Well, the microphone in the Snoring Tree is what made the Livid Dead get annoyed and invade the surface, and it is indeed true that the microphone is never removed, so the story is indeed not resolved
To be fair, since the Magician never did his big reveal in the final game, the heroes are still completely unaware that the mic is even there.

There is a side story in the game about how the bubble dreamer is losing his memory and having nightmares, which lead to the creation of the darktoons. The darktoons are also shown to reside in the land of the livid dead, as shown in the intro, where they come out of the snoring tree to wreak havoc on the glade of dreams because of Rayman's snoring. This is the main reason for the game's events, and it doesn't get resolved.
It seems like the main point of the game is to free all the Electoons so that they can soothe Polokus and he can stop having nightmares. Sure, that means no more nightmares come, but that begs the question of what happened to the existing ones? They call Big Mama the “Mamma of All Nightmares” in Legends, so maybe she had something to do with it and freeing her put an end to things? I’d have to think about it more to put it all together.

I recently re-beat the land of the livid dead. After I beat the boss, I found it odd how the game just ended very anticlimactically. You would expect a cutscene showing how saving the nymph would affect the world, maybe she does something about the darktoons, it's just there's no narrative reason for going to the land of the living dead

If the game feels rushed, it's because it was. The main reason for all those inconsistencies is essentially that the team had to wrap up the game by a certain deadline and this resulted in a lot of oversights.
To this day, I still hope that Ubisoft or a team of fans make a "definitive edition" of Rayman Origins that incorporates most - if not all - of the scrapped plot and content. I know it's kind of unlikely to happen, but a fan can dream, right?
I don't really like the scrapped script to be honest, and I'm kinda happy that it got scrapped, the only problem being that it got scrapped in a way that only adds more confusion to the final product because of the rush to publish the game...

I agree, I don't like it either. Back when it was released I thought it was a pity, but nowadays I think they definitely made the right choice scrapping it. I'm glad that for Legends they either decided from the get-go to go lighter on the plot, or scrapped whatever plot they had sooner and more thoroughly because the result is a game that feels much more focused on fun, rather than hints at a confusing, underlying plot.

Well, we’re just going to have to agree to disagree on that one.
I'm with Droolie on this one. Of course I like a good story, but I prefer no story over a bad one. I just wish they'd properly removed the leftovers of the scrapped plot from Origins instead of leaving so much confusing stuff behind.
But hey, what does it matter what we think. The games are the way they are, now we can only hope for the next ones not to repeat the same mistakes!
Yes you're right, it's better to leave the game in an endless loop than have a scrapped over story that leaves things in confusion. One thing Legends did better than Origins!
Im excited to announce that I'm making a website for a fake speed run event for this game!
Thing is, I don't think l'll be able to share it cuz it'll be in french.. lol! But I do have my vision and I do plan on making it very very pretty! Just need some sprites if anyone has those!
Had a random thought that maybe some sea citizens look like the water Nyphms from adventure and had to edit an Annetta sprite to show my concept. What do yall think?
