Avatars. They're both too cushy. Everything around them is great, but you don't have a choice but have a not great avatar on level 24. No beef with the characters, though.

Then we could make new avatars instead of modifying the ranklist. However, it will be hard to find better pictures of Betilla and Space Mama

Well, the characters look fine, and the pictures are great by themselves, but Space Mama and Betilla don't really look good anyway. That's the only problem with a 2d game.
