I think you should separate those pirates, like good ones living somewhere else and being lime-coloured, whilst the bad ones live on the ship and are red-coloured

Right, then you can add yellow-colored pirates, and you'll get a traffic light! Or something like that..
Personally, while color symbolism is good and all, i think pirates should stay as they are, no matter bad or good.

In England and Wales, we have these sites that are owned by a preservation (?) company called national trust, which are usually Castles or Tudor/Georgian manors.

I’m quite fond on colour symbolism to be honest, I think it’s a pretty cool way to differentiate the good and bad, since historically each side wore a different outfit to fight in.

It's tomorrow morning already so you may have already chosen, but you could pick any of the internment camps. They have a memorial attached to them and everybody kinda sorta knows what happened in them. Plus, you don't have to go into details because it might hurt sensibilities.

Bonus points if you pick one nobody will bother to check the intricacies, like the Struthof in Natzwiller, the only camp located in France.
