Re: Pirate-Community
Oh gawd I used to have to pay about £25 to have singing lessons at school. Then when I took music as a GCSE I could get keyboard lessons for free. ;P
Re: Pirate-Community
I pay (or, my parents pay...) around 600 nkr for my lessons a year, and I get them cheaper because I play two instruments. Equals around... a little less than 120 USD half a year for the lessons. Then comes the fee for renting shitty, half-working instruments... I don't really know what that is. Then there's the fee every member has to pay to keep the band running, which is about 900 nkr for half a year... 180 USD... Then there's other small costs, like oils, rosin, grease, note-sheets and books, new strings (though I guess strings are not really small-cost... when I bought my el-violin (which was a cheap bugger, btw, but it's fun to play with) I had to buy new strings as well because the strings that I got with the little blue baby were so... dry and crisp and they didn't sound good at all, and the cost of the strings surpassed the cost of the violin (though the violin was on Christmas-sale, while the strings were not))... And that's when I don't even own my own instruments. Once I do, I will have to pay for repairs myself, and good instruments also cost a good lot. I'm saving up money already now, as I know in about three years I'm gonna have to buy my own violin and my own trumpet (or maybe I'll buy a flügelhorn when the time comes. Hmm...). So yeah, depending on what you play, playing an instrument is more or less quite expensive. But of course, it is also so much more fun and a lot more giving than smashing buttons on a cheap plastic wanna-be guitar.
I rambled again. ): *slaps self*
My el-violin looks like thiiis by the way and it is very shiny. Except I switched out bits and parts. Like the studs. They were just dumb and cheap. I might also get the neck and the stool switched out because they are dumb and cheap as well.

I like playing the classical violin more though because therefore I'm gonna go to bed now before I ramble your heads of. I could talk all day about violins though. *blah blah blah*

Re: Pirate-Community
ah, limely, i didn't see the pic before (school blocks
). the violin looks nice.
Re: Pirate-Community
Just wondering; How do you tune a violin?
Re: Pirate-Community
Pretty much like you tune a guitar, by turning the pegs and stuff.
Re: Pirate-Community
No, I meant what notes you tune the strings to. e.g. B-E-A-D-G, which is the notes the strings on my bass are tuned to (normally. Sometimes I drop them to B♭-E♭-A♭-D♭-G♭).
Re: Pirate-Community
Oh, like that! *blonde* It's G-D-A-E.
Re: Pirate-Community
With a low G and a high E? That's just the opposite of a four-string bass.
Re: Pirate-Community
That's right. :3

Re: Pirate-Community
Yeah I have the same reaction as you.
Re: Pirate-Community
Do you ever use standard tuning E-A-D-G. Or do you prefer playing in a different key?Tobbe7 wrote:No, I meant what notes you tune the strings to. e.g. B-E-A-D-G, which is the notes the strings on my bass are tuned to (normally. Sometimes I drop them to B♭-E♭-A♭-D♭-G♭).
My personal preference on Piano is to Play transposed down 4 semitones, because it has slightly more bass to it, and a fuller sound. With Guitar, I play in standard tuning most of the time, but occasionally I will use my capo and change the tuning.
Re: Pirate-Community
He does, it's just that he has a 5-string bass it seemsBeebop wrote:Do you ever use standard tuning E-A-D-G. Personally I prefer the standard tuning, I only tune down to E flat to play some SRV's songs.
Re: Pirate-Community
How long have you been playing Guitar for. And how long have you been a fan of SRV?Matyuv wrote:He does, it's just that he has a 5-string bass it seemsBeebop wrote:Do you ever use standard tuning E-A-D-G.
