Exactly! I knew it wasn’t rushed but I didn’t know it wasn’t delayed! TingsMaster wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 7:07 pm The game was delayed and Back to Origins was made as a consolation for the fact, I'd argue it wasn't rushed, priorities were less on plot and more on gameplay.

Re: Rayman Legends
Yeah if you look at the earlier pages in this thread, you'll probably come across the visceral reactions that came about when the delay was announced. While I don't think it's ever been confirmed, a lot of folks suspected the game was delayed because UbiSoft decided to scrap the Wii U exclusivity (as the game was initially announced as being) and go multiplatform instead. How true that is, I don't know, but it meant the game instead released end of August/beginning September 2013, three weeks before...GTA V.
Real smart move there
To be fair, we know there is cut content in Legends, things like the Dracula world for instance, but as far as the content that does exist being rushed...I'd be inclined to believe that the game getting delayed and getting extra time surely would have meant that they could've fine-tuned what they had?
At any rate, I know folks dislike Legends' lightweight story, but it certainly wasn't lacking in content and levels I think (even if I prefer Origins' flow personally), were very solidly made. I think they put more focus on the game as a multiplayer experience and adjusted their design philosophies accordingly, whereas Origins I find is more awkward in multiplayer.
EDIT: Oh it was delayed twice apparently, originally release date was for late 2012, then Q1 2013, before releasing end of Q3 2013. Second delay is when the game was announced as going multiplat. I may need to reread the development background because I completely forgot about the first delay.

Re: Rayman Legends
And Rayman 6 was in development before the game evidently revealed to get poor sales. Hang on, does this mean the reason we didn’t get a new 3D Rayman Game was because of GTA?Master wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 7:31 pm but it meant the game instead released end of August/beginning September 2013, three weeks before...GTA V.

Re: Rayman Legends
As much as I prefer to disagree with Greengoop, he is right about the story. There wasn't a large amount of story in Origins either. As Master said above, the games were more focused on gameplay than the story. (Gee why is this reminding me of nearly every Paper Mario game after Super Paper Mario).
Re: Rayman Legends
At least Origins had the nice Artbook (in the Collector's Edition), which could be considered as providing some background story.
Legends, though, what did we get? An optional empty steelbook case?

Re: Rayman Legends
What’s this got to do with whether the game is rushed or not?
Re: Rayman Legends
Nothing. But neither game felt rushed to me.

Re: Rayman Legends
Yeah, the guy who keeps ripping on it is just salty because he dislikes the game and wants excuses to hate on it.
Re: Rayman Legends
Haters gonna hate... I can't be bothered to go back and re-read all the messages. Don't take anything here personally...
Re: Rayman Legends
So Rayman Legends is now about 3-4 euros on Steam until the 20th of June, should I buy it?
Yeah for real, I've never played it (or Origins for that matter) and I'd already have bought it if it weren't for that awful Ubisoft launcher.
I'm basically too lazy to create a Ubisoft account and all that.
My question is: is it worth it?

I'm honestly not sure if it is worth the hassle of making a Ubisoft account, but for only €3~4 it's worth gaining the option anyway

Re: Rayman Legends
If I were you, I'd buy it if it's that cheap! Making a Ubisoft account and using Ubisoft Connect might be a real hassle, but for how low that price is and how great the game is, I'd say it's worth it. But even if you don't buy it now, it'll probably be on sale again in a week or two for that same price.Rsandee wrote: Mon Jun 16, 2025 1:06 pm So Rayman Legends is now about 3-4 euros on Steam until the 20th of June, should I buy it?

Re: Rayman Legends
A number of times Legends was completely free on Ubisoft Connect. Why would I need to have Steam as another intermediary?

Re: Rayman Legends
I don't shit on Rayman 1 for having no story, but Rayman Origins is different, because it's got a bit of a story, and a very confusing one. We all know that's because they rushed the end of the development, scrapping the plot they originally had in mind (rightly so IMO) but leaving a lot of loose pieces in the process (not rightly so). However, their failure to properly clean up the remains of that scrapped story made the narration confusing to a point it negatively affected the experience of a lot of players, and this despite the gameplay, the visuals and the music. The plot isn't the only part of the game that feels rushed, you can think of level names too.Greengoop wrote: Tue Jun 10, 2025 7:06 pm I disagree with all of those, especially the second one. Nobody shits on Rayman or Rayman Origins for having no story, so why do all these misanthropes give Rayman Legends shit?

Re: Rayman Legends
Has anyone heard this song before? It’s made by Dirk Lance and Jose Pasillas II of Incubus, along with DJs Slimkid3 and Nu-Mark, and it’s basically a song about Rayman Legends (presumably made to promote it) having several gameplay segments in the background at times. If you’re into funk and rap then it’s pretty good.

Well I've never heard this song before, but it looks like I've got to go update the "Rayman in popular culture" page! Thanks for making us aware of this Goop!

I was watching this video and the guy at 6:33 claims that Rayman Legends started life as a 3d game. Is there a source for this

Re: Rayman Legends
He’s getting his timeline mixed up it seems. A 3D sequel to Rayman Legends was in development at the time of the game’s release but it was scrapped due to poor launch sales of the game.goosmaw wrote: Sat Aug 16, 2025 1:00 am I was watching this video and the guy at 6:33 claims that Rayman Legends started life as a 3d game.
