Re: Play 800 NES games
But it's more the actual emulation on PS3 than the NES games themselves that I like...
Re: Play 800 NES games
Well, you could always don't upgrade your firmware at all.

Re: Play 800 NES games
I'm not going to.
Unless they add a good new feature, in which case I will abandon NES games.
Re: Play 800 NES games
Or you could always get the new firmware and get a crack...

Re: Play 800 NES games
Cracks are kind of non-existant for PS3 as of yet...if hackers manage to decrypt the firmware, they will be able to make their own versions of it, like they did with the PSP. PS3 with custom firmware would be amazing, they could probably emulate everything up as far as the Wii, maybe, and they could create an ISOloader, but that would effectively reduce PS3 game developers' profits to zero, then there would be no more games...a mixed blessing indeed...
Re: Play 800 NES games
As far as Wii goes, you need 10x the power to emulate something good (Like PS2 emulating on a Pentium 3), the PS3 is not powerfull enough to emulate it excellent, same for Xbox 360.

Re: Play 800 NES games
The PS3 could certainly emulate the Wii. Maybe not at full speeds, but probably at playable speeds. And the PS3, while much more powerful than the 360, is nowhere near 10 times as powerful, so the PS3 could probably only emulate the 360 at about 0.001 fps!
Re: Play 800 NES games
The PS3 has a 7-core processor and the 360 a 3 core, so that won't work. The Wii uses an IBM Broadway processor, that is a 1-core CPU, so the PS3 is about 7 times as fast. It might be playable, but not at full speed, that is to bad, or else i would buy a PlayStation 3.

Re: Play 800 NES games
If you like emulators, get a PSP and install custom firmware. The amount of emulators and homebrew for that device are simply amazing. NES, SNES, GB, GBC, GBA, PS1, Saturn, MAME, DC, N64...
Re: Play 800 NES games
Iprefer my good old laptop for emulating consoles

But a PSP fits in you pocket
Re: Play 800 NES games
When i'm out i mostly don't game. And if i wan't to, the GBA backwards compatibility of my Nintendo DS is enough

That's not the way it works, you know.Joshua822 wrote:The PS3 has a 7-core processor and the 360 a 3 core, so that won't work. Oh, and it's bullshit that the PS3 is much more powerful than the Xbox 360. It theoretically has more processing power, but nobody can utilize it's full power yet.

No sense at all.Joshua822 wrote:The PS3 has a 7-core processor and the 360 a 3 core, so that won't work. 1) Frequency. Frequency is more than multithreading, especially in emulation.
2) SPUs acts as 1 thread, CPUs as two. So: PS3 has 2 normal threads and 7 anormal, X360 - 6 normal, Wii... unknown, probably one or two normal.
3) Another op-codes.

Which is why we've only seen 20% of its power. When you see it at 100%, you will be thoroughly 0wned.Tobbe7 wrote:nobody can utilize it's full power yet.

You shut up.
Re: Play 800 NES games
Well, some guy on the ubuntu-nl forums told me this. He explained it well so i thought he was right. I'll read something about hardware emulation in the future before going to argue
Re: Play 800 NES games
Well, it was the same case in the Sega Saturn. The Sega Saturn was technically 4 times more powerful than the PSX, but due to the complexity of it, no one was able to fully utilize that.Tobbe7 wrote:That's not the way it works, you know.Joshua822 wrote:The PS3 has a 7-core processor and the 360 a 3 core, so that won't work.
