Cool (or should I say 'sunny'?) article. Yes, solar is the ultimate power if we can find effective way of harnessing, storing and transporting it world-wide. You know what else carries enormous power? Lightning. And coincidentally, where there is no sun there are often storms and lightnings. But harnessing them is even harder.

At another point it talks about "electrons falling on your roof" which obviously there aren't, or we'd all already be toast.

Maybe he meant "electoons".

Do you get the roof repaired frequently though? My mum didn’t think it was an issue until the solar panels, and lucky that because the tiles would’ve literally started sliding off this winter otherwise.

Also I missed dr_st's message earlier. Indeed, there is always lightning somewhere on the planet at any given moment, isn't there? Some of it's even powerful enough to generate gamma ray flashes, but I can't see it ever being harnessed reliably. At least sunlight is fairly steady once you have access to some!

Honestly, it's a shame that the US doesn't really care enough about going green. I never see enough (or in many cases, any at all) recycling bins in places I go to.

That's great! If everyone follows this logic to a T, within approximately 100 years there will be no mankind, and the world will recover in 10, 20 thousand years, tops.

As dr_st says, that's obviously not going to happen for about four billion years. But it is entirely possible that we humans will deploy our own mini-suns and blow up all the major cities, which will result in much the same outcome for almost all earthly life. Such a waste…
