Rayman 2 - PlayStation 1/2 Intros & Nintendo 64 Music

Post by FlapJack »

Hiya, folks!

All this 30th Anniversary fanfare re-energised my interest in Rayman, and I was really happy to discover that it has such a great fan/modding community. Got set up with a bunch of games via Rayman Control Panel, and when deciding my setup for Rayman 2, I thought about how cool it would be to have the Rayman Revolution voice acting in the PC version (I'm aware I'm probably like the 10,000th person to consider this). I quickly learned that this would not be possible to achieve without the game being fully decompiled first, but I realised that it absolutely would be possible to at least add voice acting to the intro cutscene by re-editing the music.

Then I thought, if I can add the PS2 voice acting to the intro cutscene, why not also add the PS1 voice acting?

Then I thought, if I can edit one music track, why not edit all the music tracks, and put the music from the N64 version in the game?

... and then while working on this, I noticed an irregularity with one of the vanilla PC tracks, and figured I may as well tweak that too.

So now I have 4 mods - a Mod Quad? - which make these changes to the audio, with the caveat that I was restricted by the way the PC version of Rayman 2 sequences music, the voice acting that was possible to source (the extracted German audio for Revolution only includes Ly's narration and not the vocals of the second narrator, for some reason), and the fact that some minor musical elements are treated as sound effects and so can't be changed.

Many thanks to Synthesis, spitfirex86, snailrush, and RayCarrot (for the Rayman Assets Archive). Special shout out to Ray2Get, which was not only essential for making these mods, but the work Synthesis put in to document the sequencing of the music files was SO helpful.

Hope you enjoy, and let me know if you have any issues/feedback.

Edit: Just a small point of order - is the reason these mods don't come up automatically in RCP that they're technically "sounds"? I didn't think there would be a distinction when I submitted... will I need to resubmit them for this to work?

Oh wow, a mod quad! That's honestly impressive work. Welcome to the forums, and welcome back to the Rayman rabbit hole. It's a deep one, but we love it here! 😊

Seriously, jumping straight in and figuring out how to swap audio tracks and splice in voice acting is no small feat. Even if you're the 10,000th person to think about it, you're one of the few who actually sat down and did it. That's the spirit!

As for the RCP submission, yeah, that sounds like a categorization quirk. Did you get it sorted eventually?

Definitely gonna download these and give them a listen. Keep up the awesome work, and definitely stick around! 👌

Thank you so much for your kind words!

While it was a lot of work all together, given how straightforward Ray2Get is to use, I was a little surprised that there hadn't been any other sound mods published in the 8 years since it was updated to allow adding tracks back to the game.

As for RCP, unfortunately I wasn't able to resolve, because you can't change a mod's type in GameBanana, and posting a duplicate mod (even of one that has been deleted) is against the rules. Best not to risk it! Maybe Rayman Control Panel will eventually be updated to pick up sound mods, but if not it's not the end of the world. Although maybe it's possible to contact the GameBanana moderators to ask about it? If so, it's not obvious how.

Are the names of the GameBanana moderators listed somewhere? I don't know if they are active.

They don't make it easy to find, but I found a link to create support tickets in the #site-help channel in the GameBanana Discord server, and so I've raised a ticket to ask about it. Hopefully they'll be kind to me! 🤞

Edit (25/05/2026): A GameBanana mod did respond, and they were polite/apologetic but unfortunately said they would not be able to bend the rules for me. So, sound mods they are and sound mods they shall remain! They also suggested they would contact RayCarrot on my behalf to ask for RCP to be updated to fix the issue, which would be cool, but it makes me feel a little guilty because I really didn't intend to create serious work for other people with this. But I trust that RayCarrot knows it's not urgent and that he'll decide based on whether it makes sense for Rayman Control Panel to support sound mods in general, not just for this specific instance.
