Well, technically he IS fought in Rayman 1, there was a whole bit in a thread where someone looked into the filenames that more or less implies you are fighting Mr. Dark, from what I recall. I always thought the same thing about the health bar icon too! Most people probably only think you fight him the GBC one because you're fighting him directly there instead of in a monstrous shaped-shifted form like the other versions.TriangulumDelta wrote: Sun Jan 05, 2025 5:15 am Why do a lot of people think you only fight Mr Dark in the GBC version of Rayman 1? I always assumed that those mixed up bosses you fight was just Mr Dark shapeshifting since he is a wizard, the bosses even have Mr Dark's face on their health bar.

Does anyone know anything else about Ludimedia? All I know is that they developed Rayman and Rayman Designer, and they allegedly turned into Ubisoft Montpellier
Re: Rayman 1
Whenever I think about whether or not Rayman 1 is hard; I just think about Hyperness' review of it.Greengoop wrote: Thu Dec 19, 2024 7:42 pm It is, trust me. Pink plant woods gives you a false sense of safety
It's a bit hard but very unfair due to not being play-tested. The limited lives rub salt in the wound & the limited continues just make not want to play anymore. It's easier when you have save states or even just unlimited continues. I can live with limited lives, but limited continues & an untrustworthy save system? Now you're just being a prick.
That's why I tend to recommend redemption; it is a more accessible & actually play-tested version of the game.
Re: Rayman 1
You can farm unlimited lives by replaying easy levels for tings. Allegro Presto FTW. Just saying.
Once you figure that out, the game is no longer hard.

Re: Rayman 1
When I first played it I was 6/7yrs old and it was difficult but... never anything extreme and I never thought it was unfair, just had to "get good
".
I never knew about cheats until about 20yrs later, so never used them. There are way harder games than Rayman and many that are unfair.
Nowadays the games second nature.
EDIT: Also if I needed lives, I would farm them in a level like Allegro Presto or Pink Plant Woods or whatever level I wanted to replay.

Re: Rayman 1
What do you think Joe serves at his joint "Eat at Joe's"? I think it's a tropical breakfast diner, ice cream parlor, & tiki smoothie bar. I mean "Eat at Joe's" is a common diner trope/phrase.
I think it's a smoothie & ice cream place cuz of the place itself; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQJAo_0UaY4
Also in Rayman Redemption's version he mentions having ice cream in a freezer so I think he does serve ice cream & milkshakes & the like.
But what do you think?

Anyways, I thought it was just a cocktail bar, I never really thought of it that much

Well we know one thing out of the few scenes we see with Joe's bar, he serves drinks! What kind of drinks though, I don't know

Nice, you have now asked the title of a topic in the form of a question! Congratulations!Greengoop wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 8:37 am\

Totally fair. Personally though I'd recommend people to play an easier version of Rayman 1 if they really don't want to cheat before playing Redemption. The game feels....just a little too different to me to call it a version of Rayman 1 (don't get me wrong though, it's a great game). It's kind of like how I view Rayman Revolution towards its template: a reimagining of the original (which is what Redemption was intended to be if i have this right)Barakon wrote: Sun Jan 19, 2025 10:02 am That's why I tend to recommend redemption; it is a more accessible & actually play-tested version of the game.
Re: Rayman 1
Yes! Like the PC version. Not only is Allegro Presto easier as I was surprised to discover, but also there is only one Moskito! The Jonster wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 7:44 pm Totally fair. There is indeed some similarity in how Redemption to R1 is what Revolution is to R2, and it is even more different. Revolution really had mostly the content of R2, slightly rearranged + additional content. Redemption changes almost every level in a significant way.The Jonster wrote: Sat Jan 25, 2025 7:44 pmIt's kind of like how I view Rayman Revolution towards its template: a reimagining of the original (which is what Redemption was intended to be if i have this right)

Has anyone talked about Rayman Pocket? ITs a Rayman 1 port with 31 levels.

Idk if the demo is arhived anywhere, or if its even playable.

Yes, we did cover it pretty extensively here and at some point in the GBC topic, back when I did a lot of research to work on my GBC ReDesigned project (oh god three years already since those things, I really need to get back to it...EdgeRabbit wrote: Wed Apr 09, 2025 10:55 am Has anyone talked about Rayman Pocket? Though, I have yet to figure out how to make any of the PDA games and demos work...
And yes, it's the GBC version. Rayman Ultimate is the PPC version of the original Rayman 1.

Can anyone else tell me if the writing on this box is Hungarian? It appears to look like English and I think the box is from the UK, but I’m not sure if it’d be correct to edit it or not. Thanks.

Thank you! Do you think it’d be appropriate to edit RayWiki in that case?

Hey Guys, I have 3 questions about Rayman’s early development?
1. Was rayman actually ever called Jimmy, or was that just shit made up by various advertisers? Because I can’t find any evidence pointing towards it other than a few ads, and I don’t think it was mentioned in L’Histoire de Rayman.
2. Also about Jimmy: everyone says the “original” SNES plot was about Jimmy and Hereitscool, but the earliest adverts for the game use the Jag game when it still had the POW Meter for health. So would it be inaccurate to call that the “SNES plot” like everyone does?
3. Why, on the back of the Atari Jaguar box, manual, and many (even post-release) adverts show Mr Skops in the Dream Forest? Were they just too lazy to fix it, or did they think it wasn’t worthwhile since the Jaguar version was obviously not gonna sell well?
