Heirs to the Throne
Prologue
A book opened. A spell was read. A thousand years passed. A creature was kept alive by mutating red lums for extra years. And now, the spell was nearly complete. Thirteen was the number. She was in danger. Rayman was in danger. She had to warn him.
Alaesia's eyes opened. The sun was rising and rain fell, tapping against the windows. Thunder boomed softly in the distance. Next to her, Dorithmir slept peacefully. His dark hair scattered over his pale face.
She got out of bed and put on a pair of jeans. Dorithmir stirred.
He rolled over. "What are you doing up?" he asked sleepily.
"I had a vision last night." Alaesia took the Snake Cross Amulet out of the dresser drawer. The two glowing, blue snakes bound together by a ring around them, glowed brightly, sensing danger. She put the necklace around her neck and added, "I have to go back to Rayman's world and warn him."
Dorithmir sat up. "You want me to go with you?"
Alaesia sat back down on the bed and kissed him. "I'll be back before you know it."
"I've heard that before."
Alaesia smiled and kissed him again. "I'm just giving Rayman a warning. I'll be back before you wake up."
She stood back up and Dorithmir laid back down. Alaesia left the cottage and walked along the beach in the rain. She did not have the energy to create a portal at the moment. She was still drowsy from just waking up. She would have to call Fhuyt.
Fhuyt. She reached out telepathically. The world's in danger. I have to give Rayman a warning.
Done. Fhuyt said and she was instantly teleported.
That was what she loved about Fhuyt. For one, he was wake when no one else was. For two, instead of wasting time with questions, he trusted her enough that she only had to say the world was in danger.
But now she had to focus. She had helped Rayman and Ly build their cottage, so she knew where it was. The only problem was she had to walk a while before she got there.
A blindfold went over Alaesia's eyes. Her first instinct was to shoot out at the unseen enemy with her soul powers, but they didn't work.
That shocked her long enough for the enemy to grab her hands and tie them behind her back. She tried to burst into flaes and burn off the blindfold and the ropes, but none of her magic worked. It was as if the blindfold numbed her magic. The enemy picked her up and carried her off.
A large, green fly saw her being carried off. He flew away to find Rayman and warn him.
Chapter 1
The three children walked up the small hill that led from the cottage their parents had built before they were born to the lake at the bottom.
Yehaiel, born only a few seconds before his twin sister, had blonde hair like his father's. It stuck out a little but nowhere near as much. A fishing pole rested on his shoulder and he carried a tackle box in his hand that bumped into his leg as he walked. A yellow tail similar to his mother's flicked with some irritation.
Ameaj walked next to him. A hand that was not attached to an arm carried an empty bucket. She had a large nose like her father's but her mother's long, purple hair.
A smaller child chased dragonflies up the hill. He was the splitting image of his uncle at his age, with dark hair. He too, was limbless, but had a dark tail like his brother's. He disappeared into a patch of tall grass.
"Jimmy, don't get lost!" Ameaj called after him.
He came back out of the grass and continued up the hill with his siblings.
Finally, the cottage came into view. Two stories rose off the ground made of wood, stones, and other random objects that their parents and their friends had gathered.
They went up the three porch steps and opened the door.
"Didn't catch anything!" Yehaiel called as he set his pole and box by the door. Ameaj set the bucket down on her way in. Wanting to be like his older siblings, Jimmy picked a few blades of grass and set them on the floor as he came in.
Before they were able to close the front door, however, a large, green fly shoved his way in the house.
"Coming through! Watch out!" Murfy said as he searched for Rayman.
Rayman emerged from another room. "What's going on?"
"Rayman, we've got trouble. Alaesia's been captured."
Ly came out of the same room. "Why? Who's taken her?"
"Don't know. But if she's in trouble, so is the world. All I know is that the person who took her went north." Murfy said.
"I'll find her." Yehaiel said, a gleam of hope and excitement in his eyes.
"Me too." Ameaj said. She wanted to save the world as bad as her brother did, a trait they had inherited from Rayman.
"No. Your mom and I will go. We'll be back soon." Rayman said. "Murfy, go find out all you can and get Neshae over here so he can watch the kids."
Murfy nodded and flew out the door.
"We can help." Yehaiel said. "Just give us a chance."
There was a look in Rayman's eyes as if he was considering the idea. After all, he had only been around Yehaiel's age when he had first saved the world. "No. You may get your chance some day, but for now, I need you two to help Uncle Neshae watch Jimmy."
Rage burned in Yehaiel's eyes as he turned and went back outside. His temper was short and he needed to get away from everyone and cool off.
"Yehaiel!" Ameaj ran out after her twin. Jimmy followed.
As they reached the bottom of the hill, they sat on a rock on the edge of the lake. Insects buzzed around the aquatic plants that stuck out of the water. The last few rays of the sun cut through the twilight and illuminated the hill. Fish jumped out of the water to catch the insects. And for a moment, all was peaceful. Neither of the children spoke as they gazed into the lake's surface.
"I'm going to follow them." Yehaiel finally broke the silence. "I'm going to go north and find Alaesia. That will prove to them that I can handle saving the world just as well as Dad."
"No you won't." A shadow passed over those final rays of the sun. A dark figure landed at the base of the hill behind them. He was limbless like Rayman, but his hair was dark and sort of stuck out and hung down. His eyes were green and his shirt was black with a red circle with a red dot in the middle, making a bull's eye. Black biking gloves covered his hands and large, bat wings were spread as he landed, but folded themselves over him like a cape.
"Uncle Neshae!" Jimmy jumped up and ran to the vampire. Neshae picked him up and hugged him.
"How's my little man?" He asked and put the boy down.
"Hey." Yehaiel and Ameaj greeted their uncle.
"Why such long faces?" Neshae asked them. "I haven't seen such depression since I was bitten."
"Mom and Dad won't let us come and rescue Alaesia." Ameaj filled him in.
"Well, maybe they've got it covered." Neshae said. "Don't worry, we'll have a great time."
Yehaiel smiled and looked out at the lake again. I will be having a blast. He thought. Proving everyone wrong.
"And don't even think about running off, Yehaiel." Neshae siad. "You'll get the chance to save the world one day. It's in your blood. You three are heirs to the throne of heroes. You come from a long line of them."
"I don't want to wait for some day. I want to save the world now while I've got the chance." Yehaiel said.
"You know what?" Neshae said. "I'll bet that a troll came out of the shadows and dragged off Alaesia to be its bride. The world is probably in no danger whatsoever."
"Alaesia's gonna marry a troll?" Jimmy exclaimed in shock.
"No, because your mom and dad are gonna save her. Your parents could take on a hundred trolls without breaking a sweat."
"Is Ameaj gonna marry a troll?" Jimmy asked.
"I hope not." Ameaj said.
"Of course not. Not while your Uncle Neshae is here to keep you three safe." Neshae said.
Yehaiel began skipping rocks on the surface of the lake.
"If it makes you feel better," Neshae told him, "when your parents get back, I could take you out into the wilderness and teach you everything I know about fighting and world saving. Provided your parents agree, of course. Sound good?"
Yehaiel shrugged.
"Sounds good." Ameaj answered for him.
For the next half hour, they all had a rock skipping contest. Neshae got first place, having vampire strength and being able to throw rocks farther. Yehaiel was next, and then Ameaj. Jimmy didn't know how to skip rocks yet so he just threw the rocks into the lake. Then they all climbed up the hill to the cottage.
When they went inside, the place was a disaster. The fire in the fireplace was out. Chairs were knocked over. There were holes in the walls as if there had been a fight. There were burn spots as if fire had been thrown. The most important thing was that Rayman and Ly were gone.
"Oh my Polokus!" Ameaj said.
They looked through the other rooms. Not all were in as bad shape as the first one, but Rayman and Ly were nowhere to be found.
"Still think the world's not in danger?" Yehaiel asked Neshae.
"Where's Mommy and Daddy?" Jimmy asked.
"I don't know." Neshae said. "But we can't stay here. The other rooms were a little torn up as well. They were looking for more than just Rayman and Ly. And they might come back here to look some more."
"Maybe they went looking for Alaesia already and the bad guys came here to look for them." Ameaj suggested.
"No." Yehaiel told her. "There are signs of a fight. Whoever it was got Mom and Dad before they left."
"I want Mommy." Jimmy said. To comfort him, Ameaj picked him up.
"Don't worry." Yehaiel said. "We're going to find them."
"Yehaiel..." Ameaj started.
"Don't you see, the world is in danger and the two people most qualified for the position of saving it have been captured. I think it's time we prove to Mom and Dad that we're not kids anymore by rescuing them." Yehaiel argued.
"He's right." Neshae said. "This can't be coincidence. Something is going on and we can't stay here anyway. Those guys could come back for us as well. We gotta go now."
A light shone from the doorway as a yellow lum flew in. The little ball of light circled around the room and went back outside.
Yehaiel followed it, wondering why there was a yellow lum around here. It was supposed to be inside the Heart of the World.
"It's leading us somewhere." Ameaj put Jimmy down and followd Yehaiel. Jimmy and Neshae followed close behind.
Soon eough, they found another yellow lum and the first one disappeared, going back to the Heart.
"You think Mom left a trail of lums for us to follow?" Ameaj asked.
"Your Mom's smart. I'd bet almost anything that's exactly what it is." Neshae said.
"Then lets follow it." Yehaiel said.
Chapter 2
They followed the yellow lums northward long into the night. Each one would disappear and return to the Heart of the World when the next was found.
"Yehaiel, stop." Ameaj said. "It's late. We have to stop and get some sleep."
Yehaiel stopped and turned around. Ameaj leaned against the trunk of a giant tree. Neshae stood next to her, carrying a sleeping Jimmy. Yehaiel realized that he was tired as well.
"Okay." he said and sat on the ground. "We'll sleep. I'll take the first watch."
Ameaj laid down on the ground and was asleep in an instant. Neshae put down Jimmy right next to her.
"You know, if you're tired I can take the first watch." he said.
Yehaiel shook his head.
"I really can." the vampire insisted.
"I don't want to be woken up." Yehaiel said. "I'd rather take the first watch and get it over with."
Neshae shrugged. "Okay." He leaned up against a large tree root and closed his eyes. Though Yehaiel knew he wasn't really asleep. He was fully awake. Night was his time. And Yehaiel was glad for that. If he started to nod off Neshae would know and take the next watch.
And it wasn't very long before exactly that happened.
Yehaiel opened his eyes just as a piece of black cloth was about to go over them.
He sat up and startled the strange creature holding the blindfold. It was a little bigger than a teensie and had a nose almost like one, but not as long. It was covered in a thin layer of brown fur and had ears with several points up their length instead of one point like a fairy's. It eyes seemed completely black, but Yehaiel could make out splotches of blue, green, purple, and red scattered across them. Two clawed hands held the blindfold.
"What the..." Yehaiel started.
The creature gave a yelp and ran off.
"Damn!" Yehaiel stood up. "Wake up everyone!" he shouted and took off after the creature.
He barely kept up with the creature as it disappeared behind one tree after another. It was fast. The forst suddenly ended and so did the ground.
Yehaiel's heart leapt as he skidded to a stop and fell over the edge. He grabbed a tree root sticking out of the dirt. Rocks and dust were flung into the air and crashed to the bottom below. It was a long way down.
"Yehaiel!" Ameaj screamed and ran to the edge. When she saw he hadn't fallen she held out a hand to help him up.
Slowly, he began to ascend. Then with a sudden jerk, he was up. Ameaj had been helped by Neshae. But then Yehaiel was nearly flattened by his little brother as he "leapt to the rescue."
"I'll save you, Yeail!" the boy cried. When he settled down he added, "Are you okay?"
"I don't know." Yehaiel said. "I think you have crushed my organs."
There was a look of terror on Jimmy's face. Ameaj glared at her twin and picked Jimmy up and off of Yehaiel.
"He's just teasing, Jimmy." she said.
"Come on." Yehaiel said when he got to his feet. "It's getting away."
"Where are you going?" Ameaj asked.
"If we follow that creature it might lead us to Mom and Dad."
"We didn't even see where it went. And we have a trail of lums that Mom left for us to follow." Ameaj argued.
"Okay then we can split up. You and Jimmy follow the lums and--"
"We are not splitting up." Neshae said. "For all we know that thing could be leading us into a trap. It did a pretty good jub of leading you off a cliff. We'll continue to follow the lums."
It was a long morning. They continued to follow the lums. Dark clouds hung in the sky, sending the warning of a storm. A rough, chilly wind blew, cooling off the air temperature considerably.
"YYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" came a sudden scream from the trees.
The creature Yehaiel had seen before pounced on Neshae and tied the blindfold on him.
Yehaiel formed a fire ball in his hand and threw it at the creature, surprised at what he had done. He had never tried to use magic before.
The creature was hit in the face. It jumped off of Neshae and rubbed its eyes.
Yehaiel called vines from around the trees to wrap themselves around the creature. Neshae riped the blindfold off his head. THe vines tied the struggling creature to the tree they were from. Neshae's fangs appeared.
"Don't hurt me! I can tell you where they are!" it said.

Hey, dude. How's it goin?
Chapter 3
Neshae's fangs retracted. "Tell us where who are?"
"The captured ones." the creature said. "Fherjal has captured the ones you seek. He needs thirteen. He seeks you next."
"What are you talking about?" Yehaiel asked.
"Fherjal performs a ritual from great book. 'Gather thirteen people and you will be spared.' he says. He tells me who he needs. The ones most able to stop him must be sacrificed. The thirteen strongest."
"They're gonna be sacrificed? Why?" Ameaj asked.
"Don't know." it said. "I just sent to do what I told. Or I will be sacrificed to make spell stronger."
"Where are they?" Yehaiel asked.
"The Blue Mountains." the creature answered. "The caves below them is sacred place for ritual. The ritual that has lasted thousand years.
"There is four keys to one entrance. Only light of first full moons reveals it. Otherwise hidden to newcomers. Master Fherjal has key. I have key. Vampire huntress has key. And witch has key."
"Vampire huntress?" Neshae asked.
"Fherjal's bride to be. She has key. Witch with key is long dead. Killed by Alaesia long ago. And Rayman and Neshae.
"What's he talking about?" Ameaj asked.
"Nevermind." Neshae said. "Why go there when we can take his key?" He looked back at the creature just to find that it was gone.
"What the..." Yehaiel said.
"Looks like we're going there again." Neshae said in an irritated way. "I'm never gonna completely escape that place." He changed direction. "Come on. We have to go this way to find Helm Mountain again."
Chapter 4
Rayman opened his eyes. He was trapped inside what appeared to be a force field hovering over the ground. In force fields around him were Ly, Alaesia, Dorithmir, Fhuyt, and a few others he didn't recognize. They were in a large cavern. The room was nearly emty except for a table, a man, and a woman.
The man had gray hair that was neatly cut and a white, sacrificial robe on. He had his back turned to Rayman, reading some sort of spell book on the table.
This doesn't look good. Rayman thought.
The woman was fair skinned as if she wasn't in the sun often. Her black hair was tied in a braid that lay on the floor where she sat. Her eyes were blood red and filled with pain. And her clothing seemed to be made of black patches of different material. Black boots were laced up the sides to her knees.
The woman glanced at Rayman. "They're all awake." she said.
The man turned around. "So they are." He said. "I suppose you're all wondering why you're here. I am performing a ritual. It is a very long one and almost completely forgotten. In fact, I have spent one thousand years performing it, keeping myself alive by mutating red lums to give me strength as well as energy.
"But the ritual is almost completed. I need thirteen sacrifices. I have nine so far. When I find this one's brother and children," he pointed at Rayman, "I will have them all. I did a second spell to determine which thirteen people would be most likely to stop me. Why? Simply because I wish to gain immortality and invincibility. If I can get those two things, then I can take over the entire universe and all its worlds. But for now, you must all sleep some more. Can't have you trying to escape."
Rayman immediately lost consciousness, his heart pounding with rage.
Helm Mountain was more of a rock than a mountain. It was over ten feet tall. A boulder was moved to the side of the entrance to a cave, which had been the tomb of Kweniah, a legendary hero.
Next to Helm was a hole twenty feet across. The veil spell that was once on it was no longer there so they could see the cottage at the bottom. And for the first time that Neshae had ever seen, Helm's shadow followed the shadows of the trees in the light of the moons.
A witch named Figuya had lived in that house. Kweniah had been her husband and through her own misery, she had made this lair for herself and put a veil spell on it. Helm's shadow had always been over that hole no matter what time of day it was. And there was darkness in the hole that did not allow them to see inside it. Not only that, but she had to teleport them down there. They could not just climb down.
But when the witch tried to bing her husband back from the dead and take over the world, Rayman, Alaesia, and Neshae had stopped her. She was dead now. Her spells were all broken.
Neshae picked up Jimmy and flew down to the bottom of the hole while Yehaiel and Ameaj climbed down.
When they reached the house, Neshae turned around and looked out the hole uneasily.
"You three go in and search for the keys. I'll make sure nothing comes in." He said.
As if they could sense his uneasiness, they obeyed without argument, even Yehaiel. Neshae looked up at the moons. They were almost full. The full moons were approaching. Time was running out.
"How are we gonna find anything in here?" Ameaj asked. She looked from room to room. "There isn't anything in here."
She was right. Every room seemed completely empty. Then they reached the final door at the end of the hall. There was a spooky feeling around it, warning them to stay away, but provoking their curiosity and calling them to it.
Yehaiel jiggled the door knob. "It's locked." He looked into the key hole under it and saw nothing but blackness.
"Back up." Ameaj told him. "I want to try something."
Her brothers obeyed. Ameaj wound up her fist like her father had done so many times before and shot it at the door.
Wood splintered on the pane around the knob. Ameaj wound up her fist again and hit the door. Pieces of wood flew off, but the door was still closed. One more try and the pane shattered and the door swung open. Darkness lay beyond.
Yehaiel created another fire ball. The light didn't seem to penetrate the darkness inside the room.
"Kind of eery, huh?" Yehaiel said.
"Come in, children." said a female voice, making the three jump. Jimmy grabbed Ameaj's hand.
"What's wrong?" the voice asked. "Do you not wish to find what you seek?"
"Come on." Yehaiel said. "We gotta find that key." He stepped inside. Ameaj and Jimmy reluctantly followed.
The door slammed shut. Jimmy cried out and pulled on the doorknob, but magic held it in place. Ameaj picked him up to calm him down.
"The two sons and one daughter of one of the three who have slain me. What has possessed such three to venture within my lair?" the voice asked.
"Our parents have been captured." Yehaiel said. "We need the copy of the key you gave Fherjal."
"Why should I help you?" the voice asked. "I would find it much more entertaining to capture the three of you and your uncle outside and trade you to Fherjal. He'll give me and my husband life once more and the land will be clean of your father's seed forever."
"He only did what was right." Yehaiel said. "Although it was pretty harsh. You were just misunderstood."
"How so?" the voice asked curiously.
"My father told me the story of his battle with you. All you wanted was for you and your husband to be together and rule somewhere." Yehaiel explained. "If we defeat this villain, wouldn't his spell book have a spell to create worlds? It seems to be full of forgotten spells to me.
"If we get that book then I will create a world for you and Kweniah to rule together. All I need from you is the key to get inside his lair."
"I like the sound of your deal, boy." the voice said. "Here is your key." a wooden chest appeared in the light of Yehaiel's fire ball. "Have fun." the voice laughed and faded away and the door behind them reopened.
Yehaiel opened the wooden chest. It ws full of keys of all shapes and sizes.
"Well, this is just great." Ameaj said. "Now what do we do?"
Yehaiel pulled some fishing line out of his pants pocket. "We take them all and see which one fits."
Chapter 5
Neshae had just begin to doze off when a loud buzzing filled the air, snapping him awake.
Giant bugs began to fly in the hole. There were six of them, all just bigger than Neshae. They looked similar to a praying mantice, but had ten legs. Their wings still stuck out when they landed. Their eyes were just like the eyes of the creature that had tried to capture Neshae earlier.
Neshae's fangs came out and he drew his father's sword. The fire blade came out of the hilt, making a weapon few could use.
Yehaiel, Ameaj, and Jimmy came out of the witch's house in that instant. Neshae looked their way. "Go back inside!" he said.
Yehaiel frowned and created a ball of fire in his hand. He handed the bundle of keys to Jimmy, who ran back in the house once Ameaj put him down. Ameaj wound up her fist.
There were two bugs for each person. Yehaiel threw his fire ball at one of them. It screamed and stumbled in the air a bit, but the other managed to get close enough to grab his arm. He punched at it, feeling his feet lift off the ground.
Ameaj shot her fist at one of the bugs. It ducked and she dove to the side as they both came down on her. When her fist returned, she shot it again.
Neshae sliced a leg off the first bug and a wing of the second. Then he saw Yehaiel being lifted off the ground. He jumped into the air and sliced the bug in half, only to be captured by his own two bugs.
Yehaiel fel to the ground and landed on his feet. The first bug was upon him again as the two halves of the second landed on the ground next to him. He kicked the bug in its compound eye, knocking the eye out. He winced in a cross of sympathy and disgust as the eye rolled across the dirt.
Ameaj wound up her fist and shot the first bug, sending it smacking against the wall of the hole. The exoskeleton burst and its insides leaked out like a bug on a windsheild.
Neshae struggled as the two bugs tried to carry him off. He sent his sword into one, killing it. Then he flapped his wings to startle the second bug. It let go and he began to battle it in the air.
Yehaiel ducked as the enraged bug sent a clawed limb at him. He leaned back, putting his hands on the ground. He put all his wieght on his hands and sent up his feet to kick the bug in the head. The head rolled off next to the eye.
The second bug grabbed Ameaj and flew into the air with her. Even though it was out of character for her to scream, she instinctively did so. It was low, creating more of a vibration than a sound. The vibration sent the bug's wings wild and it crashed to the ground. One more punch from Ameaj and it was splattered on the wall next to its friend.
It didn't take much for Neshae to beat the last bug in the air. It came at him stupidly and he sliced it in half with his sword. Then he flew down and landed with his neice and nephews.
"That was amazing!" Yehaiel said.
"I can't believe we can actually do these things like Mom and Dad did." Ameaj said.
"You inherited their powers, that's all. You can celebrate later." Neshae said, giving them both a proud look. "More of those things might come. We'd better stay the night in the house."
"I actually kid of hope more do come." Yehaiel said, following his uncle and sister back inside. "I want to find out all I can do."
"You'll find out soon enough." Neshae promised. "If there's one thing I've learned about saving the world, it's that the bad guys are always tougher than the henchmen."
They went back in the house and found Jimmy huddled in a corner in one of the other rooms. Once they calmed him down they went to sleep.

Chapter 6
Although Neshae hated being awake in the early hours of the morning, he forced himself awake at sinrise and woke up the kids. Then they prepeared for their journey to the northern mountains.
It was not long before they were faced with what appeared to be a giant cage with arms and legs. The bars were colored in the same black, red, green, blue, and purple as they eyes of everything else. Definatley one of Fherjal's henchmen.
"Oh, come on now!" Neshae said. "This is just plain unimaginative. The best looking creation so far was that furry thing."
Neshae, well known for his insanity, said the one thing that angered the cage into springing into action. The bottoms of the bars suddenly detatched themselves and shot out at the four like tantacles.
"Woah!" Yehaiel said as they all ducked. The tentacles pulled back and waved back and forth as if planning their next move.
"Back up, kids." Neshae said. For once, they listened, backing out of the range of the tentacles.
Neshae drew his sword and the tentacles shot at him. He didn't struggle as they wrapped around him and carried him inside, trapping him in the cage. Once inside, Neshae swung his sword in a circle, cutting all the bars. There was a noise like metal scraping against metal which Neshae guessed was the monster screaming. A vertical circle and the cage monster was in four pieces. It ceased moving and all four pieces fell to the ground.
"That was cool." Ameaj said as they were reunited.
Neshae glanced at the ring of keys Yehaiel carried with him, seeing it for the first time. "I thought you said you found the key."
"The witch gave us all these saying the right one was in it. We don't have time to try to figure it out. We have to do that when we know where the door is." Yehaiel explained.
"The witch? You mean Figuya?" Neshae asked.
Yehaiel sighed. He had forgotten to tell Neshae about last night. He began the tale and they continued walking.
"That's a pretty crazy promise to make." Neshae said. "You did inherit insanity. I'm so proud."
Yehaiel tried not to laugh. "I did what I had to do to get the key."
"You get that from your dad. Though you seem to have a darker side to yourself like me." Neshae scratched the back of his head. "I'm not quite sure your dad would have gone as far as you did."
Yehaiel smiled and his stomach growled. How long had it been since they had eaten?
He decided to try out more of his powers. He looked up in a tree and saw blossoms on it branches. Later in the year, they would fall and fruit would take their place. But Yehaiel could not wait that long.
He put a hand on the trunk of the tree and concentrated. Something hit his head.
"Ow!" he cried out in surprise and looked up. Every blossom had turned into a fruit. One had fallen from the tree and hit him.
More fruit started falling. In a moment, all the fruit in the tree had fallen and created a pile around the four.
"Now that's something I've never seen even your mother do." Neshae said impressed. He picked up a fruit and bit into it.
When everyone had their fill of the fruit they continued on northward.
Fherjal pounded a fist on the table with frustration. They had overcome everything he had sent after them. And that one was proving to be even more powerful than Ly. They were all learning their powers fast. A little more time and they would be too strong.
He glanced at his bride to be, standing next to him and reading a book. THere was one tactic he hadn't tried yet. Together, they were strong, but if they were separated he could take them easily.
The sun was setting in the distance as the four came across the northern mountains. It was a huge mountain range that stretched on for miles.
"This could take a while." Yehaiel said.
"We don't have a while." Neshae said. "We've got maybe an hour after the full moons rise to find this door. And that's coming pretty soon."
"So what's the plan?" Ameaj asked.
Neshae seemed to hesitate for a moment. "Will you three be all right if I leave? We'll never find this door if we walk."
"No problem." Yehaiel said.
Neshae sighed. "Okay. I'll find the door when night comes. You three stay here."
Chapter 7
Night came as the last rays of sun died between the peaks of the mountains and the two moons, full in all their glory, appeared between the trees.
"Okay." Neshae said. "This is where the fun begins. You three stay here. I'll be back."
Yehaiel, Ameaj, and Jimmy nodded. THen they watched as their uncle turned and flew off into the night sky.
"I'm getting a weird feeling." Ameaj said. "Hide the keys."
"Why?" Yehaiel asked.
"Just do it."
Yehaiel jumped into a tree and hung the keys on a branch. Then he jumped down.
"Happy?"
"I still have that bad feeling. There aren't many positive emotions going on right now." Ameaj answered.
Jimmy suddenly looked in one direction. Ameaj and Yehaiel followed his gaze, hoping it was their uncle returning after finding the door.
A net shot out at them. They struggled to get free, but the ends had twisted around to prevent any escape.
"Master Fherjal will be pleased." A familiar voice said as a familiar, furry creature stepped out from the trees.
"You again!" Yehaiel said. He tried to make a fire ball, but discovered that he could not use his powers.
"Magic cloth keeps powers away." the creature said as it began to drag the net northward. "Easy to make blindfolds, but nets catch easier."
At a speed that amazed Yehaiel, the creature carried them northward to the mountains.
Neshae flew around the base of the mountains. Finally, he spotted a door shimmering silver in the moonlight. Now he knew where the door was. All that was left to do was find the kids and get in. Then they would rescue Rayman and the others.
He reached the forest and landed. Something was wrong. He could feel it. He looked around where he left the kids to find they were gone.
"Yehaiel!" he called. "Ameaj! Jimmy!" There was no answer. They had been taken.
He looked around, hoping he was wrong. Up in a tree, he saw the ring of keys. He climbed up the tree and retrieved them. He would have to rescue everyone now.
"What are you doing?" asked a female voice.
"Yehaiel turned his head to see the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her hair was black and reached the ground. Her pale face contrasted with her black clothing, which was made of patches of different cloth sewn together. Black boots were laced up the sides all the way to her knees.
"Jomeiah!" the creature cried out in surprise. "I caught the ones to be sacrificed."
"You forgot one." Jomeiah said. "You should be punished."
"You can't do anything to me! Master Fherjal's orders!"
"Who would he believe?" Jomeiah kicked the creature into the wall, knocking him out.
The woman knelt down and untied the net. The kids climbed out and got to their feet.
"Why did you help us?" Yehaiel asked suspiciously.
"A simple 'thank you' would be satisfactory." she said. "Now come on." She started in the direction they had come from.
Pulling a key out of one of her boots, Jomeiah unlocked the door and opened it.
"You've got a key!" Ameaj exclaimed. You're Fherjal's bride to be!"
"I was never his bride to be!" Jomeiah snapped, her voice filled with pain and anger. "He just thinks I am because he saved my life. I don't want to help him and I never did. My debt is paid and I'm ired of taking orders from him."
They followed her outside. Yehaiel apoke again. "My uncle told me a story about a woman he fell in love with named Jomeiah."
"Tell me the tale." Jomeiah said as they stopped.
Chapter 8
"He told me about a woman, the most beautiful he had ever seen. She was the one who bit him. And right when he fell in love with her, he was betrayed by a friend named Yaashi."
There was a pain in Jomeiah's eyes when Yehaiel mentioned the name. "It was Yaashi that betrayed us?"
Yehaiel nodded. "Yaashi told him that he and she were running and a vampire hunter threw a knife in her back, killing her."
"What happened to Yaashi?" Jomeiah asked.
"He tried to lead my uncle into a trap. But with the help of a sorcerer, he escaped and they fought. In the end, he killed both Yaashi and the hunter."
"What is the name of your uncle?" Jomeiah asked.
"Neshae." Yehaiel answered.
Jomeiah smiled for the first time that the kids had seen. "So he did go back to his old name after all." When she saw their looks of confusion she added, "That was a hard time for him and he thought changing his name might fix things or at least numb the pain. I'm glad he was brought back to his senses."
"It's your turn for stories." Yehaiel said. "All this time everyone thought you were dead. What happened?"
Jomeiah sighed. "It was true that Yaashi and I were running from the hunters. There were just too many. We got separated from the rest of the group and eventually, from each other. When I finally found him again he told me he had seen Moajei kill Neshae.
"Later on rumors went around. The only true fact was that Moajei was dead and his fortress burned to the ground. Some said that Moajei and Yaashi were killed by an unknown vampire. Some said that the unknown vampire had betrayed us and Yaashi and Moajei killed each other. And there;s a version of that last one where Yaashi survived and Moajei didn't.
"Fherjal found me years later in a tight situation. He saved me and asked me to marry him later. I accepted, thinking this was the best I could get since Neshae was dead. I had grown fond of Neshae as a child and by that time he would have been much older. Something always tugged at me though, saying he was still alive.
"But now that I know that Neshae is still alive, I have seen through Fherjal and discovered what a worm he really is. I won't let him sacrifice a child. I'm going to help you rescue your parents. Just reunite me with Neshae."
"If we can find him we'll do that." Ameaj said.
Neshae found the key that opened the door and went inside the cave. It wasn't long before he found the furry creature that had tried to capture them earlier.
Neshae grabbed the creature by the neck and pinned him against the wall. "Where are they?"
"Who?" the creature asked.
"You know who."
It gave a nervous laugh. "That's actually a very funny story. I don't really know where..."
Neshae gave a sarcastic laugh. "That is a funny story. Now listen to me! I may be crazy, but I'm not a moron! Now tell me where you've taken them!"
"Put him down. There is no need for such violonce."
Neshae dropped the creature and turned around to see the source of the new voice. A man stood behind him. His hair was neatly cut and gray. He wore a white, sacrificial robe. Neshae guessed this was Fherjal.
"Where are the kids?" Neshae asked, his fangs coming out.
"They are fine." Fherjal answered.
"Don't make me go crazy here because I will kick your ass! I am not in the mood for what you're pulling here. I'll ask one more time. Where are th--"
"I told you they're fine. I don't know where they are. I do not have them yet. And I don't think it will be you defeating me, because I am the most powerful here." Fherjal said.
Neshae drew his sword and smiled, loving the idea of fighting this man. "Give it your best shot."
Fherjal sighed, lowered his head, and shook it. "Primitive, always going to violence." He held an arm out at Neshae and everything went black.

Re: Fan Fic - Heirs to the Throne
Yeah, it's been a while since I've been on the internet at all, actually. Anyway, here's the last couple chapters of that fan fic.
Chapter 9
Jomeiah led the kids back into the danger of the mountain. They were about to have the fight of their lives. The twins' hearts pounded with excitement while Jimmy held Jomeiah's hand. They were almost there.
Jomeiah pushed open a door and they entered a huge, cavernous room. A man with gray hair and a white sacrificial robe stood over a table with a book. Up in the air were force fields that held prisoner Rayman, Ly, Neshae, Alaesia, Dorithmir, Fhuyt, and a few others the children didn't recognoze. There were only three left to sacrifice to the spell. Ad they had just walked right in the door.
"Well done." the man said. "You led them right to me."
"I will not help you." said a voice familiar to Neshae.
It can't be... he thought. He opened his eyes and saw the one woman had had ever loved. She was the one who had bitten him, driven him insane, and taught him how to survive as a vampire. It was Jomeiah. She was not dead.
"Jomeiah..." he managed to say before he blacked out again.
"It was bad enough when you wanted to sacrifice thirteen people for your own selfish reasons, but you are wanting to sacrifice children! I'm not gonna let you do it." Jomeiah said.
"Don't forget our deal." Fherjal said. "I saved your life, remember? You are to be my queen when the universe is mine."
"You can't guilt me with this one. I would sooner die than help you murder a child."
"So be it." Fherjal began speaking words in some other language. The ground shook and the rock from the floor rose and formed ten creatures. Some were humanoid-like in appearence, some with four or more legs, and some with tentacles.
Jimmy cried out and ran off into the shadows. Yehaiel concentrated on making a stone army of his own. Twelve creatures rose out of the rock floor as most of Yehaiel's energy was spent in the spell. He stumbled a bit and Jomeiah and Ameaj caught him, helping him catch his balance.
"You okay?" Ameaj asked.
"Yeah." Yehaiel said and stepped away from them. He created a fire ball in his hand. "Let's do this."
Jomeiah pulled a knife out of her boot. "This ends now." She ran around the war of rocks and stabbed at Fherjal. Yehaiel was right behind her, both hands aflame. And Ameaj came up next, winding up a fist.
Fherjal dodged Jomeiah's knife and tried to kick her aside. She grabbed his leg and threw him over her shoulder. He put up a shield around himself as Yehaiel's fire came at him. Ameaj wound down her fist, knowing it wouldn't do any good.
"Now what?" Ameaj asked.
"You surrender." Fherjal said. "My power can withstand anything you have. You can't beat me." He reached out his hands and the two with necks felt them being squeezed while Ameaj just couldn't breathe. "You will be the first to be sacrificed."
There was a distant voice over the commotion of the stone war. It was Jimmy's voice. He spoke slowly and in another language, as if he were trying to read something.
The spell book! Yehaiel realized. Jimmy was reading something in the spell book. Hopefully it was something that could save them.
The magical hold on the three released and they gasped for air. Fherjal turned his attention to see Jimmy reading his book and held out a hand to stop him.
"No!" Yehaiel cried out and leapt at Fherjal, taking him by surprise and buying the child more time.
The two wrestled for a moment and Fherjal pinned Yehaiel to the ground. He pulled a knife out of his robe.
"You will not stop me!" he said as he raised the knife for the final strike.
The force fields around everyone vanished, taking Fherjal by surprise. He recovered and thrust the knife down to Yehaiel's chest and his hand was caught in mid air by Jomeiah.
"It's over." she said. "Everyone's free. You've lost."
Fherjal stood up and the fight really began as everyone began to fight him. Except for Yehaiel.
He took the book in his hands. He knew that once the fight was over, he wouldn't be able to do this. He searched the pages for the spell he sought. And he found it.
He read the runes of power and could feel strong magic building. When the last word was spoken, a gold light shone from the pages of the book and the whole thing disintegrated in his hands.
"Yehaiel!" his mother's voice called. He turned around and saw that everyone was shooting blasts of power or whatever they had at Fherjal. He kept up his sheild, making all their blows bounce harmlessly off.
Yehaiel started shooting his fire at Fherjal's sheild. He understood the plan. If they could keep throwing stuff at Fherjal, it would weaken him so that he was forced to remove it.
Finally, the shield vanished and Fherjal stumbled dizzily.
"Must...save...myself." he panted and created a portal in the floor. He fell inside and the portal closed.
"Great, he got away." Yehaiel said.
"You obviously don't know where that portal goes." Ly smiled. "Come on. Let's go home."
Chapter 10
Fhuyt opened theportals to everyone's worlds and soon, only Yehaiel, Ameaj, Jimmy, Rayman, Ly, Neshae, and Jomeiah were left in the room.
"You're alive!" Neshae exclaimed when he saw Jomeiah.
"And you have grown up since I last saw you." Jomeiah said. "Let's not spend any more time apart."
THe two left the room so that Jimmy would not see what they were about to do next.
"Can't that wait until we get out of here?" Rayman called after them. His gaze turned to his kids. He hugged them. "I'm so proud of you three."
Yehaiel beamed with pride as he hugged his father back That was the one thing he wanted to hear. He had saved the world. He was a hero like his dad.
Figuya's eyes opened. She was in her body once again, as young and beautiful as ever. Her own, curly, black hair contrasted with the sandy colored hair of the man laying next to her on the bed.
They were inside a castle. Figuya got out of the bed and crossed the room to the window. A crowd of people in the courtyard cheered. This was a newly created world where she and her husband ruled. The boy had kept his promise.
"Thank you, Yehaiel." she said and said a blessing for many more adventures to come his way.
Fherjal stumbled into a new world. He had created a random portal just to escape the heroes. He looked around.
A thousand white rabbits surrounded him. His nerves calmed a little. No immediate danger.
Every bunny suddenly weilded a plunder and screamed. That was the last thing Fherjal saw.
The End

Re: Fan Fic - Heirs to the Throne
Nice ending.
Re: Fan Fic - Heirs to the Throne
It's a great story, Neshae
If I were to nitpick, I could say the chapters are a bit short, but that's definitely not important at all.
