Rayman 1 GBC is a non canon game to the main series. It doesn't matter if if he died or not according to you. He did in the Handheld continuity but not in the main continuity. So nobody really cares about Mr. Dark in the GBC game.

It's not like we hate him or something it's just actually the opposite what we need, because I'm involved in a fangeme and we will put Raymans world in that game, with R1-2 and 3 levels characters and enemies, so we will include Mr. Dark,so he's allive in our game, so we can't follow the GBC versions storyline, not like we wanted to, I'm just saying, that's all.

Who cares about the GBC version? It's just a mix between R1 and R2. He escaped in the true R1.
