SpeedRay 2025 - Anniversary edition supported by Ubisoft!

Post by Hunchman801 »

Hi everyone! :partyhat:

In order to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the series, we are happy to host a special edition of SpeedRay, our yearly speedrunning contest. This year's edition will be themed after the original Rayman game, and, for the first time, supported by Ubisoft, who are just as excited as us to mark the occasion.

This time, the goal will be to beat Moskito with at least 20 cages. The run will have to follow the rules of the 100% category (notably, no memory card manipulation allowed), but you may choose any version of the game. Timing starts on first movement, and ends upon triggering the cutscene of Moskito's defeat.

As for prizes, there is exclusive merchandise to win, as well as Rayman games, physical and dematerialized:
  • First place: Globox Youtooz plushie
  • Second place: Rayman Origins collector's edition for Xbox 360
  • Third place and below: keys for Rayman games on the Ubisoft Store (within the limits of available stock)
  • And 500 Tings for every participant!
How to participate

All you have to do is record your playthrough of the level and send it to us by PM. Once the contest is over, you will be allowed to post it publicly if you like, but it should be kept private before that so as to make it more exciting by not revealing who is in the lead before the end. You may still stream attempts and discuss strategies.

Note that you may not submit older runs. The contest will run from September 29 to October 29, and all runs must be recorded and submitted during this period. Submissions are not final, and you are more than welcome to keep posting better runs: we will only consider your best time.

Any questions?

Just post them here! And may the fastest win. :proud:

~
Special thanks to Ubisoft for the prizes, Clairiphi for the cover art and Elite Piranha for the graphic design.

Yo this is awesome! I’m not good at speed running, so I won’t participate. But I wish luck to everyone else!

This is certainly pretty exciting, especially with Ubisoft's support for the prizes! Especially with a such a cute and adorable Globox plushie!

Yeah, we seized the opportunity to postpone it and make it an anniversary edition, hence the announcement in September. Sorry for everyone who expected in March!

Hmm… can I still try even if I haven’t played Rayman 1 before?

Yeah it's fine, just make sure you're recording both the screen and the buttons. ;)

I have two questions: is playing the original Rayman game accepted, even online? I mean, for example, I'm playing Rayman Advance on Arcade Spot, is it also accepted if I'm not playing on the original console (currently Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS)? Also, the Rayman Origins collector's edition is one of the prizes. For which platform?

The emulator rules on speedrun.com are a bit strict, but I'm not sure if Arcade Spot would qualify. It shouldn't be a problem what console you're playing on though.

As for the collector's edition... good question, I will check with Ubisoft and get back to you!

And the answer is Xbox 360, I have updated the first post accordingly.

I honestly want the second place reward more than the first place one.

This seems so cool!

I'm gonna try tackle the DSi version!

(Edit: I linked a test run on DSi already. I didn't notice we should keep it secret for now, so my bad!)

Oh yeah, I actually missed this part myself and I had added an embed for the video:

I don't think it done any harm anyway, since it was just a test run and not a submission. Best of luck in the contest anyway. :D
