I often hear of DuckDuckGo being good. Not too sure as to why I'm not using it.

And what about the browser? Chrome is definitely a mess...

Maybe because Google is shoved down your throat as the default everywhere? :oops2: (or Bing in Edge I guess.) Go ahead, make the switch, you won't regret it! :bad:

The only true alternative to Chrome now is Firefox, because literally every other mainstream browser is based on Chrome. (Edge, Opera, Vivaldi, etc.) There are also forks of Firefox like Pale Moon, etc. (not sure what the status is of those)

Then you can be like me and use something based on webkitgtk, but then you get stuck with random issues quite often

Hey, I actually like Google spying on me and stealing all my information ok! I will stick with it and let them find out everything about me and sell it, just like Microsoft is doing!

jk  I think I will give it a try soon. I was already using Brave as my browser for some time, not sure if there are any other ones I could use instead of this either that would be better. I know not much about me is private at this stage anyway given the username I joined here with and the fact I shared pictures before, but I still don't want these people doing this just because they can get away with it. :P

For me it's not "privacy" per se, it's the way the algorithms get inside your head, and figure out what you want before you even realize you want it. It's creepy. :mefiant:

Yeah that makes sense. They attempt to show you what you want to see. The weirdest stuff to me is when you're talking about something, and then later your phone advertises this thing to you. You get this conspiracy theory territory like are they listening to me?

That's why I use LineageOS with no Google apps module (except Gboard, which I have to turn on when I use my stupid bank's app to approve card purchases online :mefiant:)

That stuff is what annoys me the most about custom ROMs. I don't understand why they do this when you literally have root access on Linux and Windows, yet you can still use your bank no problem. I have an iPhone now but I wouldn't be surprised if that's just a case of being stuck with that stuff and there being no workaround.

Thankfully the app only warns about the phone being rooted, it doesn't refuse to work. It only refuses to work when it doesn't recognize the on-screen keyboard app, because it could be a "security violation". So it thinks Gboard (which sends data to Google) is more secure than AOSP Keyboard (which doesn't) :boon:

Oh yeah that can happen even on the iPhone if you use certain keyboards. It actually doesn't allow the custom ones in some cases at all. The Google one being more secure sounds ridiculous.

When I had custom ROMs, my bank apps kept having issues, back on my Note 9. The time I was in a shop in Sweden and I forgot my wallet, I tried to see if I could use Google Pay, but it just outright refused because of being rooted and I couldn't get it working.

Oh yeah, I think Google Pay is strict about that. But if you use MagiskSU I think you can hide the rooting from apps that don't like it. (I use Magisk but I've never had to use that functionality so I'm not sure how well it works :oops2:)

Haha, it's true that the mods there were probably concerned by the throngs of users moving to RPC, but knowing Matyuv, I'm sure he must have been a bit pushy when advertising this place.

I wonder why they were concerned. Surely it just meant less work for them if RZ was abandoned?

I realize, that most official game forums will have that problem. They are all way too wound up, so they would have a leak. Plus Raymanzone looked ugly in comparison. Your forum was flashy in comparison! It's too bad that we don't have the old board style. I need to look at a wayback machine or something to reminisce. Also, I should also add that, I joined the Raymanzone forums because I read the booklet of Rayman 2, and I was like, talking to strangers on the internet? Sign me up!

You mean like here? https://raymanpc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7631

I think the old RZ had its charm though, I like the dark blue aesthetic. Come to think of it, both RZ and PC were doing "dark mode" before it was trendy. That's probably at the root of why I prefer Dark Mode on everything now!

Yes, thank you, I don't have to go searching myself. Ah, it's good to see that style again. At the very least, I did enjoy the dark modes for sure.

I think what most people took issue with is the way it was moderated. The admins were inactive and most moderators had no idea what they were doing. RPC was a bit messy at first, but somehow it still worked better for people than RZ at the time!

I was already active on another French forum before that, but evevyone there moved over to RaymanZone when it opened.

I liked the old RZ too, though all of that disappeared when it moved over to the main Ubi forums.
