Rayman 3 VZ aims to both revamp the overall look of the game and at the same time optimizie texture size to the maximum, making it lightweight and easy to load even on older hardware, while offering a fresh new look.
If you wonder what does VZ stands for;
V is short for "variant" or "revamped", indicating the revamped look I'm deliberatly adding to the game.
Z indicates the common .z compression algorithm, indicating the extreme size optimization I'm making to the textures.
I was initially going to go with GZ, as a reference to the .gz compression algorithm used in linux systems, however that didn't quite match, since Rayman 3 never got ported to any unix system; I just thought it sounded cool. However that changed when I was adding more visual revamps than people could expect, so in addition to the files optimization I had to come up with a way to reference that as well as a selling point for the texture pack. So initially planned to name it GZV, but the name sounded convoluted, and would have gave me trouble for the logo, so I ommitted the G and inverted the letters, giving to each one its proper meaning, and that was it
