What's your reason for still playing Rayman?

Post by RaypersonNikol »

My reason is because he was like a childhood friend I sadly will never get to know because, well, he isn't real. Which sucks, but not much we can do about that, can we. He's got this vibe about him no matter what game, he gives me comforting vibes like how Xenoblade does. He brings me back to when I played Rayman 3D and then Origins. Despite everything I've been through during my time online and learning what cyberbullying is, Rayman was there for me. I played Origins or 3D whenever I felt upset, and it was like my sadness melted into an adventure that I enjoyed, even if it was difficult.

What's your reason? I'd like to know.

It's the gaming equivalent to comfort food to me, I played those games growing up. Know them well enough (well 2 & 3 anyways) now that I can pick up and play em in a day if it takes my fancy

Seems he wasn't just my childhood friend...

He was our childhood friend.

Considering I started with Rayman 1...the friendship might have been a tad contentious to begin with xD

It was compelling, but it was years before I actually beat it.

One look at my Speedrun.com account, and you'll find the answer. So many hours sunk into dying at the start of the run over and over again... And I have no regrets!

It was my "welcome to the gaming world" gate of sorts.
I played a lot of games that cousin lend me before I had an access to the internet, but they were titles that were included in gaming magazines for children. I had a lot of fun with them, but once I got the internet I searched for other video games and stumbled upon Rayman 3 - lady luck loved me.
I couldn't get the game but I've watched gameplays and let's plays of it. It was my first real attempt of escaping from the real world and the school - I was bullied badly, I don't recall school times as fun, in fact I'm glad school is over for me - and the game itself feels like coming back home each time. Oh Gosh, the moment I got my hands on the copy of it I replayed it around 15 times, I couldn't get enough XD

So it's mainly nostalgia, but it's like with Earthbound for me. I gotta play it once a year, it's a tradition at this point of sorts. Additionally I have my oc there, so I'm working on her once in a while. I'm surprised I didn't sit and write anything for Rayman 3 back in 2013 when the obsession came circling back...I need to fix this.

There's also this weird thing about this series only. Even if I replay it each year there are loops of times where I just boot Rayman 3 and the feeling of excitement that I felt for the first time awakens and it's when I usually replay all of the titles all over again. Yes, this includes my tries at beating Rayman 1. I'll have the... third try this or the beginning of the next year.

Also it's worth mentioning, the nostalgia only hits when I hear the Polish localization for the third game. It's unbeatable for me, peak of Polish localizations!

Rayman 2 was my first gaming experience. Playing videogames was and still is one of my favourite hobbies, even though I don't have much time nowadays. Since hobbies are part of our personalities, I guess I wouldn't be the person I am right now if I hadn't played Rayman 2 +20 years ago? I played those games lots of hours, and usually I complete some of the games (2 and 3, mainly) around these dates. I know them even more than the streets of my hometown and I know it will be a fun, chill gaming time.

I'm a sucker for old/retro/classic media, and i'm rarely interested in modern stuff nowadays, so Rayman franchise fits like a ring in my hand.

The games are so lovely crafted, with beautiful scenarios and ear candy soundtrack, along with nice stories (with a spaghetti lore of course :fou2: ) and really fun gameplay (especially for Rayman 3).

The community is also a pretty big reason on why i keep coming back to the games, especially the Arena/M part, they have helped me communicate, make friends, and open up without a shame to the chaotic gremlin i am. :fou2:
Participating in online matches, VCs, and even some online tournaments has been such a great experience to me, even to the point of contributing on the RADEO project, these are genuine great moments i'll keep in my heart, and i can't thank them enough for such nice times :coeur:

Apologies if this got a bit corny, i can't help but express my feelings of these moments in my writting, haha :oops2:
