The key art isn't even real, you can rest easy.

Not sure why they would have an AI generated key art yet human-made renders.

That "key art" looks fake AF. If it's actually real then it would be sad that Ubisoft would use AI for something like this - but I don't believe that yet.

Interesting stuff happening here btw (I was gone for a couple days so I'm a bit late with my reaction), but I wish they could have stayed a surprise to be revealed properly. I think we should just wait until we see it before trying to form opinions.

Well, I'd certainly take a more serious Betilla over the Origins counterpart anytime, which was completely contradictory with her original innocent character...
I JUST WISH THEY DIDN'T GIVE HER LIMBS AND MADE HER A GENERIC FANTASY FAIRY/HUMAN AGAIN GODDAMMIT! YOU. DON'T. JUST. GROW ARMS AND LEGS... WITHOUT EXPLAINING IT!! :pascontent:

As for everyone saying this is AI... Considering Ubi's recent directions or even the Board Games fiasco which occured at some point...
Who's to say this wasn't AI used officially by Ubi themselves, regardless of how inconsistent this would be with the game's actual look? :noelnoir: (In fact, we even confused some of their actual human-made art with AI for the psychedelic artwork from some time ago, so who's to say it's not just an art style resembling typical AI slop, just like what happened with Age of Mythology Retold-... OH! I see what you did there, Ubisoft! :hap: )
And if that really uses generative AI, then NOOOOPE, I ain't giving any chance or a single cent to this remake EVER! No, no, no, mes amis! :noelnoir: :pfff:

As for what I was gonna post before the new declarations of our dear Totally Not Nate At All, or that monster of a picture:

I hope this reimagining will end up making me eat all of my words from the past few months, and I'll GLADLY eat all of them!
If this is really a full reimagining of Legends that goes beyond merely changing superficial crap like "iT's 3dee nOw iNsTeAd oF 2D!!" or adding bread crumbs of extra content, I may end up being fully on board with it. And despite the Legends branding, considering Back to Origins is still likely to be included, it may even be a rewrite of that whole era!

Genuinely, if this reboots UbiArt Rayman into proper sequels to the classics, or at the very least something more in line with their tone and universe, I'll gladly take this over any of the 2010s' games ANYDAY!
And yeah, if it ends up that way, I already anticipate the fans of these current games will be angry that this going in a grittier and less cartoonishly comedic direction... but Rayman's original identity, was nothing like the total flanderization and overly comedic retcon of 1's cartoon universe that these games have been.
Rayman 2 and 3 were clearly directing the series towards establishing a clear set universe and identity, and even in spite of some imperfections and the humorous tone of Rayman 3, they absolutely took what they were trying to tell seriously enough and the stories had important and meaningful stakes that went beyond just "oh bad guys happenz while we slept, and naw we gotta wake up and save teh world or something!!".
Despair, slavery, pollution, nature VS technology... Rayman 2 had these serious topics in the implicit nature of its story, and Rayman 3 suggested similar bits of that along the tragically self-destructive desire for revenge of Reflux that made him die as a mindless grotesque monster, as well as Globox's sort of "Stockholm syndrome" relationship with André that ended up pushing him into becoming more brave and being at the direct front of challenging a giant godlike monster when he was formerly always a coward in the face of *any* threat.
Ancel always wanted to tell a story through his games, especially regarding ecology (which did show in R2 or Beyond Good & Evil, or even from what I managed to analyze in Rayman 1's Game Over), but then all of that has been completely thrown out of the window since Origins...

The original Origins ( :noel: ) and Legends will always exist in their own little bubble, and like Rayman M/Arena, we'll be able to perceive them more as spin-offs that could just do whatever they wanted.
But this... will only be right if Retold is indeed THE step in that right direction, otherwise as its title may imply: it would be just a different telling of a legend, a tale possibly made up by Polokus or some folks from the Glade with embelished details that may not reflect anything which actually happened...
Still... Legends and Origins were far from the priority right now, I'll always stand by that, but it may truly be some good first steps towards a more cohesive and better written franchise...

Whoops, I triggered the RayTunes alarm! :fou2:

I agree the design is not perfect, but so far, I VASTLY prefer this over the UbiArt design we have been stuck in the past 15 years, and it truly fills me with joy to see the laser-washing powders will truly be featured as skins.
The expressivity is already less cartoonishly silly as that design was as a sort of dumbed down version of the Rayman 3 one, and I hope Rayman will finally be able to have other "emotions" than just mindlessly smiling all the time or screaming.
Rayman 1 did that so much better than all of these modern 2D entries... and it was with the limitations of 16 years before them. The trailers for Mini did show a step forward towards rectifying that, and its redesign of Mr Dark was completely true to the tone of Mr Dark's classic incarnations unlike the aborted attempts from Origins and Jungle Run, so maybe it'll be better...
EDIT: Well, nevermind! This sloppy new pic certainly doesn't make the design look particularly great, and it's a HUGE tone mismatch with everyone's else faces there! :mefiant:
But hey, Rayman is certainly the best looking one there... Omagash, what's up with Barbara and Globox's faces!? Even Murfy and the Teensie... :beurk:

As for the "new villain" considering what has just been told... I have what I think is a cool theory! Hear me out!
This is the rewrite of the evil Magician... ya know... "Ales Mansay" :hap:
Except this time, he won't be a stupid Teensie rectonning the R1 Magician, but a proper sort of cultist of Mr Dark, and the eclipse may be tied into bringing him back! In fact, on the picture, you can see him surrounded by evil thorny roots... the same evil thorny roots that were visible in the Origins trailer of "Mr Dark", or in the Mini art of Mr Dark himself! We may actually get both if we're lucky, and we'll now have a proper charismatic depiction of the main villain of the UbiArt era! :D
PLEASE, I HOPE I'm not the one being too optimistic this time!

The new key art looks pretty good, though some of the designs feel a bit off to me. The fairy on the right looks way too generic fantasy, and the figure at the top is clearly the cloaked villain NotNateDrake mentioned earlier.

As for the 3D model leak with the blue hair, I honestly don't mind the mask going over the hair. That's exactly how the combat suits worked in Rayman 3, with the hood wrapped around his face and his hair sticking out of the top, so the developers are actually being faithful to the original game there. My only real issue is the face itself. It has a bit of a weird DreamWorks look, especially with the teeth, but the actual design of the Heavy Metal Fist suit is fine.

I'm willing to give it a chance, we'll just have to see how it actually looks in motion next week.

If the AI key art is “real” then why does rayman look completely different in it than he does in his new render

It's hard to compare because one is a costume... what big differences do you see?

Anyways, I don't think anyone mentioned the price tag? €39.99 / $39.99 is pretty reasonable at least.

Probably because of the eyes, mostly (though it may be due to the mask).

But as I did read a R1 costume is in the plans, I think we can safely assume the skins won't look the same as each other in terms of style.
For example, the Heavy Metal Fist is more like a mix with the R3 design + Sparks of Hope (with some hints of the Brawlhalla Super version and the R3 beta designs).

But hey, as usual... let's wait and see...

His drawstrings, hoodie, and shoes. In the render art and what I heard from some leaks his drawstrings are supposed to be tied in a knot and they’re not in the ai art. His shoes are also different too and the bottom of his hoodie looks off

I think people are getting a little carried away by claiming that the image was generated by artificial intelligence, when in reality it’s clearly the result of upscaling.
Also, I searched all over 4chan for this image, and it turns out it’s from this thread.
https://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/73979 ... ition-leak
The person who posted it seems to be the same one who posted the other images of the Rayman logos and skin.
He says: "next time mention who published these things online
namely, me."
So the source isn’t exactly anonymous.

Nate has never been wrong about these things, and responding to him that way also shows a lack of understanding of his extensive background in the video game industry.

Image

Also, I don't get why people say Rayman looks different. It's literally the same—it's just that the upscaling in the second image causes some details to be lost.

Basically, you're making a bunch of unfounded assumptions based on an image that was poorly upscaled by a Twitter leaker, thereby tarnishing the good name of incredible artists from the likes of Ubisoft Milan and Ubisoft Montpellier.

Kudos to anyone who spoiled it, like this guy on X: https://x.com/noarmsandnolegs . This game deserves the best treatment possible, not unwarranted hate for no reason just because people are afraid of AI.

Maybe the picture has just been AI upscaled. I see no details that would contradict all the infos we got.

I checked 3 Image checkers for AI. the first one told me 56% AI, the second 9% and another 96%. the last one that got 96%. It tells me Stable Diffusion - 28%, Other - 24% and Imagen/Nano Banana - 7%. But I can't trust this so I'm waiting for an official reveal

NotNateDrake mentioned that someone gives orders to this new villain. My theory is that Ales Mansay, A dark teensy or I think the best theory is that Mr Dark is giving this new villain orders

By the way, this reminds me way too much of something... :bad:
This suspiciously reminds me of Terraria... I mean, the villain looks literally like the Nebula set from the game, and their premise is almost the same as the Lunatic Cultist linked to the set's same event! So I guess it'll be the Rayman version of "summoning the Moon Lord" but with Mr Dark!

Dude, please don't forget to put it under spoilers like what I just added, people are getting leaked badly enough as it is

But, to respond: seems that Mr Dark could indeed be the main villain, so either this is a complete reinterpretation of him, or this is indeed the new take on his "fan"! :hehe:
I would love that as this is what I wanted all along since the Magician disappointed me as an antagonist in Origins!

In fact, not long ago, the official Rayman happened to like both my Twitter and Bluesky posts about me stating how great Mr Dark's Mini design was, how it was wasted in a mobile game hardly anyone could play and how fantastic it would be for him to return in a main game... and this is the only time they ever did this for anything I posted directly on my accounts (aside from the time I "marketed" the official arrival of their Bluesky account on their behalf on Twitter), so while this probably doesn't mean a single thing in regards to Retold, at least someone at their HQ is definitely aware of the demand for more Mr Dark to be in the spotlight!
Sorry :| but you're saying that my theory is correct about Mr Dark ? I think Mr Dark will be a commander giving orders and being hidden, and probably seen in the end of the game while the "main villain" is the guy that follows the commands to that villain Nate was talkign about.

Haha don't worry, everything is going so fast in this thread that it's hard not to forget certain things in your posts, I had to edit one of my big ones multiple times and there are still some mistakes! :oops2:
We'll have to wait and see for what's it's actually going to be like in the game, but I'm agreeing with you! :)
And like I said in a previous post, both times Mr Dark has been represented in a Ubi Art Rayman game had him represented alongside Darkroots just like the hooded figure on this key art, so this is likely the sort of scenario they are going for if this would have any legitimacy!
