I wonder that too, but at such an early point, it can only have been some general directions, especially if the projects are still in at the exploratory stage like they said. I don't suppose we'll ever know.
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
I hope they copy the movement feeling from whatever game they're remaking (hopefully they're remaking rayman 2
)

What do you mean by that exactly?

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
I'm assuming the "feel" of how Rayman controls should be retained from the original games, and not messed with. Think it down to Rayman's response to button presses or analog movements, how he turns, how he jumps, how much inertia and weight his movements have.
Some characters have a very snappy feel, they have a sharper turning circle, others are more floaty and less sharp so they feel "looser" in control. It's why say, platforms in modern Sonic games tend to be bigger (or at least they feel bigger) than platforms in a modern Mario game, because of the difference in how they move and jump.
It might not seem like much, but it can factor in heavily in relation to how levels are designed and a change in how Rayman responds and moves can make a major difference in how traversible levels are to players.
On the topic at hand though, I'm beginning to wonder what the long-term prospects for UbiSoft are, and if this project might end up in jeopardy. There's some rumblings abound that the company might end up getting bought out and going private due to it's struggles, and I wonder what consequences such an event might have.

I thought such rumblings would make it more likely that they'd invest in RaymanMaster wrote: Sat Dec 21, 2024 3:59 am On the topic at hand though, I'm beginning to wonder what the long-term prospects for UbiSoft are, and if this project might end up in jeopardy. Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Haha, in fairness I remember being amused by the fact that they very conveniently brought out BG&E2 round about the time the Vivendi acquisition stuff was happening, so that's a fair counterpoint to make, although nothing has come of that since so whether or not all this is just a similar signalling to put things off or if we'll see something substantive, time will tell I suppose.
That being said I see I was a bit of a prick in my response in that thread...

Haha it's all good, just being reminded that sometimes I need to be a little less harsh.

TBH I don't feel confident that this will become a thing considering Ubi's current state, but I hope to be wrong!

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
I’m sure it will, though it will probably not exceed our (especially mine) expectations
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
A bit of news from Tom Henderson who had first reported on this remake's existence. He has been very reliable about Ubisoft news/rumors these past few years, so this is most likely true.
According to this, the Rayman remake is not releasing before 2027. Not that I expected it earlier, but it's good to have confirmation.
Apparently BGE2 is progressing well too? But it's also not releasing before 2027.
Who knows who will own Ubisoft by then, though. The article states that Ubisoft was negotiating with Tencent for a possible buyout (with the Guillemot brothers remaining in charge), but negotiations have currently reached a halt.

The Division 3, the Rayman Remake, another Assassin’s Creed Remake codenamed Stardust, another flagship Assassin’s Creed RPG, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 (which is now progressing well) are further out.

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Thanks for sharing, Droolie! I didn't really expect anything before at least 2027 either, but at least, we might get some more details by then if they make good progress on the project.
Interestingly enough, there's no mention of a new Rayman game, only the remake. Maybe the former was never a thing?

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Could be that it was but they decided to pare down their ambitions and try for a remake first since that'd probably be the easier option? To be fair, all we know officially is that there was an "exploration phase on the Rayman brand," what that actually entailed, we don't really know for certain - we're going off rumours and leaks.
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
I saw this video linked to in the French forums by RayLums. Maybe others here have seen it before? I hadn't
https://youtu.be/ajZtURugkcY?si=f9wHfrx-zySVOHuv&t=1082
It's an interview with Xavier Poix (managing director of Ubi Montpellier & Paris) about Ubisoft's situation, from 2 months ago already. On the timestamp, the interviewer asks as an aside what the new game is that Ubisoft Montpellier & Milan want to make, and from what I understand he says something like "I would be happy to talk about it a little more some other time, not now. But in any case, next year, it's a promise". Considering this video was recorded in 2024, this does seem to confirm we'll hear about this new project this year.
By the way, he also mentioned that Michel Ancel was not present at all in the teams, they just consulted with him in order to be consistent between the older games and the new game that is in the works. (Consistency? In my Rayman game? And they looked to Michel Ancel for this?

I'll be interested to see how Michel well make sense of the continuity in Rayman as one game turns intro a mini reboot of the franchise

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Yeah, that's a good one. Origins clearly showed that consistency was the least of Ancel's concerns, and I might add that the main series game that seemed to care the most about consistency is Rayman 3, on which Ancel did not work. However, that doesn't mean he's not capable of doing it, and maybe he eventually realized that people care about this? Anyway, let's be optimistic about this, only time will tell.Droolie wrote: Wed Jan 22, 2025 2:57 am By the way, he also mentioned that Michel Ancel was not present at all in the teams, they just consulted with him in order to be consistent between the older games and the new game that is in the works. It's recently been discovered that in the description on Christophe Heral for a video game concert he's attending it says that "he is currently working on Beyond Good & Evil 2 and the next Rayman games."

It would be nice if we did manage to get more than one game
Either way, exciting news!
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
No it's actually plural oddly enough. Makes me wonder if he's going to redo the music for the Rayman 3 remaster like they did for Beyond Good & Evil? If they do I hope they also allow you to play with the original music.

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
While I do enjoy his work, I would really hope that isn't the case, his musical aesthetic was nice for the UbiArt era, but I'd not have it retroactively applied to previous games - I like each game having its own identity. I would imagine if the soundtrack was needing redoing it'd be licensing issues, but I hope that the original ost can still feature in any case.
I'm already a bit iffy in the fact that the UbiArt saga in general has become almost a now homogenous default for the series since, and this isn't gonna shake that feeling.
