I think I'm in the same boat, while I doubt I'd get an iPhone anytime soon. At the same time I can't deny the fact that Android's increasing amount of restrictions is making it a far less lucrative platform to prefer. If it weren't for the fact that Android manufacturers are starting to get more competitive when it comes to software support, I'd probably give an iPhone a genuine look.

Come to think of it, even I thought of getting an iPhone at some point, when like ^^ I had previously been sure I never ever would. But for now I'll stick with my Gapps-free LineageOS! :hap:

I'm not sure how much the "fair-trade" supply chain guarantees on the FairPhone actually mean, but their commitment to repairability and interoperability is in itself laudable in this day and age. Either way, hopefully I won't need to buy a new one any time soon!

One of my friends got another LG phone like he has just to put LineageOS onto it. I don't think they quite support my Sony Xperia version though.

Bit tangential, but if anyone's interested in phone history, this might be an interesting watch:

Not the most deep on the technical detail mind, but still interesting

Even just the thumbnail makes me think of how I had a Nokia 5110 as my first phone. Playing Snake, sending SMS that constructed images out of special characters. :nostalgic:

I have the IMO 4G Dash Mini dumbphone that I got a couple of months ago, I don't really use it that much, but I'm learning how to.

I think headphones were the same. Remember it was all about having them tiny in ear ones (before we had AirPods), and people were too embarrassed to go out wearing big overhead headphones. Then it went full circle and everyone was wearing them again.

This never bothered me, though I have since stuck to earbuds for my reasoning being that every time I have been given headphones I seem to end up destroying them at some point. I had one particular instance where I tossed a pair of blue headphones onto a carseat and it snapped in two. Earbuds have always lasted much longer for me than headphones did.

OHHHH I feel you here. The headphones' arc or one of the handles break 3-4 months after buying them, it rarely happens 5+ months after buying. Though both of the ears work, they cannot be usable because of that - it feels impissible to wear them even if you fixed them

I currently use a set of Beyerdynamic DT-990 Pro when I'm at my computer. I modified them by cutting off the cable that looked like a 90s telephone cord, and instead put a 3.5mm jack on them. Now I can easily just remove the cable from them if I want to. Even if something on these breaks, I'll be able to 3D print the part for it since they're a popular well known pair. I wanted something good for mixing since I make music. Mostly chiptune, but still. :P

I'm intrigued, why would chiptune be unexpected?

I mean bands like Anamanaguchi have existed for over two decades now. I've been listening to that kinda music since the late 00s.

Steo has made some really good chiptune tracks, he's even made something for me that I needed for a project.

It took me some time because I was a bit lazy to transfer all my data and log in everywhere again, but I finally switched from my old iPhone 12 to a brand new Pixel 10. The choice was easy, that's the only model my workplace offers and I'll glady take a free phone when offered one.

The change was long due, as my old battery wouldn't even last for a day. I'm pretty happy about the new phone so far! I sometimes feel that the screen might be a little bit less responsive, but it's a larger one and I may simply need time to get used to it.

There was a time when I would have congratulated you on escaping Apple's walled garden, but now Google are trying to turn Android into one as well :mefiant:
