In the context of the fanfic, Ely pushed Barbara out of the way while they were fighting one of those dragons, it only managed to hit her face.. but now she’s permanently blind in one eye.

This Barbara is a reincarnation of the Barbara in the myths of the glade. Her father forced her to get married, and she was about to follow it until she saw Rayman fight outside. Something she always wanted to do, so she tries to escape but is trapped by her father. Cue the axe, she breaks out again to go find Rayman so he can help her liberate her sister from her own marriage. The king ends up dying, and yet Barbara can’t find seem to forgive herself for how her sister had to hide her location… and got a huge burn mark on her face as a punishment. Also they’re both wingless fairies.
