I remember earlier this year you talked about how your new Laptop sucked, you either got it for Christmas or your birthday.

Sounds like a fun project! I have a lot of old programs that i need to set up VMs on. Like older versions of Photoshop, for example.
Re: Off Topic
I still have a Lenovo Legion 15 with a 4600H and an RTX 2060 in it. It's not bad, but my PC is a lot better still. 9700X with a 6700XT. I was even thinking I'd like to just get a 9900X3D for the sake of it, but I'd probably be wasting money on extra power I don't really need.

Yeah, I think with a 9700X you're good, I imagine performance-wise the 6700XT is the likelier bottleneck, so in your position I'd be more inclined to upgrade the GPU.Steo wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2025 5:28 pm I still have a Lenovo Legion 15 with a 4600H and an RTX 2060 in it. No? HTML is a programming language. Not the same thing as hardware specs for a computer, which is what Steo is talking about (which I admit that I’m not well versed in this either)EdgyRabbid wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2025 5:34 pm Is it bad that i dont know what any of that means? Re: Off Topic
i brought it up because its the only tech related thing i know a lot about.
Re: Off Topic
I suppose that's true. I guess I'm forgetting just how powerful my CPU really is for the tasks I perform. I haven't even been playing a lot of games either, but in the event I start playing them more frequently and start finding things to chug a little, that's when I'll consider a new GPU.Master wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2025 5:43 pm Yeah, I think with a 9700X you're good, I imagine performance-wise the 6700XT is the likelier bottleneck, so in your position I'd be more inclined to upgrade the GPU.
The only thing is I like to use AMD because of the fact that I usually main Linux, and it makes more sense on there than using a proprietary Nvidia driver. I suppose a lot of newer AMD GPUs had been released too though, not that I'm in a rush to upgrade.

As it stands right now, the hardware market is an absolute mess anyways, I'd be praying my hardware can last considering how hard it sounds like it'd be to find a replacement that would be at parity, let alone a decent upgrade.

Re: Off Topic
It doesn't help when Windows 11's insane requirements forced a lot of perfectly working computers out, as well.
Re: Off Topic
Yeah because of silly things like TPM and certain hardware requirements. Even though TPM can be bypassed, it still isn't ideal. Most people won't want to switch to Linux either, despite the fact those computers would be fine on there.
It's crazy that after the best part of a decade we're still in a predicament like this. I know it used to be due to miners, where they would scalp with GPUs. I wonder why it's like that these days though.Master wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2025 7:29 pm As it stands right now, the hardware market is an absolute mess anyways, I'd be praying my hardware can last considering how hard it sounds like it'd be to find a replacement that would be at parity, let alone a decent upgrade.

Re: Off Topic
I wouldn't say it was a decade, though it has certainly been a slog since COVID. I remember 2019 was pretty good for PC building. But yeah I think it's fair to say hardware has become a lot harder to acquire, even after the initial chip shortages that COVID started, which got excerbated by the crypto mining crowd. I think these days it's more due to the AI craze, a lot of GPU vendors (such as Nvidia) are tailoring more to the AI crowd, and I think as a consequence they're less interested in being affordable for enthusiasts than they are milking that trend. I believe Nvidia's currently the highest valued company in the world at present?
Re: Off Topic
I suppose that makes sense. I just know GPU prices are absolutely insane these days. Maybe I'm confusing it with the GPU shortage before COVID where there were never any in stock due to people bulk buying for mining, and people were trying to sell them second hand a ludicrous prices.

HTML is not in fact a programming language! It is a markup language, like BBcode, Markdown or LaTeX. But it's a lot uglierThe Jonster wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2025 5:44 pmNo?
