Undertale and Deltarune General Discussion

Post by Elite Piranha »

So, I have heard new chapters of Deltarune will be released soon, so I wanted to create thread in advance.

DELTARUNE TODAY

I'm surprised we don't already have an Undertale topic, at any rate I'm going to be playing the later chapters today, just need to transfer my saves from the demo.

Finally got chapters 3 and 4 and so far, its a blast! Completely forgot how funny Deltarune actually was, and I laughed out loud like 20 times while replaying chapters 1 and 2, and Ant Tenna has to be one of my favorute characters ever!

I liked Tenna. but I don't know if they top Queen for me when it comes to Chapter villains. I think in general, Chapter 3 while fun and very much of the mould of Deltarune, kinda get's overshadowed simply by how much of a turn its ending and Chapter 4 in particular becomes.

Chapter 3 feels like the end of the sorta (and I don't want to use this term in a negative sense because I think it worked for the Deltarune story as a whole) formulaic episodic feel and the beginnings of where the threads of plot start to converge and things start to become more serialised, if that makes sense?

EDIT: Incidentally, I was reading someone's own thoughts on Chapters 3+4's release, and they made a point about how they didn't feel as impacted by these chapters compared to prior ones. And they mentioned that they felt inclined to rush through because they knew they'd get spoiled otherwise. I think there's a point to be made about how easy it is thanks to "the algorithm" to get unexpectedly spoiled even when you're making a conscious effort to avoid spoilers. Because they know you have an interest in the content, but lack the context to know that NOT RIGHT FUCKING NOW.

I managed to avoid spoilers for the most part, but I did blast through the chapters when they came out, and I enjoyed them, I think Ch4 is probably my favourite overall now...but I can't deny that I purposely did rush my way through somewhat just so I wouldn't run the risk of being spoiled. And considering some of the big moments in these chapters, I feel justified in rushing, even though I have missed some stuff and I'll have to replay to get those.

I played the first chapter back in 2018, I'm inclined to buy the game and have a blast with it but I first have to get more comfy with my research and know how much work I should do per week I guess.

* Hope you sort things out quickly! The game is really a blast, i’m not into bullet hells or RPGs (though i did play some) but i’m having lots of fun. And i hope you have fun playing it, too! Wonder if WP, Goop and Edge ever played UT and/or DR before…?
* Also, i started Chapter 3, and… is it me, or Lanino and Elnina are kind of Rayman 1-esque? I guess it’s the round eyes that do it for me, and, i’m kinda reaching here, but the sun-moon motif they have going on is a bit reminiscent of Betilla’s clothing pattern; technically speaking, her pattern is actually moons and stars, but sun is a star so still kind of counts? Please tell me i’m not the only one :fou2:
* Anyways, what is y’all favorite song in Deltarune? Mine is Pandora Palace.. It’s kind of hard to choose because there are so many bangers here :oops2:

I can't choose a single favorite since they're all just that good, but a couple of my favorites right now are The Roaring Knight's boss theme (God this fight took hours to beat...), Dark Sanctuary, The World Revolving, My Funky Town, and Pandora Palace as well. They're all so good that I haven't been able to get them out of my head for a while now, which is honestly kinda annoying :oops2:

Again, I've only played chapter 1 but Field of Hopes and Dreams is a classic imo. Love that song.

It seems I'm not the only one that has problems with the save files:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/1671210/ ... 363342405/

Apparently the files should be in C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\DELTARUNE, but I can't find nothing there. I have also searched in an Image Disk Backup from years ago and in an old laptop which I originally used to play the game, but I can't find those files :confus:.

Maybe I didn't transfer them from the old laptop and they got lost during a factory reset (if I did one, I can't remember). It seems I'll have to play the chapters 1 and 2 again or use somebody else's save files.

The webpage page looks great, I guess that's what would have happened if Spamton helped Tenna make one. I would loved to see those two collab in some form (my guess is that there is probably fan art of that, but I won't look for it until I finish chapter 4). I would like to see a merch section with that Ralsei plushie or an ad for a contest.

I got to the end of chapter 3, and I'm horrified to found out that the Shadow Mantle doesn't help me as much as I wanted to in the fight against the Roaring Knight, I don't know how I'm supposed to beat that boss, but by talking to Seam, it seems a Shadow Crystal can be obtained from that.

Undertale in 2025? That's definitely a plot twist

To be honest I've never played them... Is it worth it to give it a try?
The little I've heard about this game is that it has had an overly toxic community, although I have to say I don't know the reasons behind that statement

The community has chilled out since then id say. Then again you can simply just stay away from it!

I mean I'm just curious about the reason behind that, not saying I avoided those games for that.

It's sad, but some YouTubers have decided to not play it on stream or make videos about it, because of some people's reactions.

Jesus Christ! People are crazy!

Also, I personally watched SaltyDKdan play it (I think he was considered to be a VA for Rayman at one point… don’t quote me on that) and his reactions are FANTASTIC.

Yeah, backseating and spoiling is a big problem in the UTDR community. I’m watching Snapcubes VODS, and every single minute she reminds people to be okay with her missing things. I get it - Deltarune has a lot of nifty secrets in it, and people want her to see them, but also, this is her playthrough. She can play the game in any way she wants, and then look up these secrets later on if she wants to.
Another good example is Markiplier, though that was from the Undertale days. He was just playing the game, but people started telling him off that he is “not playing the right way” (aka true pacifist), to the point he had to restart the playthrough completely to play the game in the “right” way.
Also, the fandom itself is very big, and big fandoms usually are toxic and controversial. I don’t see a lot of toxicity right now, though, i do see some quarrels happening sometimes. Like that one scene in Chapter 4 that made everybody go nuts, so Toby had to change it :confus:
But, you can take my words with a pinch of salt, because i only interact with Tumblr when it comes to UTDR, and i had finished it pretty recently, so i don’t really know a lot of stuff yet when it comes to the fandom.

I took many tries, but I finally got the shadow crystal from the Roaring Knight in chapter 3. I think it was really cool, that when you get really close to winning, a special message shows up in the game over screen.

Currently at the beginning of chapter 4, after finding Tenna a new house.
