What is/was your favorite subject in school?

I like WW1/WW2 a lot probably my second favourite period in history, only topped by the Celtic British Isles.

Out of the standard curriculum, it changed depending on the year, though I was persistently fond of English, PE and biology. I also enjoyed and got high marks in religion classes, though I wouldn't really label them favourites because lol.

Oh dear, this didn't age well... I found out after this that I always got 100% in English and Religion that year because the teacher who taught those classes was... "fond" of certain students

It was a Catholic school. I only went there for three years though. Uniforms and everything, extremely strict dress code, mandatory Mass attendance too. And they did some pretty unethical things, like give kids free elective credits and time off school to go and picket abortion clinics (and knowingly housed predatory teachers/Fathers, because it's Catholic, duh)

It's weird to think that I'm turning 30 this year, and once upon a time, on RPC here, I was talking about my experiences there as they were happening.

...Even if I was always tasked with washing the dishes. My group didn't trust me with a knife. And anything that involved actually cooking... Still, it was a good class, it taught me a bunch. Like that the oven isn't some combustible monster. Back then I didn't know how to properly use an oven, so I just...Didn't. You see, my house had a gas stove/oven. I was always terrified it would burst into flames or I'd forget about it until something caught fire.

(Believe me, I was HYPED when I baked my first pizza in our oven and nothing exploded. That pizza was AMAZING too! )

But it was probably a good thing I was afraid of two very dangerous things as a child. And turns out I'm pretty good with a knife. I still don't like candles though...Some look way too easy to accidently knock over. As for the oven, I really just didn't know how to use it or what I was doing so I steered clear of it.)

There's a certain sense of purpose there for sure! Just being a part of the magic, even if it isn't a very creative part, can be exciting.

I'd always pictured water surging out like it's deepwater horizon or something, gushing, flooding the whole place and destroying everything in its path. I was really afraid of fire too though... stoves, candles... it's just a bit yikes. I love my gas stove now though, I'd hate to have to switch to electric when I move

I'm pretty good with a knife too... though of course, only as recently as a year ago, I got a new Japanese knife and sliced off a tiny bit of the tip of my ring finger when chopping yams My first and only real injury.

I wasn't sure if tossing a meme I saw on reddit as a reaction to something like this was a good idea, but that was my honest reaction. I'd heard of students doing some pretty awful stuff in my high school. Still, I can't stress this enough, I am deeply sorry something like this happened. I'd be horrified if any of my teachers turned out to be creeps or worse. Because you kinda trust these people, you know? Even on a tiny level, to teach you and all...So to learn something horrible about them later mars memories. Seriously, even if I can be a bit joke-y at times, I am so, so sorry something like this happened.

Ah, Chronic loves to bake cookies from time to time too! She even made some when I wrapped up my first job! Which was a 10 night (8, I got sick for 2 days) haunt gig. Was nice to finish a small job and come home to cookies.

Ah, well as for the whole knife thing...It could've been bullying somewhat. I had a bad reputation throughout school because I fought (purely fisticuffs) a lot in middle and high school (in HS it was almost all the time) and at that point my schizoaffective disorder (Which I inherited from my deadbeat-"dad". Far as I know out of my 2 siblings, I'm the unlucky one who wound up with that disorder. My siblings and I were raised entirely by our grandparents.) was in full swing due to high school stress. I'm talking about full blown hallucinations that I didn't think twice about, talking to people/"ghosts" like they were really there, just in general I was the isolated weird kid. Sat alone at lunch all the time...I was basically a loner. But I was fine with being alone because I wasn't "alone". If you catch my drift.

The other half of it was probably because I went "But I'm good with a knife!"...Yeah, that probably didn't help.

Ah, the flooding toilet fear. Totally reasonable if you ask me, nothing irrational about a backed-up toilet, it's a nightmare for everyone. The water rises and so does your panic. And yeah, it's a total "Oh crap!" *pun intended* moment.

Oof, sorry to hear about your knife slip. I've heard Japanese knives are REALLY sharp. Something about folding steel or something. Reminds me of the time I didn't realize just how sharp one of our swords were. Because the elders of the house have a love for the orient, We have a ton of swords in our house, any would-be robbers would have a BIG problem, we are armed with blades to THE TEETH. But yeah, anyways, sliced open my palm a tiny bit on this sick dragon handle sword.

Euuugh, that's what "fond' meant?? So sorry about that, I honestly thought that phrase sounded more innocent than it actually was (this was before I looked at Cosmic's reaction). I wanted to gag reading that last part, it's disturbing to know that there are even people like that out there in the church.

That must have been SO satisfying! This is something I want to try someday too! Definitely need to improve my cooking skill first though.

I currently also go to a catholic school, I guess our school system is less harsh on religion because they literally don’t care if you’re any other religion?? I’m not entirely sure, but I do know we were taught about other religions in elementary.
That said I will never step into my home towns crunch again.

Anyways, I enjoy history a lot.

I echo this sentiment, I know maths isn't the most enjoyable subject but it rubs me the wrong way that there's this incessant almost cultural revulsion to it.

It's one of the most vital skills we need.
