a question of pirate community

Post by elantilums2005 »

so it's the THIRTIETH ANNIVERSARY of the Rayman saga, I guess Rayman is going through a midlife crisis  but that doesn't matter, are you planning to do a giant event to celebrate the anniversary (like the Rayman 3 speedrunning as an event for the 20th anniversary of Rayman Hoodlums Havoc), like a Rayman 1 speedrunning or something like that? or something bigger :bad:

You know, I hadn't really given it consideration, but you're right, this is a big occasion and maybe a community event would be a good idea. We've done anniversary things in the past like the Rayman 3 screenshot contest, so perhaps we should brainstorm some potential community events.

That's a very good point, we should start thinking about something! For now, do not hesitate to share any ideas you might have. :)

That's the anniversary of the release of the PlayStation version so yeah, that sounds about right. It's probably a good idea to start thinking about it now, though.

Midlife crisis? Do people in your country only live to, like, 60?

In fairness, it probably was at some point so there might be some memory there, though I think 40s is probably considered moreso midlife these days. At any rate, what ideas do folks have then? Might as well throw some ideas in sooner rather than later and get a poll up so we actually do have something to do when the time comes. It's only like 3-4 months away after all.

I'd be up for another Rayman 3 screenshot contest for one thing, the state of modding and modern PCs means that there's probably a lot more that could be done. I wonder as well, since Raymap is a thing, whether that could also provide screenshotting for Rayman 2 and 3...

Thought you were suggesting an April fools update for a moment :fou2:

Unfortunately, it looks like we skipped an April fools update again this year :|

It's been a month since the question's been asked, do we think we can setup an event or something for the anniversary event that the thread was asking about? Or is it something that might not be feasible for us to setup at this point?

How about a Speedray Fiesta with all games being included, EXTREME prizes, a posts in a week challenge, 50 tings per post, special ranks galore and an effort to bring back many members?

How about we deduct Tings each time you suggest a posts or Tings challenge. Along with removing said posts.

Oh speedruns, not my area of expertise, but that's a pretty good idea! Actually we can probably expand on that and maybe consider challenges in general that promote playing the games, that is after all what we're celebrating, no?

Anyone remember the "Challenge of the Month" thread? Perhaps a one-off revival on doing tricks or other cool things might be worth looking into? Couple that with speedrunning and screenshot challenges, that'll promote playing the games, and who knows? Maybe we can find new things to appreciate about the games playing through them again - the discussions regarding Rayman 3 with EdgeRabbit were a lot of fun, for instance.

There was also an idea iHeckler had years ago, about trying to get through Rayman 3 with the lowest score, perhaps we could also promote that and see if folks want to compete on that during the celebration period to see who can get the low score?

Ah yes, the COTM that went down last year. Most ironically the last challenge was a Rayman 1 challenge

It’d be awesome for members to come up with new ideas for challenges they’d be interested in participating in!
