Appeal: Lost "V1" version of Rayman 2 on PC

Post by RibShark »

When cataloguing all the various Rayman releases over the years, I noticed that the earliest known copies of the PC version of Rayman 2 have "V2" appended to the serial on the disc ringcode, and often a sticker over the box barcode with the same "V2" serial appended (with the original barcode on the box lacking the "V2"). This strongly implies that a "V1" version existed at some point; which would be earlier than any known PC build of the game that we currently have documented.

It would be great if everyone here who owns an original European big-box version of Rayman 2 (or even just the disc) could check the underside of their discs for a code that looks like this:
Image.

The known "V2" version has the code:

Code: Select all

5051916V2 19 OCT 99 MPO 01 @@ 9
It is likely the "V1" version would have a similar code, just with the "V2" removed from the serial and an earlier date.

Other known codes (that are not the "V1" version) for European big-box PC versions are:

Code: Select all

DVD 5051967 MPO 01 @@@@
505 193 4 00
Sono press ROM Z-4868/ RAYMANDEU A
If your (European big-box) disc has a different code to any of the above, particularly if it contains "5051916" (without the "V2") or a lower seven-digit number beginning with "50", please respond to this thread or contact me elsewhere!

Code: Select all

VTV -ESS308/D-20011045
I'm guessing this isn't the one but it doesn't seem to be on your list either…
