Well, you know the black caterpillars? Like that, only red, and his face is like those flying black things. When you hit him, a segment comes off and is a red flying thing, and when you hit that, 4 black ones come out.

Are you sure Chenille is a male? Because i've allways thought of Chenille as some kind of queen to the shadow worms (that's what i call them ). Like ants. Just a theory, though.

Actually, you're probably right, i just tend to write 'he' unless it's obviously a female. They're called chenilles though. Whihc is french for caterpillar.

There are lots of catterpillars in e.g. The Cave of Bad Dreams and I called them in Polish simply "larvae".

Differences:
1. Caterpillars aren't black. Some caterpillars can be dark colored, but not black.
2. Caterpillars have small legs.
3. Caterpillars can't jump or move like snakes.
4. As you pointed out, caterpillars aren't made out of "black things".
5. Caterpillars doesn't disappear after getting hit once.
6. Caterpillars have a different shape. The creatures in R2 are shaped more like snakes.

Boss Chenille is obviously the Boss of the Chenilles. Duh. Chenille is French for caterpillar. And some of the versions of the R2 manual tal about multiplication of caterpillars due to the pirates or something.

So they are absolutely definitely caterpillars.

Pity we don't see any Papillons!

Doubt it.

Anyway, the mini Chenilles seem to regenerate when Rayman is close to their source. Even if Rayman kills them, more somehow emerge from the spikey vines.

I think that Chenille was suppose to be a regular enemy in Rayman Revolution, (I saw one along with a regular Shadow Caterpillar in the trailer of the game) but they decided to make it a boss.

They were deformed by the heart exploding.

Not really. They're not long and slender like snakes, their fat like caterpillars.
And the R2 PS1 manuel makes specific reference to pheneomena such as the 'giant caterpillars', if I remember correctly. They are definitely caterpillars.

Caterpillars are larvae. Butterfly larvae, to be precise. I think those really little Chenilles must be newborns, fresh from their eggs.(eggs lain by Papillons )

They don't sound anything like mosquitoes to me. And they don't look anything like mosquitoes, no wings, no big round eyes, no proboscis. And there are already mosquitoes in R2 that look different.
