Microsoft Sucks
Let's all bash Microsoft! Bonus points if you say nice things about Mac and Linux. I'm too tired to think of all the atrocities Microsoft has committed, so I'll leave it to whoever posts next.

Yes. Such as ruining the industry with their Windows monopoly, and making sure no other operating system can run their programs. That's one example.

You know, I don't like M$. But I really hate Apple. Linux? O.K., I'm going to try to install it.

Why do a lot of you hate Apple? They practically invented the personal computer, and managed to create the closest thing to perfect with OS X Leopard. Plus, they created the iPod. Need I say more? However, I think we can all agree that Linux is the best, no matter what.

Re: Microsoft Sucks
It depends, really. Windows is an unsecure, unstable, and generally awful operating system and I do prefer Macs by far. However, Microsoft did create the best game console of the seventh generation.

The X-Box 360? Hardly. The PS3 was better by far, in terms of graphics, gameplay, everything. Plus, with full backwards compatibility and the built in Blu-Ray, the PS3 is the winner by far.

Re: Microsoft Sucks
Wrong, actually. The PoS3 may have a stronger processor, though no one even has the skills yet to harness its power, and they probably won't until we enter pretty well into the next-generation. And if you've ever actually built a gaming PC, you'll know the graphical prowess and general system capability comes from the graphics card. The PoS3 cheapened out on that and falls behind the Xbox 360. In fact, the Xbox 360 can take on more complex models than the PoS3's graphics system is capable of, says the specs. It's a newer console--it doesn't mean it's better.
You're also wrong about backwards compatibility in a way. The Xbox 360 may not support every single Xbox 1 game with the newest update, though some PoS3's don't have any backward compatibility at all. And Blu-Ray. If I wanted to watch movies, then I'd buy an actual player. It just so happens that I don't even care a bit about Blu-Ray when everything's still coming out on DVD and once that stops, I'll just be watching Starz more often. Because of that, it's still a waste of money for me because I won't be even looking at Blu-Ray for a long, long time. And to be honest, no game, no matter how big, will ever use close to 25GB of disc space this generation. Everything still fits on a single DVD. In addition, I find Sixaxis to be more gimmicky than anything. The only other first-party option (since I don't like cheap third-party stuff) is the DualShock 3, and I simply can't stand the DualShocks for most games.
Finally, when I buy a game console it's for the games. The Xbox 360 definitely has a much, much better collection of games than either of the other two.
I see no real pluses for the PoS3.
(Despite my defense of the Xbox 360, I still do hate anything Windows. Even Pocket PC, a mobile version of Windows for PDAs, is pretty wonky. It's the reason I've been considering a new PDA.)

Re: Microsoft Sucks
OK, I can admit, you've done your homework. But when it all comes down to it, the systems really aren't all that different, in terms of specs that is. And even if it doesn't harness all of it's power, or use it in most games, it means that it has power to spare. Plus, the 360 only has 1 really good game that isn't available on any other console. That's Halo 3. GTA IV is available on both, as are the majority of other games. And on the backward compatibility front, the games that aren't compatible with a PS3 aren't worth playing at all. It's sort of like the compatibility issues with Vista. Those games that don't work in Vista aren't really worth playing. Finally, the Blu-ray plays regular DVDs as well. No downside to an extra player that can also play the next generation of digital video.

Re: Microsoft Sucks
Actually, it means it's power wasted. A processor is worth very little to a game system if it has a lackluster graphics system. This means that while this makes a very powerful processing computer, it's a poorly built game system. And 1 really good game? There are tons more great games for the Xbox 360 than just Halo 3. (I will say, though, that Halo has always seemed like an awfully ordinary shooter to me--nothing amazing.) There are definitely plenty of better exclusives than on the PoS3. And finally, when I said certain models didn't have backward compatibility, I meant they have zero backward compatibility, and some do. And I know that any Blu-Ray disc player will play DVDs, of course, though the thing is that I'm wasting money towards some Blu-Ray functionality that I'll won't use (given that it's a game console). That is a downside for those who haven't even considered going for Blu-Ray simply because we don't care about Blu-Ray. How about we just dismiss this conversation? I'll think what I want, you think as you want. (Because my opinion isn't changing and it sounds like yours isn't either.)Feanaro Surion wrote:OK, I can admit, you've done your homework. Heh, and since this is some anti-Microsoft thread (for some reason), I will say that Vista has so many problems I would rather switch to Linux. Plus the fact that it's a Mac OS X knock-off in visual style (albeit much uglier) and even in set-up. It's like they're surrendering to Apple in the typical Windows manner of doing things.

Re: Microsoft Sucks
i agree about halo, i really don't see what's so great about it, and also about the ps3; it's hardly worth the extra 1-2 hundred dollars extra for a console that isn't as good. but i don't see why you hate dualshcoks so much. i think they're great controllers.
hm, this topic has very quickly gone in a new direction.

Re: Microsoft Sucks
Yeah, we both have our ideas, and we both have some good points. I'm glad we can agree that Vista is horrible, though. The whole visual ripoff thing is just another reason why Mac is winning the war. Many people are at least partially switching to Mac. You know, keeping their games on PC, and using Mac for whatever they can. And the funny part is, some people who are Windows freaks are switching to Linux, because Vista is crap, but they won't concede to Mac. lol.

Re: Microsoft Sucks
Yeah, I completely agree with that. Once the novelty of all the bells and whistles has worn off, you're left with a pretty stupid system. And for the people who can't afford all the bells and whistles, they're pretty much stuck with shit from the beginning.

Re: Microsoft Sucks
Well, you know, Apple says that their video service is better than a Blu-ray Disc. I say personally any kind of medium is better than this kind of video service.
Goin' to X360 and PS3: Idea of using a network processor as CPU of console without any changes is currently sick. Mainly, because CBEA is really messed up. I thank on design of this kind of CPU - and I found generally better idea (but, remember, I'm not a engineer, so maybe it is also sick). And modified PPC was already working in GC.
But, that's true, I don't like most of M$ ideas. UAC. Lacking possibility of upgrading hardware. No support for other architectures than x86 (it is still possible to change it to better one). These are the worst ones.

I understand roughly what you mean, but you didn't give us much context. Mind rephrasing that?
