It’s been a month and a half and there’s still no sign of a translation. Are French-speakers really that scarce around here these days?

What is it to be translated?

Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
I'm more wanting it to be translated to see if the actual article refers to this Jimmy crap in Hereitscool or we can rest that as not substantial fact.
If the article doesn't mention it, I'm going to say it's safe to say it was just something the Jaguar magazine made up so they could have a blurb to go with the screenshots.
I'm not even sure why you brought up Gizmondo, since even if there was some Rayman port in development at some point, it was never planned in the 90s with the original Rayman team as Gizmondo was released 2004/05.

I'm pretty sure all of this is rumor. Unless you hear straight from some horse's mouth, take things you read online with a grain of salt. If there were some long lost Virtual Boy game in development, you can be sure there'd be some Nintendo freaks on it. Everything about the Virtual Boy's short run is pretty much known now.Extremist wrote:I've read online that instaed of the Atari Jaguar, PC, PSX, and Sega Saturn, Rayman was going to be ported to a whole lot more console at the time. They are the Gizmondo(Unheard console was a failure), the Sega 32X(add-on to Sega Genesis/Master System), the Virtual Boy(Nintendo's fist failure), and the SNES. So oringinally, we were going to have 8 ports of Rayman 1. Then up until now we were going to have 18 ports of Rayman instead of 14.

I can tell you now that it is mentioned as the original story in this article.syntheticgerbil wrote:I'm more wanting it to be translated to see if the actual article refers to this Jimmy crap in Hereitscool or we can rest that as not substantial fact.
I have the article half-translated, but due to my non-Frenchyness I am loathe to continue... if no French member appears to be doing anything though I might do the rest of it, but...
Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
I also ask the same question "Does any French can be really kind for all of us to translate the PixNLove pages?": I would love to read the article.

I translated this part already:syntheticgerbil wrote:I'm more wanting it to be translated to see if the actual article refers to this Jimmy crap in Hereitscool or we can rest that as not substantial fact.
And as I said:Pix'n Love n°13 wrote:In the very first scenario, Rayman belonged to a kid passionate about computers, Little Jimmy Cliff. He was an entity which lived in his computer, a kind of ‘virtual’ companion. But, very quickly, we have decided to simplify the plot.

Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
Wow, I just found this, really nice, it's also neat to hear thatthere are plans for a 3D game, I'm for 2D and such, I just don't like 3D stuff that much as you may noticed already, but that would be relief after the whole Rabbids misery back from 2005. A little bit is allready there by origins.
So please, give us the scan and the translationm we are sitting on needles.

Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
Guess I missed your post on the translation, Hunchman, thank you for doing so. I guess I stand corrected on the Jimmy back story stuff. I am glad it was scrapped either way. It sounds like something straight out of an 80s cartoon.

Who ever knew that Rayman was originally going to be released on the SNES?! Seriously, this is huge!
(Unless it's fake, which I doubt.)
"Long before the Jaguar and PlayStation versions, Michel Ancel and his team were working on Rayman for the SNES. Even if it was in advanced development, the game was stopped in favor of the CD support. As exclusives, here are a few pictures from this aborted version."RayFan9876 wrote:Can someone translate that?
Oh, and I love the beta Skops.

Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
Looks like Rib uncovered some pretty cool images from the SNES cancelled prototype which had been present in their book "Video Games You Will Never Play" since 2016 and posted them on RayWiki:

There's also more details about the plot:

Nice find, thanks for documenting it!The character of Rayman was revealed to have been developed by Jimmy's uncle Professor Hendrix, and in the midst of a storm, lightning struck Jimmy's house, transforming him into Rayman through the AC power socket, which also gave him his signature circle on his clothing.

It's nice to see Jimmy again! I'll admit that I've seen these pictures before, possibly from an account of Ancel's?...I really can't remember now.
I also brought The History of Rayman just to learn more about the prototype and see all the neat concept art. Very cool stuff! It's great that Rib managed to find such high-quality versions of the pictures and helped to fill in some more details, though!

Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
Yo this is a huge find! Do you think we'll have some demos some day?
Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
Yeah this was thanks to Raychan, Chefpig340 and Mace2.0 who discovered these when they got a digital version of the book through the Unseen64 patreon. Rib then extracted the images from the PDF. We were a bit unsure how much of it to publish publicly though due to previous history with the people behind the book. But at least the images should be preserved on the wiki.Hunchman801 wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:14 am Looks like Rib uncovered some pretty cool images from the SNES cancelled prototype which had been present in their book "Video Games You Will Never Play" since 2016 and posted them on RayWiki.
Some of these have been seen before, although in worse quality, but the one with the small skops character appears to be new. We also believe these are mockups, which honestly makes me wonder if the SNES build ever got that far into development? Hopefully Frédéric Houde dumps the remaining 2 prototypes some day.
There's more info on the plot in the L'Histoire de Rayman book. In fact as I've been reading the book recently I've been noticing just how much info it has that's missing on the wiki. If I had the time I would love to document it all, with proper page references, but I'm not sure I do. Maybe some of the stuff though, but would be great if some other people could help tooHunchman801 wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 9:14 am There's also more details about the plot:The character of Rayman was revealed to have been developed by Jimmy's uncle Professor Hendrix, and in the midst of a storm, lightning struck Jimmy's house, transforming him into Rayman through the AC power socket, which also gave him his signature circle on his clothing.

Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
Thanks to everyone involved then! As for what to publish on the wiki, I believe it's fine to paraphrase the content of the book, using reference tags to ensure the authors are properly cited (and that the content is properly sourced, of course).RayCarrot wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 5:42 pm Yeah this was thanks to Raychan, Chefpig340 and Mace2.0 who discovered these when they got a digital version of the book through the Unseen64 patreon. I have the book so I'll try to at least make sure that the article is complete with regard to what we know of the plot, but with all the work I still have on my plate when it comes to documenting localizations and translating articles, I won't have time to document the whole book either. Anyone willing to help?RayCarrot wrote: Thu Sep 04, 2025 5:42 pm There's more info on the plot in the L'Histoire de Rayman book. Re: Unseen images of Rayman SNES version
Awesome! If it can help, a few years ago I translated the design bible scans that are included in the book. If I remember correctly, they were a bit hard to read in the book itself: https://raymanpc.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... 9#p1435449Hunchman801 wrote: Fri Sep 05, 2025 8:30 amI have the book so I'll try to at least make sure that the article is complete with regard to what we know of the plot

Thanks a lot Droolie, I created a new section here and shamelessly reused your translations (with a few adjustments). Let me know what you guys think, and don't hesitate to fix any errors or omissions.
