There has been a lot of debates on whether The white keys of a piano are ivory and that the black keys are Ebony. This has mystified many pianists for many years.

No, they aren't any more. It's just something synthetic now.

No, ivory and ebony are expensive, so synthetic stuff makes pianos more available.
