Well I'm glad you've heard it now! MK8's theme is one of my two favorite versions of Bowser's Castle in a Mario Kart game, tied only with...
Mario Kart Wii - GBA Bowser's Castle 3
(I really like 7/Tour's version as well - maybe even better than Wii's version - but Wii was the first time I heard it, so it gets bonus points for nostalgia)

I'm feeling particularly melancholic presently, and that final boss theme. Well, I've already said it before:
Particularly how it fades out as Sonic zooms through space for the final attack. The animation in Frontiers might be a bit janky still, but they knew how to bring together things for that final end.Master wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 2:29 am I love Sonic final boss themes as much as the next person, they're usually very upbeat and energetic and really tap off the whole experience. But "I'm with You" I find particularly unique because it's not quite as upbeat but rather more melancholy. And for that reason, it's stuck with me on a far more emotional level as a result.
Ngl, I'm still listening to the last thing I posted on repeat. It's just my current mood at present:

Sorry to hear that bud. Whatever you're dealing with, just know that you're not alone. If not anyone else, I'm here (no pun intended) if you need a listening ear.
Anyhow...
I've never played Frontiers for longer than 20 minutes, so I wouldn't know.Master wrote: Sat Mar 15, 2025 2:29 am I love Sonic final boss themes as much as the next person, they're usually very upbeat and energetic and really tap off the whole experience. Not at all; though Sonic Forces, despite its flaws, has an admittedly awesome soundtrack! Here's one of my favorite tracks from that game.

That's not too bad at all. Are you planning to come to Record Day? If you are, we should plan to have music conversations like the last one we did!
Trust me when I say this, I have a lot of music tracks to burn! No not like Angel Island 2, mind you!

If timing allows, I definitely plan to come to Record Day! It should be a fun event, unlike the BARREL OF DOOM in Carnival Night's second act. Glad this song isn't that one!

...Same...
and it's been lasting for... well... since ~2023 as I already hinted a few times before...
But despite the emotional power of this masterpiece, it always provides me with a strangely motivating feeling, about life as a whole, and to keep pushing til the very end of it, because there'll always be hope... and the power of that hope is right there with you, in your heart and in the palms of your hands...
Really, the final part of Sonic Frontiers felt like the end of something, something much grander than the game itself or even the Sonic series... the melancholic end of a nostalgic era... and then, like a sunny new beginning... A new Sun is rising... and for our blue hero, I want it to shine at least as bright as the best we got out of Frontiers and most of Sonic X Shadow Generations.
And man, the lyric version we got in Beyond the Horizon... It's so refreshing for once to get the opposite of what most of the main Sonic final bosses have done since 06, and have an instrumental piece being turned into a song with lyrics instead of the other way around (although it was for the credits here), and they've done that so beautifully!
It was just a shame that they didn't have the time to make a proper Super Sonic final boss in the original adventure... and I still can't understand what went through they mind when they chose to lock 99% of the fight behind hard mode without the game hinting at any content restricted to difficulty modes
And then Beyond The Horizon happened, and it messed its new shiny perfect ambition by expecting absolute perfect superhuman reflexes from you in order to have any hint of a good time, while the camera and trees do all they can to prevent you from seeing the things you're supposed to perfectly react to
Let me guess, the demo of the ugly Switch version with its enjoyable extremely short time limit?RayGamer99 wrote: Sun Jun 01, 2025 10:48 pm I've never played Frontiers for longer than 20 minutes, so I wouldn't know.

(I still don't know why they thought it would be a good idea to make it exclusive to that console marketing-wise... but it probably came from the same guy who decided the difficulty thing and the that came out of nowhere
And gosh, I could never get enough of Undefeatable!... In fact, so much so that I made a ridiculous Rayman level out of it!
...twice!
Oh no not at all, don't worry! I wish I was you and didn't know anything more about this tragically boring and disappointing piece of dump that costed 40€ of my precious money, ~three hours of my life and most of the remaining faith I had in Sonic back thenThe Jonster wrote: Mon Jun 02, 2025 1:12 am Oh! Besides the aforementioned track (which I cannot listen to without having some fair share of ironic laughter!) and a few like the Episode Shadow stuff and the Gangnam Style remixes of InFiNiTe the Weak Edgy Wasted Potential™ (do not steal)/Bad Mephiles Wannabe, I still can't memorize or greatly enjoy anything from this pile of techno dubstep mud!
And no, before anyone asks, the silly "power of friendship" anime theme of the painfully mediocre final boss/Recycled Nega-Wisp Armor For The Third Time™ couldn't convince me either!
And yes, if you couldn't tell, despite roughly 8 years having gone by (already...
In all seriousness, I'm mostly exaggerating for the sheer sake of taking my piss on that bland underwhelming game as I'll never miss any opportunity to do so! It does have a good Sonic soundtrack and a very good one for videos games in general!...
But I still think that this is easily one of Sonic weakest's mainline OSTs, and I'm really not fond of its omnipresent electronic style... and I lack the imagination to picture how anyone on this planet could even have a good time hearing the music for Classic Sonic's stages!
So anyway, here's Forces but as an actually good game, and all it took was two levels without any actual story context to make an Infinite-ly more enjoyable and impactful experience!
Sonic X Shadow Generations - Sunset Heights Act 2
Now, this is what I would have liked to experience in 2017!
Oh gosh, I got introduced to that abomination this year, and despite having already heard of it and seen the explanation years ago, it still took me minutes to figure out what to do with this thing!RayGamer99 wrote: Mon Jun 02, 2025 12:11 pm It should be a fun event, unlike the BARREL OF DOOM in Carnival Night's second act.

I agree that Forces was on the weaker side when compared to other mainline Sonic games, but I can't help but notice that almost every mainline Sonic title has at least one or two good songs in it. I guess those weaker OSTs just get lucky once in a while?Mortamon Saturn wrote: Mon Jun 02, 2025 2:12 pm In all seriousness, I'm mostly exaggerating for the sheer sake of taking my piss on that bland underwhelming game as I'll never miss any opportunity to do so! Why they decided to name the boss Eggrobo when a Badnik already has that name is beyond me.

I played Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the first time a few years ago when it came out with Sonic Origins (that was the main draw for me getting the game anyhow, since I had already completed the mobile versions of 1, CD, and 2 when I was younger), and thanks to the advances in technology I knew from the get-go how to get past the BARREL OF DOOM. That said, I still tried (and failed) to get past it by jumping on it, just for fun. In 2011, as part of the Summer of Sonic event, one of the game's main programmers Yuji Naka went as far as giving his official apology for that particular Spinning Wheel's (yep, that's what it's official name is) inclusion in the game!
Anyway, here's the prototype version of the theme of the act that gave so many people so much trouble...

Jokes aside, Eggman's boss theme from that game has always been fairly good in my opinion - nowhere near as good as his other boss themes, but still pretty solid.
Well I must really applaud your ears, because aside from the Classic boss themes which are kind of passable, mine just say "NO" when hearing those tracks!
Though I still have no idea how they went from the very solid Classic Sonic themes in Generations, to... whatever this was in Forces!
(But to be fair, the exact same question can also be raised about how they went on to making this joke of a game when they already did the 3D boost formula THREE times before and did the gameplay Infinite infinitely better during each of those times!
Oh come on, Sonic Lost World wasn't a bad game!... It's just that it wasn't much of a good one either.RayGamer99 wrote: Mon Jun 02, 2025 2:52 pm Anyhow, on the topic of good Eggman themes in bad Sonic games...

(That aside, while it isn't as great in my eyes as the instrumental final themes we got in 06, Unleashed and Colours, I really like this theme!
"Eggrobo", you say...? All I see is "Recycled Nega-Wisp Armor Battle For The Second Time™"!
And I still don't get either why the final boss of Forces was called Death Egg Robot AGAIN when it doesn't even look like one and appears in a game with OTHER mass-produced Death Egg Robots!...
It should have been called: "We Really Ran Out Of Ideas So Here Are The Egg Dragoon Mk.II, Phantom Ruby Zavok and Nega-Wisp Armor Battles All In One©"!
And if Sonic Forces Ultimate (now with x200 times more glitches and godawful music remixes!) in 2037 doesn't display this entire title on screen when the battle begins, I'll go litter SEGA's headquarters
Turns out I had the same experience, except it was this year!RayGamer99 wrote: Tue Jun 03, 2025 1:50 pm I played Sonic 3 & Knuckles for the first time a few years ago when it came out with Sonic Origins
