Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Yeah those names come from the Palm OS version which has function names left in the exe. So it's the internal names.
Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Are these Electoons or Antitoons? RayWiki says they are Electoons, but I think their hairstyles are more like Antitoons.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Well, the game only calls them Toons, but I imagine they're considered Electoons because they're friendly and found imprisoned in cages?
Interestingly enough, the Rayman Junior games refer to Antitoons as just Toons.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
I guess toons sounds friendlier to young kids who don’t know about the electron pun.
Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Toons in R1GBC don't have hair.Hunchman801 wrote: Wed Jul 09, 2025 5:46 pm Well, the game only calls them Toons, but I imagine they're considered Electoons because they're friendly and found imprisoned in cages?

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
What do you mean? They obviously do in that image you sent.
Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
I mean that they are more likely to be Antitoons.Greengoop wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 6:53 am What do you mean? They obviously do in that image you sent.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Don't they all have ponytails?
Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
But Toons in this game don't have feet, while Antitoons have feet.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
But why would antitoons prank Rayman instead of attacking him? The joke is pretty clear here.

Besides, Electoons/Toons are seemingly depicted in a reddish color in this game, while the Antitoons' sprites are still blue and their ponytails became a sort of red antennae/strand of hair.
Also the GBC Electoons' sprites are seen with a sort of similar ponytail/wings when carrying exit signs (not confirmed if it's really them or just similar-looking fairies, but they have the exact same head as the Electoons freed from cages and it's the closest sprite to the cutscene depiction by far).
As for the feet (and hair), it could just be a limitation or animation simplication thing due to being on the GBC and as Electoons only have to be depicted flying, or disappearing to quickly convey the basic idea that the player freed them. Similarly, Mr Dark's hands and feet from the cutscenes aren't seen in gameplay either.Game Ze 2 wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 9:16 am But Toons in this game don't have feet, while Antitoons have feet.
To me, it's just an old handheld adaptation quirk like Mr Dark wearing a purple cloak, or Tings becoming red/blue fairy creatures.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
That makes sense, they certainly do not look like the Antitoons encountered as enemies in this very same game.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
I feel like this should have been obvious to most people enough that they are not antitoons. Unless these are very clever ones!Mortamon Saturn wrote: Thu Jul 10, 2025 6:59 pm Besides, Electoons/Toons are seemingly depicted in a reddish color in this game, while the Antitoons' sprites are still blue and their ponytails became a sort of red antennae/strand of hair.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
I've added details about the Chromatic release on the wiki, but I think the article needs a whole "Releases" section that would explain the differences between versions.
I'm sure Saturn wrote something about it on the forum already, maybe we could use it as a base for that section?

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Bumping this again as I've come across this Screenshots page from raymangbc.com:
Six of them were already on Rayman Fanpage (and Marx-Y shared them in 2021), but the other three appear to be new.
Well, maybe not completely new, as two of these are very similar to the ones we found in the manual:

The one in the cave, I don't think I've seen it before though.

Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
"use to be"?
Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Nice grammar, Ubi! [/sarcasm]
Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
Still beats "I could care less" and "could / should of".
Re: Rayman (Game Boy Color)
I found the source for them! They're in this press kit: https://archive.org/details/redump-id-119627Hunchman801 wrote: Mon Nov 10, 2025 9:42 am Bumping this again as I've come across this Screenshots page from raymangbc.com:
There are some new ones too, like one showing a Rayman 1 exit sign which I haven't seen before:
