< only has 32GB and < isn't sure < needs another 32, especially at the prices these days. :P

EDIT: < didn't realise just how expensive the RAM really was. Over 400 euro for 32GB of DDR5?

They can turn it sideways and shove it up their... jumper. :P

But think of all the memories, Fifo. All the random access memories...

Yeah prices have shot riiiightttt up. < Wasn't planning on doing any computer upgrades anytime soon, < certainly won't be able to do so now.

< just looked, and it turns out < initially bought <'s RAM in Pound Sterling prices. < paid £78.52 for 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 @6000MHz. < just found it again on the same listing, and it now goes for £499.99. :fou:

Over 6 times as expensive...

It's insane. And it's not just RAM. Take a look at SSD prices. < believes GPUs will be joining (not that they've been particularly affordable as-is) that crowd soon as well.

< is really hoping <'s current build can last a while, because <'s prospects of replacing any hardware < has looks anytime soon pretty slim.

< hopes the same as ^. < has a few things on the list < has thought about getting for <'s various electronics, but from the sounds of things, it'll cost < a whole body at this point!...

<'s mommy says < is very smart

Also the drawing ended up being probably the best < ever did but since it's risqué (even though it ain't porn) < cannot share

Also also < bought rollers and will practice for the first time since childhood.

Yeah though at least so far SSDs are only 1.5x as expensive. That RAM is literally 6.5x the price it was when < bought it. That's absolute insanity. < thinks it's ridiculous for the average consumer who just wants to build a PC at home. Nobody is going to be able to afford that, nor should they have to pay those extortionate prices.

< now completely understands why < could get a deal on a 9950X3D, because nobody can build a computer. Any second hand CPUs are pretty much useless, nobody will want to buy them (unless they're just upgrading the CPU alone) since they can't buy RAM, so the prices have fallen excessively.

< thinks it's ridiculous. < wonders how long data centres can get away with this. That said, it would be nice if the postal service here would stop being useless and actually bring the CPU I ordered before the weekend at this point.

< knows that all the tech reviewers are pretty angry about it too. Gamers Nexus done a video where every second word out of his mouth was "fuck" or "fucking". < also seen one from Paul's Hardware talking about the data centres. < didn't realise it suddenly became a such a big issue. It's actually crazy how the RAM kit < bought last year is 6.5x the price as we speak. That's pretty much extortion.

< doesn't know why people are always so stupid about these things. "Oh, demand is high and stocks are low, I know, LET'S INCREASE THE PRICES! Now we can capitalise on this issue instead of resolving it."

EDIT: Unless their plan is to make the data centres run out of money even faster, then < kind of gets it, but it's still not fair on the average consumer. Who the hell is going to build a PC at those prices.

< is in agreement that this is the case. < will never buy into this though. I would only ever use the likes of SaaS in a workplace environment possibly. < just doesn't see why this would be in any way useful to the average user at home. < is not doing that. < just can't wait for this fuse to finish burning at some point. < hopes Micron goes out of business as soon as it does, for being such scum and selling out. < hopes it backfires so hard in the end and they lose several billion in the process. Losing twice as many as they made with their scandal would be nice. :hap:

It would also be so terrible if all those data centres just burned to the ground over time. It's fucking storage guys, yet it's more expensive than drugs at this point. Might as well have RAM dealers on the street instead...

All < can say is fuck that. < the cloud can go away for all < cares. Subscription this, subscription that, it's already getting way out of hand for many things. Even to stupid features already built into a car that's been a common thing for decades without subscription.

< says there are still a ton of perfectly good working computers out there at that.

< would rather take scrap parts and build an old computer with DDR3 or something than use the cloud, assuming <'s RAM exploded for some reason. < only thinks the cloud makes sense for enterprise reasons. To the average consumer, it's just nonsensical. It's basically just capitalising by having to subscribe to use a computer that you don't even own. In fact, it's probably even worse than the PC rental service that Steve from Gamers Nexus ranted about before because it was absurd.

< refers to the time they tried to market it to teens who couldn't afford a PC, however, they would only rent it until they no longer wanted it and would have to return the computer intact as it was, including the box etc. This was just a flat out scam, and in all honesty, expecting the average consumer to rent a computer over the cloud is just as much of a scam, actually even worse, since the computer is not even physically there and you lose it if your internet goes down etc. This is absolutely stupid, there is no way this is going to catch on. It will go full circle soon (many people are clearly already sick of AI because of reasons like this).

< can only hope ^ is correct in that assessment, < isn't feeling quite so optimistic about the end-game when it comes to this endeavour of subscribe to everything scheme.
