Wait a sec, I spend a lot of my free time maintaining "retro" software. Maybe I should start contributing stuff to phpBB, considering how retro forums are becoming.

That's great to hear, even though it's obviously not sustainable in the long run and I'm glad that you're about to enjoy a more relaxed rythm.Tobbe wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:28 am Fortunately, I did. Our leadership is very fair in that way, thankfully. I've heard plenty of horror stories from other hospitals in the country about people being "encouraged" to work unpaid overtime and extra shifts on a large scale.
PHP isn't that bad, maybe just a bit messy in terms of standardization. I often think I should contribute too, but obviously I just don't have the time for it.PluMGMK wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 10:29 am Wait a sec, I spend a lot of my free time maintaining "retro" software. Re: The reunion thread
I don't even know if PHP tried to come up with something new, they just borrowed from everywhere.
Re: The reunion thread
Good to hear from all of you once again! The past year has been fine for me, but I now realise I focused way too much on my new job as an English & music teacher at a troubled youth facility, where I've got over 50 girls aged about 14 to 19, closed in isolation, all coming from pretty depressing environments (alcohol problems, drugs, prostitution, mental problems and so on). It's a mixed bag, because on one hand I really enjoy working with them (I've got the advantage of, well, being a young guy, in opposition to all the old nuns working there, so we get along well), but all the dark stuff that happens behind the scenes, like all the self-harm and suicide attempts (one of them stole the keys to the window and jumped from the 2nd floor and miraculously survived), it kind of gets to you after a while, so I've been having some anxiety problems for the past few months.
I did try to focus on myself more again once summer vacation started, so I played a stadium gig in Italy with Rockin'1000 and also joined a pirate metal band (check out my fit, I love it!) and played a few great gigs on a tour around Poland, had a lot of fun and will probably be back into shape soon, though! Just need to get the bad stuff out of my system, and my life is really great otherwise, I just need to remind myself of that more. I've got a lot of exciting projects coming up, just gotta get in the mood and find that rhythm again.

This is some pretty dark stuff, but great job on dedicating so much of your time for people who clearly need it.Rulez wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:01 am Good to hear from all of you once again! Cool costume! Do you have any songs to share?Rulez wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:01 am I did try to focus on myself more again once summer vacation started, so I played a stadium gig in Italy with Rockin'1000 and also joined a pirate metal band (check out my fit, I love it!) and played a few great gigs on a tour around Poland, had a lot of fun and will probably be back into shape soon, though! Thank you for the appreciation, yeah! It does feel like I'm doing something important. Seeing those poor girls' eyes light up when they learn how to play their first drumbeat or bassline is difficult to describe, as cheesy as it sounds, it's really magical and gets to me. It's touching, because you realise how privileged you are to get to do what you want, even if you have your own issues as well, and how much it means to them to finally get a bit of positive attention, and not just disregard. Agh, I'm tearing up right now, well, you get it!Hunchman801 wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:30 amThis is some pretty dark stuff, but great job on dedicating so much of your time for people who clearly need it.
Sure, though they're from way before I joined the band! Here's a fun one, "O kurwa Kraken" which obviously translates to "Oh fuck, the Kraken!"

I got myself a new job because my last one fucking fired a bunch of us for no good reason. So now I'm making slightly more dosh after being tossed out.

Congrats to Tobbe on the new house, and Serza on the better job!
That does indeed sound pretty dark, but I share Humch's commendation, that's some mighty noble work you've been doing RulezRulez wrote: Sat Aug 30, 2025 11:38 am Thank you for the appreciation, yeah! It's been far too long since I set foot in Scotland but trying to find a job in Scotland is still extremely tricky when you're a "game" developer whose expert language is now Typescript.
