The plague was (is, in fact) caused by a bacterium, not a virus, and certainly not a coronavirus.

A bacterium is a living organism that can infect a host and cause a disease. A virus is a non-living particle that basically consists of rogue strands of RNA, that somehow move on their own without it technically being an organism because organisms are essentially beings that are alive. On a practical note: you can kill bacteria with 60% alcoholic solutions, but you are unable to do so with viruses because like I stated before, they were never alive to begin with.
