Thats why < doesnt have any friends in <'s grade! Its a waste of <'s time when < could be learning or being on the internet! < can get allll of <'s social interactions on here! on the world wide web!

< wouldn't have dreamed of bypassing the school's filter to access RPC back in the day. Even now, < would never try to access this place on work / university machines, only with <'s phone, on mobile data, not WiFi.

< went to the Hallowe'en party after all, because there was a table quiz! There were a couple of witch costumes, but most people came as themselves, so < didn't look too out of place. < allowed themself a couple of lollipops; man, < had forgotten what a sugar crash is! :confus:

< still thinks there is a reason they are blocking certain websites and social media, as Master says it's part of safeguarding too. < does get that one can learn things on the internet too, but schools generally will want people to avoid social media platforms and the likes.

< doesn't want to sound like an old man, but < believes there are restrictions in place for a reason, just like how we have laws and people get prosecuted for committing crimes. Criminals are "bypassing" the law at the end of the day.

While that is true, let's not forget that laws are ultimately defined by people, and there are definitely things that have been outlawed in the past that would mark someone as a criminal when in truth, it's not something malicious at all. For example, it being illegal to fly kites in public places!

That's besides the point mind, it's easy to say rules exist for good reason, but frankly, < thinks sometimes rules do need to be rethought and challenged. However, there is also the fact that some rules are written out of prior knowledge and concern for safety, things like regulations are written in blood, after all. In this instance, < understands why schools would heavily restrict the use of the internet, while it can be a good place to find community, there's a helluva lot of shit that can easily mess you up if you're not careful. Restrictions could appear more draconian than they might have to be, but < would imagine it's less out of maliciousness than an abundance of caution.

< thinks its an act of censorship personally... < would rather have full control over <'s system personally. Plus, < knows when to put the computer away.. unlike <'s classmates!

< does agree that there are a lot of silly laws, that being said. For example, < finds it a bit silly that it's apparently illegal to install your own cooker or cooker switch, same with an electric shower and shower switch. The police are clearly not looking for people who are doing that. There's hardly going to be a knock on my door, and a Garda standing there like "Good evening sir. It has come to our attention that someone has been installing showers on the premises!". :P

Though yeah, < gets why schools or workplaces would restrict access to certain places. I'm sure they don't want to open up to certain traffic and even possibly risk having their databases breached etc.

< uses a vpn, < doubts that will lead to <'s school wifi being infected. < has gone on several virus filled websites on school wifi acctuall.

< remmebres we had to switch internet providers at home, because <'s brother wanted to watch a spiderman movie early and the wifi got spyware or something. He got too but he got a virus.

WAS IT WORTH IT??? I dont think so.

A VPN isn't a security tool, it's a privacy tool at best. You access a website that is able to exploit a security hole on your computer, a VPN isn't going to make a lick of difference. We live in an era where any exploit, be it in software, hardware, or through social engineering (i.e. tricking people), can have dire consequences for those who are affected, be it socially or financially.

A school is going to have a lot of personal and financial information, it's not something < would think they'd be willing to risk.

Uh no, your WiFi wouldn't get spyware or anything, that's not how networking works. If anything the computer may have gotten infected and could infect others on the same network.

< Knows networking can be quite a deep dive.

< doesn't doubt that, but < would ask ^^^ to consider the fact that ^^^ isn't the only person there, hell, even teachers could end up getting done over if they're not careful and open an email that seems legit. All it takes is one person to slip up, and suddenly a lot of data can be stolen by malicious people.

< appreciates < might be being a bit blunt about this, but < thinks it's important to understand, as this is a matter of safety.

< thinks that ^ should, you know, not be on Discord or social media while at school and focus on school. De-internet yourself for a bit, relax.

< remembers when facebook first appeared, < was at school. Maybe that gives away <'s age.

Anyway, everyone and their murphy was immediately signed up to that. Little did < know that years later, < would realize the harm it had done. All that constant checking, pointless scrolling...

But < agrees with ^^ that sites like RPC shouldn't be banned. ^^ says they are responsible with their time on the web and < believes that.

< just had a flashback to kids using the primary school classroom PC to go on Bebo, despite being too young to have an account there. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose ! :oops2:

Seriously though, < does agree with Master, Steo and Reese. < wonders if the school has books to read if you finish your work early...

< can read books on the internet! It has everything < needs!

Friends, books, entrainment. Why would < need to read a physical book when < has access to millions right here on this tiny piece of tech.. why would < need physical books?

< remembers this too! Bebo was blocked in <'s school, but there was one really old computer in the corner of the computer room, and one day when we went in, someone was using Bebo. We were like wtf? Apparently it just worked on this one computer whatever way they set it up, but it was a very awful extremely slow computer that took about 30 seconds to even load a page. :P

< gets why it was blocked though, and < is sure they found out about this eventually and fixed it in time, for a good reason.

< actually thinks this would be a good idea, since one can learn a lot from reading books, minus the distraction from being able to easily divert to social media etc.
