Re: About You!

Post by RaypersonNikol »

Hi hello, I'm Nikol. I'm genderfluid, autistic, and a total Rayman and Xenoblade geek, literally I WILL NOT shut up about those two game series specifically. Literally, if you ask me questions about either one I will YAP ENDLESSLY.

I also like drawing (I dabble, but not full time), writing fanfics (currently working on a Rayman lore rewrite, yay) and sleeping like a log.

Rayman is best friend material, you can't tell me otherwise.

Also did I mention I'm autistic? ...Oh, I did? Well YOU GET TO HEAR IT AGAIN XD

But no seriously, I love making friends and will work with any boundaries.

How do we know this though? Your sentence has no traces of the N key in it! :lol:

All this is making me think of the fact that I really have to do something about my OJ-encumbered keyboard. Like it's ridiculous, half the time I can't press the arrow keys without them getting stuck and then having to press the opposite one to go back, which also gets stuck! :tssk:

I'm thinking some IPA on a cotton bud would do the trick, but I don't exactly have bottles of the stuff at home :mefiant: Then I could use old nail polish remover, but that's got water mixed with the acetone, and water probably wouldn't be a good thing to be poking into the keys :ouin:

It's really annoying getting the sticky keys on a laptop.

Hate when keys are sticky. Caused my very first old laptop that I used upon joining here to stop working so I had to remap keys. Thankfully I don't have this issue today.

Maybe I could nick some from the lab. They'd never miss a couple of vials... :bad:

Guess I should do an intro as well, since I never did a proper one for the 2-3 years I've been here for.

Im Ithasmore, but you can really just say Ithas or It or somethibg alonge the lines. Im a guy, and I enjoy video games (mostly indie games), cooking, travelling, skiing, history, reading, and trying out random things! My favorite video games are Omori and Rayman Origins, and my favorite book is The Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing (probably due to recensy bias but whatever). Not sure what else to say, so bye!

I guess my initial intro was a bit vague (and very stupid, since it has the typo of "ass"). :lol:

Well I'm Steo, I still like fixing stuff. I enjoy programming and I contribute towards some open-source projects in my spare time. FamiStudio (Famicom / NES chiptune composition software) being one of the most prominent ones I've contributed to. I also made some contributions to the Rayman Arena launcher that people use to play online. I also enjoy composing chiptune and playing retro games (on the real hardware ;)).

The green Globox I use everywhere initially stemmed from St. Patrick's Day 2019, where I planned to change the pfp on Discord for one day just to celebrate for it, but then it just stuck and I decided to keep it ever since.

So yeah, everyone just knows me as a green Globox, or green frog man. :mrgreen:

Welp, since it seems this topic is active again, i don't see why not joining it too :D

My name is Cho-Choo, or simply Cho (but i have many nicknames lol). I have been around the community for around year and half, mostly in the Rayman Arena part, i have contributed to the Rayman Arena Definitive Edition Online project with some custom skins and, most recently, beta testing and Spanish translation for the launcher.

As things about me, my hobbies are playing videogames, from retro, AAA and especially indie games (i have many favorites, but to mention some: Rayman, Mortal Kombat, Worms, Don't Starve, Plants vs Zombies, Baldi's Basics, Undertale, The Henry Stickmin Collection, and the list goes on...), listening to music (no specific band, but my music tastes go from rock, pop, jazz, electronic, or simply games OSTs/only instrumental and vocaloid), reading, (sometimes, but not often) drawing and swimming. :mryellow:

I can definitely vouch for this. Cho found a fair amount of bugs / issues in the launcher for me to fix as I was cleaning it up. :winkgrin:

It required me making a lot of changes (a lot of the code was so redundant and full of bad practices), so it was introducing new bugs at times during the cleanup. While I still plan to eventually get around to the modern launcher, the fact what they have now simply works means there isn't a major rush for this.

Anyway, nice to see you here, Cho! :D

The amount of bugs we finded in the beta testing was quite amazing, i'm still really happy we could get rid of the annoying antivirus stuff.
I'm looking forward to see what's next for the project, and i'll be more than willing to help/contribute on something next time :hap:

Thank you Steo, it's pretty nice being here :D

I think I had missed the fact that Steo was doing all that work. What exactly was causing the false positives?

So I ended up doing this. Instead of cotton buds (which I don't have), I used an old toothbrush to scrub all the sticky key switches with acetone nail polish remover, then left it to dry overnight. The toothbrush was my mother's idea, and thinking about it it makes perfect sense, since this process was pretty analogous to brushing teeth!

Anyway, it's working OK so far, touch wood and fingers crossed! :D

It's kind of hard to tell, because it was literally spaghetti code. There were about 13000 lines in a single script named accueil.cs, and I think after I was done there were 2500 left or something. I didn't even make it the most amazing code ever but I made it far better than it was.

When I say spaghetti, I really mean it. For example, there was something like:

Code: Select all

if (player1 != null && player2 == null && player3 == null && player4 == null)
{
	// Code to update player 1.
}

if (player1 == null && player2 != null && player3 == null && player4 == null)
{
	// Code to update player 2.
}
This went on about 10 times to update every single combination, rather than simply using a loop. Also yeah, not even else clauses. :boon:

I think most of the false positives were caused by using Memory.dll.x86 even though it literally wasn't being used, but there were some that remained. I'm not entirely sure why, but separating the resources into a folder instead of compiling them into the exe was enough to bring it down the rest of the way and have Windows Defender stop deleting it. It's using .NET 4.7.2 anyway, so it makes sense to just make a modern version of it at some point. For now, at least the other one works.
