Thank you so much everyone, that day went well, you're all very kind! :D

As a few of you may guess, it was a... CHAOS BLAST! :bad:

Thank you, I'll make sure to pass your wishes to my good twin brother! :)
In fact, he sent us a picture of his happy face yesterday to thank us!:

You can tell us apart by any "pixels morts" you may see on your screen where the picture is displayed :noel:
But what nobody knows is that he has been dead for years and used to be a certain RPC member called "Rayman Saturn"... I killed him and took his place a few years ago, and nobody will ever notice. >:)

Oh wow, I must've been SUPER tired if I thought you had a faker, Mortamon Saturn! :bad:

Man, how did I mess that up?
"Oh crud, I missed two birthdays? Uh...Yup, guess so. Mortamon and Saturn...Better make a post!"
(I miss tons of birthdays actually... :oops2: )

So I'm assuming Mortamon comes pre-packed with a tragic backstory(tm)? Kidding, kidding.

Did I think Saturn was another member, maybe? Nobody even has Saturn as a username though...Yet. Who knows, maybe someday someone with the same birthday will come along and call themselves Saturn.

Hey...Wait a sec, did you change your username or something?! My memory kinda sucks so I can't really remember...The Rayman Saturn joke was pretty good though. (That uh..."gift" you got was thoughtful too, I guess?)

Also that url gives me a good laugh because Pokemon Stadium, a Pokemon game actually for the N64, had animations for every move. Even the useless in-battle ones. Whereas Sword has visual chess pieces in the move animation department. :oops2:

Having such abilities during a party would turn everything into a Death Ruin!... Yeah, I'm out of Shadow puns. :noelnoir:

"Chess pieces!" I think that's the best description of these animations I've ever seen!
It's really one of the reasons why I've been boycotting the franchise since the GO/Switch era (and it breaks my heart as I was into Pokémon ever since first gen and loved almost all of it up to Ultra-Sun/Ultra-Moon), the second being the fact that you can no longer have every Pokémon plus the removal of fun content like Mega-Evolutions, which defeated the entire purpose of committing yourself to the series as you could "upgrade" whenever a new game came out... :(
I still did enjoy Sword (it's Pokémon, so it's fun by default even if you rehash the same dump 200 times :hap: ), and I have just made it to the credits, but it's so flawed and so far behind in so many ways for a 2019 game that I could dedicate a BOOK to listing everything it does wrong, no hyperbole! :mefiant:

[Seriously, when you look at most other RPGs on the Switch like Dragon Quest XI S (from the *actual* series that introduced monster catching mechanics, in DQ III & V), it's a complete joke! DQ XI S runs smoothly at 60 fps while retaining barely downgraded PS4 graphics (*and* with enhanced lighting in interior areas!), *while* having proper detailled animations for pretty much *everything* monsters and characters can do, *while* having a far bigger world with animated environmental details *and* lively monsters performing immersive animations and unique behaviors in most spots where you find them!
There's no acceptable excuse for Pokémon, the most successful media franchise on Earth, to be so lazy and far behind! Even DQ VIII (my favourite game of all time btw :nostalgic: :coeur: ), a PS2 (+mobile/3DS) game with a bit of monster taming mechanics, had better environments and animations! :boon:]
...But hey, this isn't the place to go into a Pocketmonsters-that-don't-really-fit-in-your-pockets-anymore-cuz-the-Switch-is-too-big rant, and I've already just done enough of a Sonic Farces/Lost World rambling in the music topic! :P :oops2:

It was indeed my previous username when I just called myself after the version of the first Rayman (AND video game) I've played in my life!
But then, after the birth of Rayfanpedia, I got to ask to merge it with the username I have since I became a content creator™ in 2018, to finally update my identity here and so I wouldn't be like the dozens of other "Raymans" (Raymen?) we already have as members on the forum!
Or at least, that's what I would like you all to think... >:D
CosmicStrider wrote: Fri Jun 06, 2025 8:46 pm So I'm assuming Mortamon comes pre-packed with a tragic backstory(tm)? Kidding, kidding.
As for the pseudonym, well I could have definitely imagined a better sounding one, but here's the pre-packed tragic backstory™ long story so it can finally be told on RPC: it's basically a twisted/"no copyright infringement" version of my old general gaming username: "Mortamor", named after one of the main villains in the Dragon Quest series (who is a demon god ruling over a nightmare world and who feeds on the suffering of the humans trapped there, because I was the kind of depressed edgy kid back then who thought listening to "I Am All of Me" and "Almost Dead" every day was so c00l, d4rk and B4D4SS! :fou2: :noelnoir: ).

So then I renamed it to a mixture of "Mort" (if you're French or Greengoop, you should already know what it means! :P ) cuz muh cOOl d4rKneSs!!1!, and "Amon/Amun": the Egyptian deity whose name means "hidden" (or whatever is the exact English equivalent) as it's impossible to know his real form, which I chose because I was always a big fan of ancient Egyptian mythology (blame PowerSlave/Exhumed, Age of Mythology and Titan Quest for that! :mryellow: )...
And because Mortamon was one of the prototype names for one of the primordial gods of the book series/universe I'm creating (a god of infinite appearances whose true form is a mystery to all) and it went along my sense of anonymity on the Internet...
And in perspective, I should have realized sooner that the pronunciation sucked BOTH in French and English, that it would probably make me sound like a posh pretentious knob with a god complex whenever I explain its origin (hi :hap: ), and would forever harm my creations' visibility in every algorithm due to the oh so very naughty French word about a natural process that happens to everyone and every living thing on Earth. :hap: :oops2: (Enjoy growing older and wiser every year... I'll be waiting. :bad: )

I honestly though you did it on purpose as a joke on the planet or something, so I rolled with it!

I was not expecting a JOJO reference, though it's funny that you bring that up; I've been meaning to try Heritage of the Future on our Dreamcast lately! I'll admit that I'm...okay at fighting games and between my siblings, I'm usually the last to jump into things, but I picked out a good chunk of the roster to try out when I get to it. Those being Hol Horse, Iggy, DIO/Shadow DIO, Kakyoin, and the cooler Kakyoin. 8)

Never mind that Kakyoin worked against and was the undoing to someone who can control time, it's not like my username has anything to do with betraying time or anything. It can definitely be retroactively applied to it as one of many meanings/inspirations, though.

Originally, ChronicTraitor was named as such to work in tandem with CosmicStrider, and came about because of Robot Unicorn Attack 2.
Everyone in our school was playing it at lunch, and I was on Team Inferno before switching sides. I used most of the Chronoscopic set and the team change prompt ended with "You traitor!". I liked how ChronicTraitor sounded, so I used it as my internet name later on when I needed one.

It can also apply to anything/anyone referring to time or betrayal. Shadow's Chaos Control and doing Hero things on Dark routes has Doom's Eye call him a traitor, Aeon from Castlevania Judgment is basically the embodiment of the earlier games' timers, Cyprien is outright called a traitor halfway through Cyprien's Chronicles, and loosely connected are Ape Escape and Blinx, both games that have to do with racing against time and in Blinx's case, using time to proceed. I tend to pick characters that aren't exactly trustworthy, crazy, or the total opposites to what Cosmic picks.

Learning about your username's backstory was really enlightening. It makes sense now! (I thought it sounded like a Digimon or a Yugioh card. :oops2:)

It's nice that you at least got Ocarina of Time (or another copy of it, from the sounds of things?) to make up for Sword's shortcomings! I don't have the copy I grew up with anymore, but the music and the memories of it always gets me a little teary-eyed. :nostalgic: At least I still have Smash64, so I can always remember it that way. I like most of the stages, but Hyrule Castle and Dreamland are the best stages to me. Gourmet Race is my fight song in 64 as someone who mains Kirby. I also play Ness, Luigi, and Link equally as effectively, but Kirby is my go-to main. (Yes, even in Melee.)

That's enough out of me though, before we hijack another thread with Sonic song references, Jojokes, username lore drops and Smash mains.

I caught that master plan reference, Mortamon! :hehe: And the rest too.

Hahaha, I had a pretty good laugh all across the post.

Funny thing is, I can totally agree with Pokémon going downhill. I stopped at Alpha Sapphire...And I've been playing since Pokémon BLUE. It was like...Blue, (I need a new copy, my OG copy died from my favorite glitchy Flareon, LONG STORY.) Silver, Stadium 1/2, Ruby, Gale of Darkness, (I gotta get back to it...) Mystery Dungeon Blue, Platinum, Soul Silver, Mystery Dungeon Sky, Battle Revolution, Y, Super Mystery Dungeon, (Did NOT like that one, slogged through it anyways to get my money's worth...) and finally Alpha Sapphire. Kinda just...Stopped after that.

Plot twist, I was not kill after my Blue game went kaput. I bought Fire Red (Which was 140$!) on the GBA for my DSI. But I really don't Pokémon like I used to. It's kinda hard to find the motivation when you gotta start from scratch, instead of grinding like crazy and catching loads of Mons and then the game glitching out and handing you 7 level 100's...Blue. :paranormal:

...But I did assemble a team for a Blue redo someday, and for Fire Red too. And I bothered to restart Soul Silver and Gale Of Darkness, so I must care even a little. And I still need to recomplete Soul Silver. I just gotta get past the elite four/champ...Maybe I should put it in my DS slot? :D

But yeah, as for Pokémon nowadays? Man. I really don't know what to say that hasn't been said already. It's so...Stiff. But I mean, it does excel in some places, but really suffers in other places...

Also, funny you mentioned JOJO there. In the Dreamcast version of Jojo Heritage Of The Future, I managed to unlock Young Joseph myself, which was a miracle considering I had to blindly run through Old Joseph's story in Jojo's Venture to get him. I'd never even played Old Joseph so I totally winged it, but somehow managed. (Also found out I could wreck CPUs with Jotaro by just approaching them and using the light punch button. I figured typical fighting game knowledge was USELESS in this game, and tossing all of that out the window did work...) Young Joseph's a total blast to play, was totally worth cheesing the heck outta Iced with Old Joseph's uppercut juggle. (I would not have passed him without that.) And punching straight through a decisive hit against DIO on the final round. Yeah, unlocking Young Joseph cut it that close!

And hey! Mortamon's not an edgy username to me. I think it's really cool your name's a reference to Dragon's Quest! I had the 3rd one on the Gameboy a long, LONG time ago. Don't know what ever happened to it.
Was probably sold behind kid me's back. :?

Right, don't wanna get off topic. if I missed any birthdays, it's probably because I was asleep. Happy Birthday!

Out of all the generations of Pokemon games I've played, I've only played the first 3 gens, then just dropped off and switched to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I would like to give the games from Gens 4 and 5 ago (especially 5....one, because as Master told me sometime ago it was the last series of games that felt fluid and complete, and two, because some of my favorite Pokemon lines come from this particular generation!). In fact if my sister did not get me Shield or Violet, I wouldn't have bothered at all.

Wow! I'm surprised Colosseum is NOT on this list! :o

But yeah I think stopping after gen 4 is not bad. I haven't picked up a game past gen 3 until recently when my sister gave me the counterpart versions of her versions of gen 8 and gen 9 (which for me was Shield and Violet). As presents, yup. All for the sole purpose of trading. Out of the 2, I enjoyed Violet more despite it being even more obviously flawed than Shield was (which already had issues anyway).

I still need to give Mystery Dungeon Blue a go (and Rescue Team DX but that's for some other day). But everything else I've played. I'm kinda curious to hear your own thoughts on both Super Mystery Dungeon and Gale of Darkness someday, as I've played through both (didn't fully grab/purify every Pokemon in Gale of Darkness though....the sadness)

Hey, some of us like running and jumping around! :mefiant: And I'm still trying to figure out how something as humongous as Super Mario Odyssey fits into such a small file size!
Wow! I'm surprised Colosseum is NOT on this list! :o
That's because Colosseum was Chronic's game! And Gale Of Darkness is basically just a retooled/reskinned Colosseum in a roundabout way. So I've sorta played it!

(You can get the shadow Pokémon you missed by re-battling Mirror B!)

You don't want to hear my opinion on Super Mystery Dungeon. Awful. Just awful. You can only recruit a Pokémon once by doing their mission. You can't nickname them. The plot was...Kinda just a buncha upcycling from earlier Mystery Dungeons. Constantly crippled by being low leveled due to the trickle of XP throughout the story. There's points in the story where you jump to your 3rd evo (skipping second entirely?) just so you can make it through some dungeons. I had to heavily rely on wand items and team attacks just to pull through. I sold this game a while after getting through it.

As for Gale Of Darkness, I've had this one forEVER. But I got really stuck as a kid. They stole my snag arm and I had zero idea where to go, or how to get it back. I looked all over the place but found nothin' and eventually other things came up in life like school or part time work. It was almost a decade or something later when Chronic tore Colosseum apart, and in the midst of that, I got inspired to try Gale Of Darkness over, from the start. Which was fine with me, it'd been forever anyways, and I could probably do a lot better than kid me.

I picked Flareon again, too. Things have been going really well, I just need to find time to get back to it! :mryellow:

Haha, Colosseum was my game and my sister was definitely the Gale of Darkness girl when we were kids! But I've always wanted to try this game and I did eventually, just haven't quite finished it fully yet (as in finished the last round of the Orre Colosseum).

CosmicStrider wrote: Sun Jun 08, 2025 7:17 am (You can get the shadow Pokémon you missed by re-battling Mirror B!)
Definitely one of the better things about Gale of Darkness! Don't have to wait for ages to try and catch a shadow pokemon i somehow missed! Although that usually isn't a problem with me since, being a perfectionist I am, I always resetted everytime I failed to catch a Shadow Pokemon. You can imagine how long then it took me to actually finish Colosseum, with its six straight battles of Shadow Pokemon (oh and did I mention the last 2 battles were sudden jumps in levels so they catch me off guard)

You know what, this is not that bad at all. The nicknaming doesn't bother me too much cuz I wasn't one of those people who nickname their Pokemon (I know, shocker right?). The consistent struggle with opposing Pokemon is real though, even when I spent time training in other areas I would still have to use multiple seeds due to how annoyingly accurate the enemies are and how much I missed. I do like the story overall, but I see where you're coming from in that it's upcycled from other games (especially the second game, which I could say the entire second half of the story for SPMD mirrors in a sense)

:mryellow:
These days, Flareon would be tied with Vaporeon for my 2nd pick of Eeveelution in that game. Overall I'd say Flareon would hover around 4th-6th on my list along with Umbreon and Vaporeon.

The fact there’s no birthdays today and there’s over 6K members is insane.

But I've always wanted to try this game and I did eventually, just haven't quite finished it fully yet (as in finished the last round of the Orre Colosseum).
That's interesting! I wonder if siblings split these games often? If my memory serves right, which it almost never does...In Gale Of Darkness, I'm currently at Phenac City. It's been like a year or something so I dunno. (Sometimes games wind up on pause, don't get me started on Spirit Tracks. I left that sitting near the end when I could've easily steamrolled it...For about 5 something years. :boon: )
The Jonster wrote:Definitely one of the better things about Gale of Darkness!
Hey, I reset when I fail to catch a Shadow Mon too! Though who wouldn't? And believe me, I'm a little nervous about Gale's final battles... Though watching Chronic rip Colosseums up was always a blast. :D I was always cheering her on. I just hope it goes as smoothly for me when it's my turn to take on Gale's Colosseums.

Man, I can relate to the constant struggle. I picked Torchic and Chikorita, since they were my duo in MD Blue. (In Sky it was Riolu and Eevee. Two mons with bite was pretty helpful!) But yeah, what an uphill battle Super MD was...And I'll admit, I was surprised that you don't nickname your mons, that always seemed to be half of the fun of it. But sometimes it's hard to think of anything good. Or not silly. And having to think of 100+ nicknames...I really can't blame you. I just grab my 6 and go for it, so I don't need to think of very many nicknames. And it tends to be the same 6 mons, so even less thinking is required.

Flareon's a personal choice for me, actually. You see, I have 2 other siblings, Chronic and my bro. We had Yellow, Red and Blue, so we all split up the Eeveelutions. Chronic had Yellow and picked Jolteon, and my brother had Red and picked Vaporeon. And obviously I had Blue and chose Flareon. (Though my Flareon wasn't the gift Eevee, it was a secondary unnamable Eevee with no visible name that glitched into my PC. But hey, I got to keep an Eevee and have a Flareon too! Too bad I didn't realize my game's battery was leaking/melting.)

So in Gale, is Jolteon your top pick? Or Espeon maybe?

(Um...Is this getting a bit lengthy? Should we move this to another thread? :oops2: )

Some members choose to keep their birthdays private.
