I'm With You (Sonic Frontiers) - SEGA SOUND TEAM, Tomoya Ohtani
I love Sonic final boss themes as much as the next person, they're usually very upbeat and energetic and really tap off the whole experience. But "I'm with You" I find particularly unique because it's not quite as upbeat but rather more melancholy. And for that reason, it's stuck with me on a far more emotional level as a result.

Awww yeah, The Biolizard's first theme. Obviously overshadowed (haha) by Live and Learn but even so it's a really good track. I'm glad they eventually released the SXSG version of this with the lyrics, the in-game version felt shallow without it.

And with the Live and Learn leitmotif in it, you could say it did some... foreShadowing!...Master wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 6:25 pm Awww yeah, The Biolizard's first theme. And yes, it was great to finally have the complete version in the soundtrack, although I still don't understand why they didn't add it in-game as a custom track... even the original Sonic Generations went out of its way to remix the US version of Stardust Speedway as an unlockable track so you can hear it against Metal Sonic...
The original Supporting Me remains what's probably one of my favourite -non final- boss themes ever in gaming, it perfectly encapsulate (like the Biolizard for 50 years) the dark side of everything related to the Space Colony ARK.
It really gave you the eerie sense of being pitted against a biological experiment gone wrong which towers over you with its massive malformed body, an animal tragically twisted by its mutations and by the life-support machines tearing through its flesh, something completely jarring for a Sonic game at the time... All the while haunting your mind with the darkness of Shadow's story through its lyrics.
As much as I love the various remakes of this theme, I feel none of them successfully captured the darker feelings it had going for it, maybe aside from the intro notes added in the Perfect Reflections version... And no, I can't take the Forces versions seriously because 1: they couldn't pick between being emotional and being a techno tune for a dance club; and reason 2: it's Forces.
Ooh, I love the Ratchet & Clank soundtracks from the PS2/PSP era! Oltanis Orbit in particular is one my favourites from the first game, a pure marvel of atmosphere!
Another one I really like just for how well it captures what Orxon has turned into (and the horrors of the difficulty in the Ratchet part

Haha Saturn I couldn't put it better. (Though I will admit I do like how brazen the SXSG version is which is why it's just eked out to be my personal favourite, though the original is a close second) And yeah, I do miss the old electronic aesthetic of the old R&C games, I don't dislike the newer orchestral pieces, Crack in Time had some nice tracks, but I feel like a bit of identity was lost in the process.
And yeah Orxon was a pain, though I think I struggled most with final Veldin. But I need to replay again so I'll have to figure out if that's still the case.

The SXSG version is probably my second favourite, I can't blame them for remaking it like that when they had to avoid retreading the Generations 3DS version and when the new context features the Biolizard as the very first boss and as a near non-threat to the matured ShadowMaster wrote: Wed Mar 19, 2025 11:58 pm Haha Saturn I couldn't put it better. Aside from very few exceptions in Tools of Destruction or a Crack in Time like Nefarious Space Station, it's crazy how I can't remember any track since the Future era... I'm perfectly fine with orchestral compositions in games, but they went for something so bland and atmospheric at times I barely even noticed the music while playing... It's not bad, but too different and pretty forgettable to my ears.
Oh Veldin was another nightmare entirely if you couldn't afford the R.Y.N.O., I remember spamming the Visibomb to a ridiculous degree and getting mad at the gadget management after my many deaths! Nothing gave me a greater sense of prid€ ₳nd accomplishment in this series than beating Drek!
I remember I had one heck of an addiction to that arena track as a kid!
R&C2 left such a good impression from its very first level music, I come back to Aranos - Flying Lab a lot!

I've never actually played the 3DS version so I can't comment there, though considering it was locked to a 2D plane I imagine it probably was simplified compared to SA2?Mortamon Saturn wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 11:06 pm

What's interesting is that Tools had the same composer as the PS2 games, it wasn't until Crack in Time that they got a new composer. I do wonder if the change in style was down to Insomniac more than anything else, given how they seemed to want to go for the more cinematic approach Future series onwards. I do like some tracks from the PS3 games like the aforementioned Nefarious Space Station, but also the Great Clock, Heroes Collide and Nexus' main theme, but they're still very much Space Epic vibes than the sci-fi electric of old.Mortamon Saturn wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 11:06 pm Aside from very few exceptions in Tools of Destruction or a Crack in Time like Nefarious Space Station, it's crazy how I can't remember any track since the Future era... Well I'm currently at Veldin and honestly it's not been that bad, bit irritating but the Visibomb helped cheese a good few segments. I am however struggling against Drek, and I'm running low on bolts so I might have to grind xD.Mortamon Saturn wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 11:06 pm Oh Veldin was another nightmare entirely if you couldn't afford the R.Y.N.O., I remember spamming the Visibomb to a ridiculous degree and getting mad at the gadget management after my many deaths! So I hadn't played the PS2 games until very recently, and it was that arena track at Maktar Resort that prompted me to give it a try cause it was a really catchy and fun track. (I did fizzle put halfway through R&C2, I think I got stuck at one of the Thug Leader boss fights...)Mortamon Saturn wrote: Thu Mar 20, 2025 11:06 pm I remember I had one heck of an addiction to that arena track as a kid!
Anyways to put money where my mouth is, here's one of the PS3 ones:
