Once I found out there was going to be a Rayman 3, I was so excited! I got the demo, and I played it over and over and over. I kept drawing and designing levels on paper of what I thought the rest of the game was going to be like. Once I finally got it, I had such a hard time pulling myself away that my parents wouldn't let me play games anymore for awhile. Rayman 3 still has to be my favorite.
This was a lot, but it all happened in rapid succession, so it's all part of what introduced me to Rayman.

Re: Your introduction to Rayman
My introduction is a lot more boring, just a friend’s brother was playing it on his PS3 and I was interested
Re: Your introduction to Rayman
So, I already told you about my introduction to Rayman, how about my re-introduction?
You see, after having beaten Rayman 1, 2 and 3 by the end of 2003, I saw that there were no sequels (RRR went a completely different direction) and left the series behind. I was not part of this community when it started, etc.
Then, years later, on a hardware and technology forum (which had a subforum for games) someone opened a topic asking for recommendations for a platform game "like the new Rayman". I was like - "What? There's a new Rayman?" I completely missed the announcement of Rayman Origins, and only found out at that point. It was then that I also discovered RPC, made an account and started contributing little-by-little to the forums and the wiki. Judging by the registration date, it was in 2012.

Re: Your introduction to Rayman
Wow! Considering you played it in 2003 and were heavily online back then, I wonder what would’ve happened if you’d found RPC back then?
Re: Your introduction to Rayman
I was just revisiting some older posts of mine, and…
Does this mean you actually think Legends is bad?

Re: Your introduction to Rayman
I didn’t ragequit Rayman 3 or 2, only 1. I just got sick of the other ones, especially R3 on PC. I’m having a lot more fun playing it on PS3 now.
