Is Ubisoft cooked?

Post by frens »

so Ubisoft just sold very successful franchises (like fat cry or assassin creed) to the company tencen (sorry if I spelled it wrong) like what do you think are they gonna sink? or do you think they're gonna buy Ubisoft entirely (hopefully not EA if that's the case) but yea tell me your opinion

pfft...Fat Cry xD
Ok that's not true, the detail is in what Hunch shared here: viewtopic.php?p=1508023#p1508023

From my understanding, Ubi still has control over the franchises, they're just offloading the licenses to a different company that they still own, but Tencent has a significant (but as far as I can tell) but not controlling share in (25%). I can't say I know for certain what the future holds, but from when UbiSoft was under threat from Vivendi, a lot of effort was put in to stave that off. I suspect that they're ok with Tencent investing into the company, but they'll probably fight tooth and claw to avoid getting owned outright.

In my eye, it just seems like weird corporate accounting. For them being cooked? Well, bigger companies have gone under in the past, but I don't think that'll be happening just yet. As it stands right now, as an onlooker, it's an interesting development but I wouldn't be counting this as a death knell for the corporation.
