Personally I think why Legends of all titles to slap onto whatever this is. I think Legends makes the least sense to remake or even rebrand. Nonetheless, I'd be interested to see what Ubisoft have in store (without any high expectations).

Me and my big mouth... :oops2:

Well, to be fair, they were supposed to appear as enemies in Legends at one point and later showed up in Adventures, so maybe it won't be so bad? As someone who doesn't really hate the Rabbids themselves, if the team can handle them correctly (and assuming that you're not just gaslighting us), I wouldn't be opposed to them making some sort of appearance. Regardless, my optimism has gotten a bit more cautious. :hap:

Flat Earth Society wrote: Wed May 27, 2026 6:55 pm Classic Ubisoft logic. Fans beg for a new Rayman for years. So, they decide to remake a decade-old game that is still perfectly playable on almost every modern platform. Then, when nobody buys it, they'll blame the player base and lock the franchise away forever.
I have to say, this is the inevitable truth. Fans don't even know what they want from a new game (despite claiming to want one), and in reality, what could it even bring to the table? The older games are fine as is, timeless classics. I didn't even look at 30th anniversary, Rayman 1 is fine as is. Legends as mentioned is playable on just about every system anyone would usually have in their home at this point. It by far makes no sense to remake Legends.

I've seen people cope so hard they are just saying "I'll take anything, I just want something". Begging for games does nothing, I said this for about a decade. I personally don't even have interest in a new game because I know it won't be any good. It will be a low effort game just like any other remakes of the games thus far. The broader part of the community (such as Twitter) has bored me for years because it's the same thing on repeat: "when new game". I think the majority of the fan base has spent more time complaining about what they don't have, instead of enjoying what they do have.

That said, much of the fan base is probably two decades younger than I am, but it surely must get boring when it's the same thing every day. "X days without a new game" etc. Just create something Rayman related yourself, play the Rayman games that already exist, or play something else. I like Rayman too, but sometimes companies replace IPs in the end with others. They can't continue the same one forever, especially if they no longer have any ideas or interest. It's not the end of the world if another Rayman game is never created.

Wow, looks like a lot's been happening since I've been away!

I never actually played Legends much myself. Don't even own it, though I think Cosmic does, so I'm willing to give this retelling a fair chance depending on the upcoming news around it. I should give Legends a fair shake with Cosmic before they re-release it in the meantime! :oops2:

Like RayGamer99 says, this could be the (somewhat awkward) start to something bigger in the future. Though I understand the flipside of the situation also. Longtime fans want something brand new, and Ubisoft doesn't seem keen to do anything but old remakes for newer systems. I'm under the impression that they want newer fans to make newer games for them, and I'm not sure what that does for the longtimers. :?

But there's merch I suppose? And fans still seem to be creating fangames for Rayman, hosting Rayman Alive, and enjoying the Rayman games they enjoy. I probably don't have a full grasp of the situation myself, but I don't blame anyone for the mixed reception of this rumor's reveal.

I think Rayman 4 should have just came out in 2007 like it was supposed to if anything. When 2 decades have passed, including much of the original team no longer being part of development, you have to just understand it will never have the original vision or the passion that was put into the originals. I'd be extremely surprised if a new Rayman game released and it was good.

It seems that people here are saying the idea to remake Legends came from Ubisoft's upper management. How do we know that? It could very well be a decision by the dev team, as far as we know.

That's true. If I'm not mistaken, the ubiart games are very popular among the younger generation. They are more stimulating and have a lot of expressive energy.

Couple that with R4's cancellation and I think we can say from the perspective of both management and devs, it's just a more logical decision. EDIT (of course, I agree with Steo and everyone else though).

Also, the devs themselves live in the modern world of stimulation. I'm sure most people spend more time watching videos and games than reading. The impact this has on art should be enormous. No matter how rational you are, you cannot create what is not in your head. This is why the 3D games are products of their time.

We don't know for sure, but it makes sense to me that the development team was also involved in that decision. However, maybe they would have preferred to work on Rayman 4 or a remake of the original trilogy, but Legends is all they could do from a budget and/or workforce point of view? 🤔

That is a really grounded way to look at it, Steo. You make a very fair point about the passage of time, and it is almost impossible to capture that same lightning in a bottle twice when the original creators and the industry landscape itself have completely changed. Any hypothetical Rayman 4 would be climbing an impossible mountain of expectations, and it probably would feel like a different beast entirely without the original team behind it.

And Hunchman’s point about the developer constraints makes a lot of sense, too. If we look at it from a pragmatic standpoint, maybe they really did just want to do something with Rayman, and a visual update to Legends was the only project that fit into their actual budget and workforce limits.

It's still a tough pill to swallow as a fan when we'd all love to see the older classics get some love, but it's easier to understand the decision when you look at those real-world limitations. If this really is the only way the devs could keep the limbless hero active, I just hope they're at least having fun working on it and managing to put some of their own creative spin on the new content.

My Dearest Ubi Soft Entertainment™,

I pray this message finds you well.
I have joined your shindig known as the "Raymond 30th Anniversary™ celebration" expecting the most definitive Raymond™ classic experiences...
Perhaps Raymond 2: The Great Escapade™... a renown classic by most modern standards... or maybe even the Raymond 3: Hooligan Chaos™...
BUT THIS IS A SHAM...! For I have yearned for a celebration of Raymond™'s three decades of history, and have received no such dignity!

Dear Ubi Soft Entertainment™, it has come to my attention that this recently unveiled piece of entertainment media branded as "Rayman Legends Retold™" is NOT in fact the most definitive experience of Raymond™ for your audience! But a crude mockery of the Rayman Legends™ Definitive Edition™ previously released in the year 2017 of this millennium; made with the intent to mislead your customers!
I hereby formally request that you end this charade... and invite thine players to purchase the irrevocable Definitive Edition™ of your video gaming title as published on the Nintendo™ Switch™ family of entertainment systems by Nintendo™! You... who has formerly disgraced your honour, abjuring the Nintendo™ Wii U™ entertainment system with the original advent of Raymond Legends™, thus stifling the potential of such a promising successor to the highly esteemed Nintendo™ Wii™!...

Further assessing your astoundingly asinine ignorance, I have noticed on multiple opportunities how thou were unable to provide correct factual evidence regarding the history of your very own electronic game media franchise, or simultaneously to rerelease Raymond 1™ in its complete form as intended by Sir Ancel all the way back in the year of our Lord 1995...
Thine tutelage... has been insufficient. I wish to suckle upon the truest vittles of your Raymond™ knowledge... if only for a brief moment... so I may know the authentic honesty of your démarche to pay homage to the Raye-Man... but entertainment company... you have none!

What a trifle it is, Ubi Soft™... Your wretched failure to honour such a celebration... so easy... has actually given me lesions, and resulted in me discovering poisonous tendrils growing out of my Raymond's considerably large bodily features™!...
I am most supremely displeased with thine actions, Ubi Soft™, as of this day of our Lord, May 28th, 2026, 6:46 AM... EASTERN! Why, oh, why... do thou keep oh so severely disappointing our faith? Thou have failed yourself AND US!

I hereby fervently demand that you rethink your business methods... or I shall write even more strongly worded forum messages!... If I am to be continually exposed to this... sham!

Yours truly and forever,

Rayman Community-Memberson Esquire

Ugh, that’s incredibly disappointing. If that's the case, I'm completely out. I have absolutely zero interest in playing the exact same game I've already beaten a dozen times just because they slapped a fresh coat of paint and some gimmick 3D sections on it. If we aren't getting a proper, fully 3D adventure, they should have just left Legends alone.
Which is why I cannot have any hopes for the future even in spite of our beloved Sir RayGamer99's optimism about this remake (that may or not be revealed on the precise day of my birth to further ruin my existence :noelnoir: ), as the most likely scenarios would be:
-This fails, and Ubisoft keeps disregarding Rayman for more decades except to bring in more mobiley games or whatever cheap techbro slop will be trendy by then.
-This succeeds, and Ubisoft sees it as Legends being yet again the only thing Rayman fans want, and thus we're doomed to further decades of the Ubi Art style being the series' only identity and the gameplay formula being recycled ad nauseam!

Sure, the most fervent fans of this formula will be most pleased as some of them already are on Twitter... but most old-timers and people craving a new experience will be left in the dust yet again... :hap:

Considering how much the community has been divided over decades by the lack of cohesiveness between most Rayman games, this may be the unfortunate truth...
While Rayman 4 and a revival of Rayman 2 or 3 are the most highly requested, even making these will likely disappoint many, also considering Ubi's inconsistent efforts with all their franchises since the mid-2005s, they really aren't into the same level of care and quality since they got comfortable in their success as a company.

Almost none of what has been brought to the franchise after 2013 has been in any way a valuable contribution to its history. Hardly anyone will nostalgically look back at this era of bread crumbs and go: "Woah, Rayman's Incrediballs Dodge was all my childhood! :coeur: :nostalgic: " (heck, you can't even experience some of it anymore as Adventures and Mini are defunct and can't ever be experienced officially anymore... if only Ubisoft would... "Stop Killing Games"... ). Someone who already owns Rayman 1 has no reason to get the 30th Anniversary Edition when it will be mostly a downgrade to them aside from minor details like the widescreen...
People born in the late-2000s/2010s grew up with Legends... and now people born in the 2020s will grow up with Legends... How did we advance in the slightest since the last decade?

And this is what even some of our most talented creators such as Adsolution once said, we shouldn't waste our energy begging for more Rayman and instead create it ourselves (doesn't even have to be a game, ANYTHING you can make is meaningful! :proud: ...*Looks at DeviantArt* Well, almost anything! :noel: ).
Regardless of what the future may hold for the Raymond, we sure can make it a lot brighter by our own hands!

 Man, that is so painfully accurate. It really feels like there is absolutely no winning scenario here for those of us who want a true evolution of the franchise. Either we get blamed for it flopping and the IP goes right back into the freezer, or we buy it and corporate concludes that we only ever want to play the exact same 2.5D formula until the end of time. It's incredibly frustrating.

This is easily the bleakest summary of the state of this IP, but it's the absolute truth. Kids who were toddlers when the original game launched are practically old enough to drive now, and yet the "new" Rayman experience they get to talk about is... still just Legends. We've been completely frozen in time for over a decade.

I think Steo is right on the money, too. Even in some alternate universe where Ubisoft miraculously decided to greenlight a proper, big-budget Rayman 4, their current track record and the state of the modern gaming industry don't give me much confidence that it would actually be good. It'd probably end up bloated, over-monetized, or completely stripped of the charm that made the original games classics.

Honestly, focusing on our own community projects and keeping the passion alive ourselves seems like the only way to actually make the future look a little brighter. At least the fans actually know what makes Rayman special!

Okay then. Some info has come out and it seems like this is actually part remake, part new game kinda? Dutch Nintendo site N1up got some new info. This is what it got me via Google Translate.
I have been in contact with a source within Ubisoft itself for quite some time. This person was able to pass on all this information to me previously. I had not shared this before in order to conceal the identity of this contact. Now that so much information is in the air, I feel safer sharing this information with you.

The game will be a remake of Rayman Legends, but in 2.5D. So the game will still primarily (I will come back to this) be a 2D platformer. Rayman has also received a small redesign. He now has two separate eyes instead of a Sonic-like eye, has more details on his shoes, and has his sweater drawstrings neatly tied in a knot. Rayman and Globox are getting various new skins, including looks from games like Rayman 1 and Rayman 3, but also crossovers like Astrobot and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The remake will feature 3D segments in the style of Star Fox, where you fly on the back of a dragon and shoot down enemies. The game will also feature a real story with a new villain.

I have seen photos and screenshots of these 3D models, skins, and press events. However, I cannot share these to protect the identity of my contact within Ubisoft. But I can guarantee that you will see more of this next week when the game is actually released.

I haven't actually posted my thoughts about this here. I'm gonna change that.

I'm not upset at all by the fact that this is gonna be a remake of Legends. I'm just weirded out. It hasn't even been a decade since the last time Legends was re-released. (Definitive Edition, 2017) That, and we already had a Rayman re-release this year with Ray1 Anniversary.

That said, with what I've heard about the new 3D sections and looking at the new branding, this could be one of those "remakes". The kind that are really just new games disguised as remakes of older ones. If not, oh well. I'm probably gonna put it on my wishlist regardless.

Wow, this is like really specific. 😳 At least the dragon ride section matches what NOT Nate said before, so I'm inclined to believe it.

I just don't really know how I feel about Rayman with... separate eyes? 🫣

I understood this as Rayman's eyes being disjoint (in the previous designs, there is no space between them). Maybe that's not what that person meant, but then... why mention it at all? 😬
