Re: What's your top list ?
So this may be subject to change as I've yet to replay the PS3 games, but as it stands right now here's my rankings for the Ratchet and Clank games I've played this year:
1. Going Commando
2. Deadlocked
3. The 2016 game (I don't like the story and the excess dialogue and tone, but as a game, it's very solid)
4. The Original 2002 game
5. Up Your Arsenal (Tad controversial, especially considering I ranked Deadlocked higher, but Deadlocked wasn't a mainline entry. UYA feels like it wants to be Deadlocked but begrudgingly also has to be a traditional R&C game, and it just doesn't feel as satisfying since the platforming segments are so bare in comparison to the first two as a consequence)
6. Size Matters (I think I said my piece on this in the R&C thread. It's a great PSP game, but it doesn't compare to the PS2 games)
I'll probably redo this list once I've played the PS3 and PS5 games.

Re: What's your top list ?
Is there actually anything we agree on?
Re: What's your top list ?
Definitely agree with your #1, I haven't played Deadlocked yet though and I really wanna but I will finish Up Your Arsenal first.Master wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 8:31 pm So this may be subject to change as I've yet to replay the PS3 games, but as it stands right now here's my rankings for the Ratchet and Clank games I've played this year:

I agree wholeheartedly, I don't like R&C 3 as much because I feel like all the exploration and platforming is gone for the most part and it's just trying to be a (mission) shooter way too much. Not a fan of the battlegrounds or whatever they're calling them.Master wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 8:31 pm

I've never liked Sonic or Sonic fans for that matter

Re: What's your top list ?
So if you're not fond of the battlegrounds in UYA you might not have the best time with Deadlocked, Deadlocked is effectively Insomniac doubling down on the arena and battleground aspects of UYA. To their credit, because they're not doing things half-and-half, I find the arenas and battleground campaigns are a lot more enjoyable, I think because there's a little more variation and refinement in them. The weapons in Deadlocked are also fewer but also more refined and focused, the Scorpion Flail remains one of my absolute favourite weapons in the series.Rsandee wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 8:45 pmDefinitely agree with your #1, I haven't played Deadlocked yet though and I really wanna but I will finish Up Your Arsenal first.Master wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 8:31 pm So this may be subject to change as I've yet to replay the PS3 games, but as it stands right now here's my rankings for the Ratchet and Clank games I've played this year:

So I guess I'll be interested to see your thoughts on Deadlocked, but fair warning it might not be to your tastes.
Re: What's your top list ?
Oh I understand what you mean! I just think it's too dumbed down for my tastes in R&C3. I think I'll enjoy it in Deadlocked because that game does it much more professionally as the entire game is revolved around it. Just looking at gameplay videos makes me interested and excited!

Re: What's your top list ?
Ahh in that case yeah I think you'll be in for a fun time, I think the combat in particular is probably as good as it gets, definitely at least in the PS2 era.
I will say I do find it funny it took them so long to delegate the shoot button to the shoulder buttons, one thing that I did struggle with in the earlier games was strafing, jumping and shooting at the same time. Pressing X and O is a lot harder than pressing X and R1.

You know what I will forgive you because you have Sonic 4 at the bottom and Rayman Origins at the top. I was talking about the games not the actual character.
Given the things I’ve heard about the fanbase, I don’t think I need to know these fans either. I like the series for the games, mostly the earlier ones, but I’ll leave it at that.Rsandee wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 8:45 pm I've never liked Sonic or Sonic fans for that matterI don't mean Sonic game players, I've given it a try a couple of times, I mean the real Sonic fans from the so-called Sonic internet fanbase.

The fanbase I think is notorious because it's just so large, you get all sorts as a result. There's a lot to respect from the Sonic fandom, they're definitely up there when it comes to modding and game hacking efforts. I'm fairly certain Hidden Palace, which is an invaluable resource for game preservation, was made with the involvement of some Sonic fans as well.

Re: What's your top list ?
I somehow felt encouraged to make a quick top 5 games!
To be honest, only top1 is clear for me
1. Red Dead Redemption 1. No words to describe this game. It was the best gaming experience I've ever had. It has everything I like in a videogame.
And as I said, from now on they aren't ordered, they're just the ones I remember.
2. Bloodborne. I've played it a few months ago but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be in this top. Very fun game and an amazing reference to Lovecraft stories.
3. Resident Evil 4. Maybe unpopular for some people, but it's my favourite RE game. The remake is also amazing.
4. Tunic. Again, it's been a year since I played it for the first time, but still, it's definitely worth it. It's an indie game, but it has nothing to envy to a AAA studio. Great mix of Zelda and Souls, with lots of easter eggs and secrets.
5. GTA IV. I spent more hours in GTA V, but GTA IV is my favourite one. Amazing and shocking story. Liberty City in this game is a piece of art, imo this map is better than Los Santos.
And...
6. LittleBigPlanet 1. Honorable mention to this game because it's responsible of me being active on the Internet
. I've met amazing people here and I still talk on a daily basis with a couple of people.
7. Rayman 2. Another honorable mention. In the end I like playing videogames thanks to this game.

Re: What's your top list ?
It's a testament to just how varied and vast the selection of games there are that I've not played any of your Top 5, even though I've heard and seen all of them.
LBP and Rayman are both games I'm very familiar with on the other hand, I am curious as to why you've singled out LBP1 in particular? Is it the one that holds the most sentimental value to you, or do you find the later games lack the same essence?

Re: What's your top list ?
Ooooffff I need to play Red Dead Redemption sometime. I definitely agree GTA IV is better than GTA V, storywise at least (physics too honestly). Niko Bellic is one of my favorite characters in any media, his story is dark, gritty, atmospheric and it really sucks you in. Playing V was fun but when I was playing IV I really felt like I was fully immersed into the game world.

Re: What's your top list ?
I don't think the others lack essence. It's true that I played very little of LBP 3, but I don't attribute that to it being of terrible quality, it's more about the natural evolution of a player trying new things. LBP 3 came out in 2014, and at that time I was heavily into RDR1 and GTA 5.Master wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:14 pm LBP and Rayman are both games I'm very familiar with on the other hand, I am curious as to why you've singled out LBP1 in particular? Why do I put the first one instead of the second? It's mostly a sentimental thing. I got it as a Christmas gift, it was one of my first online gaming experiences, and it was the game where I started meeting and interacting with people online... By the time LBP 2 came out, I already "knew the ropes". Still, even if it’s not in the top, I’m very fond of it too.
And on top of all those factors, I think it was also one of the first games that truly gave you the feeling of being in the future, a truly next-gen experience. It recently turned 17 years old, and it’s still technically impressive, although it's a shame they had to cut content to achieve that.Rsandee wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:17 pm Ooooffff I need to play Red Dead Redemption sometime. Ahh I get what you mean, it's where it stands in your personal journey in gaming, sort of how I'd feel about many PS2 games, even if I don't necessarily play them as much these days.DaveRattlehead wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:58 pm I don't think the others lack essence. Re: What's your top list ?
Here are my top 10 Rayman games, along with a quick review of each of them (this is a really long one, so brace yourself):
10. Rayman Raving Rabbids
This game was a fun one, especially with the musical cover and shooter games, but some minigames can be a lot more annoying than others (the cow swinging one and the bat riding one comes to mind). Combine that with the Rabbids' temporary takeover of the franchise and knowing that the game could have been an awesome 3D platformer, and the game earns its number 10 spot.
9. Rayman 1
The game that started it all is armed to the teeth with sneaky traps and unfair mechanics. While the music and art style is worth praising, the sheer difficulty of it all makes it an infuriating experience; so infuriating, in fact, that I never actually finished playing the GBA version of it. There is a better, more modern version of the game, but we'll get to that later.
8. Rayman M/Arena
This multiplayer spin-off has a special place in my collection as one of my first console Rayman games, if not my very first one (can't remember if it was this or Rayman Raving Rabbids). With its fun animations, great music, and solid gameplay, I have some good memories of this game. So why is it at number 8, you may ask? Well, it's simply because there are better games further up the list, not necessarily because this one was bad.
7. Rayman Adventures
Putting a mobile game in front of a console one might be surprising to some, but I don't think there's much of a dispute in saying that this was the best of the mobile Rayman games. Great gameplay, intuitive controls, expansions of previous Legends worlds, and all of the new characters makes for a really enjoyable time. Too bad that most of those characters were locked behind limited-time events and never came back afterwards. Oh yeah, and the game shut down...
6. Rayman Raving Rabbids (Game Boy Advance)
I see Rayman Raving Rabbids' GBA adaptation as a small-scale 2D recreation of what the console RRR could have been if it was a 3D platformer. It might be on the short side and its car-racing levels may have been unnecessary, but I had a better time with this handheld adaptation than the console original.
5. Rayman 2: The Great Escape
I know some people are going to come at me for placing what some think to be the best Rayman game of all time in the number 5 spot, but this is my list, not theirs.
The many new characters introduced, from mainstays like Globox and the Teensies to fan favorites like Ly the Fairy and the Robo-Pirates, make this game an important one, and the gameplay, story, and soundtrack further enhance Rayman's jump to 3D. My main gripe is that most of the game's environments feel the same. If you held a plunger gun to my head, showed me two pictures of Rayman 2 levels, and told me to tell you the levels shown in the two pictures, most of the time I don't think I would be able to tell them apart.
4. Rayman Redemption
Here's that better, more modern version of Rayman 1 I mentioned earlier! Ryemanni's recreation of Rayman's first adventure improves upon everything the original did and added so much new content that it almost feels like an entirely different game! The new world Playtopia is a welcome addition, albeit a bit much at times, and the Bzzit-riding levels feel like they were ripped straight out of Origins/Legends. The much-needed refinements that the levels got made the experience a lot more enjoyable... for the most part. There is still some difficulty in there, mainly coming from the Magician's challenges. While I completed most of them in 2 or 3 tries, maybe 5 at most, some of them felt like they were just there for the crowd that liked the original Rayman's original difficulty (looking at you, Pinpoint Precision
).
3. Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
The third game in the series with the third slot on my list; fitting, isn't it? And it earns this spot with its really fun gameplay and its focus on combat. Add that to the game's great soundtrack and its comedic parts thanks to the fully voiced dialogue, and you've got a recipe for success! But it isn't a perfect game; levels like the Longest Shortcut and the Tower of the Leptys can feel tedious or annoying at times, and the scoring system relies so heavily on combos that missing some of them locked me out of a few bonus mini-games. Regardless, Rayman 3 is still a great game overall, and the many things it does exceedingly well make for the best 3D Rayman game to date! There, I said it.
2. Rayman Origins
Rayman's return to 2D gameplay is a cartoony masterpiece. The smooth gameplay, the great designs of the characters - and I don't just mean the nymphs - the grand visuals, and the phenomenal soundtrack combine to make the series' second best game. While I think it would have been better off incorporating a lot of the scrapped content, like the expanded story with the Magician and characters like Tarayzan coming back, that doesn't take away from the experience as a whole. Rayman Origins is easily one of the best games in the Rayman series, and I'd say that it's one of the best platformers ever.
1. Rayman Legends
Okay, you guys probably saw this one coming. But how couldn't I place Rayman Legends at number 1? It does almost everything perfectly! You want great gameplay? This does it five times over. You want gorgeous graphics? This delivers on it almost effortlessly. You want great character designs? You got it, just look at the playable characters and enemies! You like great soundtracks? This has some of the best music gaming has to offer! You like games with a great story? Well... I did say it did almost everything perfectly.
Anyway, Rayman Legends is one of the greatest platformers of all time, and easily takes the number 1 spot as my favorite Rayman game.
10. Rayman Raving Rabbids

Re: What's your top list ?
I think Greengoop would love this list! If you swapped places Rayman 2 in last place and Rayman 3 in 8th place
Anyways, this is a nice list. Adventures is the only one I haven’t played and the console version of RRR is the only one I haven’t finished. It’s curious to me that people find Rayman Advance to be hard given that it’s one of the easier official versions of Rayman 1 out there (and there are cheats to help people).
