Surprise! Out of all things, we're getting a special physical release of Rayman GBC (for Chromatic and Game Boy Color) by ModRetro, and apparently it even got a brand new soundtrack!

It has a cartridge, box, chromatic charm of Rayman in all of his 8-bit glory, and a manual, said manual can also be downloaded from the page!

Celebrate 30 years of Rayman with a re-release of the handheld console version of the very first game, featuring over 30 colorful levels, classic platforming, and a brand-new soundtrack.

Finally, Rayman 1 GBC will no longer be tied to R2 remixes!
Hopefully someone can find and get us the new songs soon; sounds like RayTunes has some more content to add now...

I ordered this instantly when I seen it. I would have probably liked the Keychain as well but I already placed my order without it. Definitely interested to see what this is like.

Honestly, it's too pricey for what this is, 50€ for what's not even an authentic 2000 GBC cartridge and just a few cheap goodies is a big no-no to me...
(Especially when I got a free second GBC copy when ordering Rayman 3 GBA for like 5€ a few years ago thanks to a happy little mistake! )

Never thought I'd ever say this... but from listening to this new soundtrack in the video showcases, it sounds miles WORSE than the original, absolutely dull and lifeless!
And if there's no soundtrack toggle, this is not a good move to preserve the original game... With this change, they didn't even took the opportunity to do other enhancements like a save system or a more accessible Ubi Key feature...

Do what you will, but personally, even as an absolute lover of Rayman GBC... not ordering this. Ever.

Regardless, I'm very happy to see something that's not just Rayman Legends AGAIN for the 206 489th time, so this means anything for Rayman's future now, no more constant UbiArt recycling like in the past 14 years!...

If only this meant an actual good soundtrack that sounds like Rayman 1!... Welp, guess even the R2 ear-melting 8-bit tunes will always remain better than this bland slop

The new music does sound pretty generic, and the song from the second video on the ModRetro page feels more like boss music than level music, but I still think it's alright. Though I agree that a soundtrack toggle should be there; the song that plays in the first video just reeks of copy-and-paste royalty-free 8-bit music.

I was surprised to see I get the keychain with mine, I didn't even pay attention to this. I just wanted to order it, thinking it will be fun to have. If anything, it will even be nice to have the box with the Rayman 2 art.

The keychain is cute, yeah. As for the music, I think they might not have been able to use the original soundtrack because of copyright issues? I know music is notoriously complicated in that regard. It's hard for me to judge the new soundtrack from just a couple short videos, but it's true that it doesn't sound particularly great. I'd like to see a track-by-track comparison between the two, that would be interesting.

I have no honest frame of reference, since I haven't heard the original soundtrack for myself. I did happen to get one coming for the Gameboy earlier in the week off eBay, that I'm waiting for.

I decided it was finally time for me to get some Rayman gameboy games in my life.

I'm definitely very much into music, and particularly chiptune. I will judge it for myself when I try it out. I'll be honest if I think it sounds bad at that point. I'm surprised though if it actually is bad, given all the modern tools they could compose the songs with nowadays. They have no excuses if it's bad.

You see, I understand this, as well as why one particular paragraph from my second post was erased when I was echoing concerns from fans on social networks after stumbling on RayCarrot's posts!...
But what I specifically don't get is why a certain line from my second post (which wasn't even part of the same paragraph) was taken down altogether (and which prompted me to edit both of my comments to that highly trollish tone, because I don't like seeing my highly controversial Rayman purchasing intents being silenced )...

What is political in stating that I'm not interested in buying a Rayman game as of now, for reasons including pricing or a questionable soundtrack change as pointed out in said post, and that I'm perfectly OK with other people buying it ("Do what you will")?
Because if this is political, then hundreds of things we said about Ubisoft or Rayman products in the past whether on the French and English forums were even more worth removing or being moved to such a topic. You know... like in the days when we expressed our extremely positive feedback about the official Rayman t-shirts or a certain Apple Arcade exclusivity, just to name a few.


Anyway... I'm done, I'm not interested in discussing any of this topic anymore, I shouldn't even have brought up this rerelease.

That was removed because it seemed relevant to the previous paragraph, however, it could have just been restored had you asked (my PMs are open), rather than assume the intentions are to censor you and edit in a passive aggressive paragraph subsequently. If you want line restored, that's fine. The other stuff that was removed would be off topic in this thread, and it would have to go in the political thread that Hunch has linked.
