Perhaps, Maybe it could Rayman has perish by an unknown entity and has taken over The Glade also Polokus is tarp in a deep sleep by the entity, The Glade slowing starts become a wasteland by the entity absorbing all life from The Glade, Now Ly must be the new hero of The Glade also keeping the spirt of her old friend alive.
Could be more that AU Polokus from in his dreams reaches Rayman and calls to help Ly as she isn't strong enough to defeat the entity alone, It would be like a duo adventure, guess like Rayman 3 but little less comedic and some little Rayman 2 I guess

I think I quite like first that use's limited colours which make's it more stylized, Reminds of the promotional art for Batman: Arkham City
