Personally, I really don't blame him. Every time there's rumors of a remake, seems like Ubisoft - or most companies for that matter - they usually miss the marks of what made the game good in the first place. Took a few games off my Steam wishlist for that reason recently.

Oh boy, Saturn's ranting again! The passion in these crazy rants always gives me a chuckle.

Re: Ubisoft's appearance for Rayman's 30th anniversary
That's true, I just meant that every Rayman game released after Rayman 3 was a disappointment to me, but you could indeed consider that during the few years without Rabbids that followed, the series was not yet in a... "boring situation".Mortamon Saturn wrote: Sat Jan 24, 2026 6:16 pm Butsh waitsh!
Isn't the phrasing implying the Rayman series is in a boring situation since 2011/2006? Therefore, by your correction, aren't you saying Rayman 3 made the Rayman franchise boring?![]()
...But you're right in a way about the number still being incorrect, therefore I'm changing it to 2005 for the totally flawless Rayman DS and Hoodlums' Revenge, which everyone 200% loved!![]()
If it is indeed Rayman Legends that they are remaking, as those leakers are claiming, then it could still be an opportunity to pave the way for the Rayman 4 we've all been waiting for by working on the continuity. But then again, I would prefer for them to treat the entire UbiArt era like some kind of a dream and start right back from Rayman 3. But now this is just me dreaming.

I honestly wouldn't mind a new 2D UbiArt game provided it has an actual story and all of the worlds/levels are new and original unlike Legends where 50% of the game was remastered Origins levels.hoodlumsworld wrote: Fri Jan 23, 2026 3:48 pm Duh, a remake of Rayman Legends?
I don't always agree with Raymanni, but he summarized it well on Bluesky:
Ryemanni wrote:I'm so glad "I'm over" rayman, I still love the old games but the franchise has been in a rut ever since 2011. Whether we like it or not, the ubiart era *IS* rayman to ubisoft and the general public. We will never get another status quo shakeup like origins was, ubisoft is way too comfortable.![]()

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
In that specific case I was more wanting to reference the *EFF!* sound replacing Marik/Melvin and Dartz's cursing in Yu-Gi-Oh! Abridged (which is a gag based on another series which name I can't remember), but that wasn't easy to make it work in text and would have been confusing when everything is already capitalized so I lazily changed it to "effin'".Master wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 1:10 am Of course not, but I do feel a slight level of bemusement when I see terms like "effin," at that point it come across as less not swearing and more a juvenile workaround than a means to not swear in the first place. Though I suppose I am one of the rickety people that has a chip on their shoulder about how everyone now says "ahhh" instead of "ass." So make of that what you will.
A lot of people built up the habit of using those substitutes as most big websites now will outright block/hide their comment or penalize their content if they detect any swearing or other "naughty" word (like "death", thus the whole "unalive" thing, which at least brings its fair share of ironic humour
And the resulting problem that ensues, is like how we treat blood and a lot of other content now censored since the past decade: the less people get used to seeing these "taboo" things and the more they will be shocked by them when they do happen, sometimes even vilifying anyone using or endorsing the use of said ""taboos""... Once again, we can all thank the influence of out of touch corporations and medias for that...
I did forge a lot of my English cursing from figures like the AVGN over the years (and I also grew up with the likes of Joueur du Grenier, his French equivalent who isn't any less crude especially as he is from southern France... the native place of ~90% of my family members where they shaped their very "frank" language, putaingue.Master wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 1:10 am It's a rant, maybe it's cause I grew up in the era of the internet with personalities like AVGN, but I find there's a greater punchiness to letting the odd cuss word come in![]()
But you do you, I'm mostly just commenting on the fact that people sometimes try and workaround out of a missplaced sense of propriety, instead of just taking the opportunity to be authentic, I guess.
In fact, one of my old -and most milk-expired- game reviews (on one of EA's biggest crimes
But as I felt it ended up unoriginal and I also got very tired of regurgitating swear words over and over again which I absorbed from the Internet since my edgy late teenage years, I moved away from doing these sorts of things to work on my own subtler style... and as a stuck-up old-fashioned writer en devenir, I firmly believe in the virtues of finesse and execution.
Sadly even AVGN can't be as authentic with his iconic vulgarity anymore, but regardless, I love how he still manages to make some perfectly good rants even without any cursing!
...Anyway, I think we're straying too far from the rumors about Ubi's GODDAMN FUCKING PIECE OF DOGSHIT BULLCRAP DECISIONS by sparking a disgression from why Mortamon Saturn, 27 years old knob and posh twat used to polluting this forum since the past ~8 years with his verbosity and trash UbiArt takes, hasn't said the MOTHERFUCKIN' "F-word to FUCKING drive home the FUCKING POINT" in his stupid overreaction about a DAMN 4th Chaos Emerald? And in Lazysoft's case, I sure felt a taste of that so many times with all of the imperfections in their cash grab ports, and the whole UbiArt era started by a certain game about """going back to the Origins""".

Also funny you mentioned YGOTAS, I've been getting a little nostalgic for that lately and you reminded me about the little gag.
Bear in mind that the reason we got the remastered Origins levels was because of the delays to the original Legends (remember Legends was intended to be a Wii U exclusive and its initial release date was November 2012. For reference, Origins released November 2011). If Legends released as planned initially, the Back to Origins levels wouldn't have been present.TriangulumDelta wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 4:43 pm I honestly wouldn't mind a new 2D UbiArt game provided it has an actual story and all of the worlds/levels are new and original unlike Legends where 50% of the game was remastered Origins levels.
Though since the question has been brought up, I decided to do a comparison on the levels that Origins and (non-BtO levels) Legends had, this likely isn't completely accurate as I was eyeballing the level listings on RayWiki. But for reference:
Code: Select all
Teensies in Trouble: 10
Toad Story: 09
Fiesta de los Muertos: 09
20,000 Lums Under the Sea: 10
Olympus Maximus: 10
Livid Dead Party: 01 (Others are remixed levels so I'm not counting them here)
Total: 49 Levels
Jungle: 15
Desert: 14
Gourmand: 11
Ocean: 11
Mountain: 05
Steampunk: 07 (Bear in mind that the last 3 are played in one omnibus format)
LotLD: 01
Total: 64 Levels-

I can't help but feel the Rayman Legends remake will be the final nail in the coffin for the Rayman franchise.

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
I feel like this whole discussion has seen us jump to conclusions and get awfully pessimistic. Let's not forget that all of this is just a rumor that could very well be false, and even if it isn't, a Rayman game that no one asked for is still better than no Rayman game at all, isn't it?
And for goodness' sake, give the nymphs less curvaceous designs. They can keep their limbed redesigns, but their current appearances feel out of place among the rest of the franchise's fairies.
It'd be like if a Crash Bandicoot game completely threw out everything after Warped. Where would the series be without characters like Crunch Bandicoot and Nina Cortex?
...oh, right.
I feel like I've said this before, but I would like it best if they incorporated the UbiArt stuff into the next game while still making it feel right at home with the original trilogy's worlds, characters, and general vibe. Don't throw out all of that stuff, just blend it with the rest of Rayman's world rather than "overrunning" it with UbiArt.Mortamon Saturn wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 5:04 pmOh, would I love to see this!Hunchman801 wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 12:08 pm But then again, I would prefer for them to treat the entire UbiArt era like some kind of a dream and start right back from Rayman 3. Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
To be fair, from what I've heard, people did like Crash 4. Even though I do feel a bit iffy about how they decided to just chuck out a lot of stuff from the TT era onwards like the aforementioned characters. (I get wanting to stick with the acclaimed portion of the games, but c'mon, there was nothing wrong with Crunch and Nina...)
I think I agree about incorporating the UbiArt stuff and blending with the other games. A broad-strokes approach probably fits the best thematically given the shifting and uncertain nature of dreams which underpins the very fabric of the Rayman universe, so I could accept that. But of course, there's still the matter of tone and atmosphere, and I suspect that's always going to be a point of contention, since we've got a fair amount of differing views on that aspect of the series.

I think Legends is a bit too old, no one remembers that stupid old game. I think they should do a Rayman in the Phantom Show remake, now THAT game needs a remake!

And instead of a plunger gun, give him a proper gun. Just like the critically acclaimed game: Shadow the Hedgehog (2005).

Screw it, they should make a first person Ramon shooter, and call it "Rayman Raging Rabbids" or smth. That's what this franchise really needs.

Given the fact that I'm fairly certain there's still some vitriol towards the Rabbids, even over 15 years after the RRR trilogy, I suspect some folks would find such a game to be quite cathartic.

Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Well, if it is Legends they're remaking and if they seize this occasion to create a real story around it that is consistent with Rayman's pre-UbiArt lore, then this could pave the way for future Rayman games exactly like you describe. I would still prefer a Glade without Barbara, but I guess there's worse outcomes.RayGamer99 wrote: Sun Jan 25, 2026 9:04 pm I feel like I've said this before, but I would like it best if they incorporated the UbiArt stuff into the next game while still making it feel right at home with the original trilogy's worlds, characters, and general vibe. How would you react if the Rayman 1 port/remake and Legends remake lead to us getting another UbiArt Rayman game?

I suspect there'd be proverbial riots.
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
I don't know why most of you make a fixation on the UbiArt engine. If Ubisoft deemed it an actual asset, they would have it in more than five games instead of quietly shelving it in 2017.

They also made a fair amount of JustDance games with that engine apparently. But I think it's less the engine and more the style I suspect people are fixating on. UbiArt just happens to be synonymous with it at present.

Indeed, it's not the engine itself but the style of the Rayman games that use it. I'm pretty sure you could use UbiArt to make a game with a plot and no dumb slapstick humor in it.
Re: Rayman remake rumor - confirmed by Ubisoft!
Yes, I agree : you could make Child Of Light with it.
It doesn't change the fact that the engine was used last in 2021 with the latest of five Just Dance games that probably didn't take much development time.
Also Rayman mini in 2019 where 95% of the assets where already in place. It does seem to me that higher ups are disinterested in the engine...
