Your favourite Rayman game on GameBoy
I was just wondering what people think is the best of Rayman's games on the Gameboy systems, or just the one they like most.
For me, it's between Rayman Advance and Rayman 3. I can't really decide, but the Rayman 10th Anniversary compilation for GBA with those two games was what made me a Rayman fan. I had played Rayman 1 and 3 before (and maybe 2) but I never owned them before.
Yes I am aware that Rayman Advance has worse sound quality and is missing a lot of tracks but for a portable version of the best 2D platformer of all time, it does the job.

I picked Rayman 3 because well, it had such nice graphics and it felt like all 3 major games rolled into one.

I voted for Rayman Advance. I like the characters and the worlds more

Voted for R3. It was really solid game. Anyway, only R2 for GBC isn't good, all the others are... dusted diamonds. Diamonds, but dusted.

R3 GBA for sure. It played like a good 2D version of R2, unlike the GBC version. A pity they tried to make it R3-ish by adding in a couple of black lums here and there and leaving out the four masks plotline.
I think it should have had R1 characters.

Wasn't it originally going to be a GBA version of Rayman 2? That would explain why there's only a few Rayman 3 elements (I can only think of Hoodlums and Black Lums).spiraldoor wrote:R3 GBA for sure. I do love that game. It's awesome how it plays like Rayman 1 but the story is a mix of Rayman 2 and 3.
I still can't decide from Rayman Advance or Rayman 3 but thanks to the 10th Anniversary pack I can play both..

Teehee, Rayman Advance was featured in Eastenders or some soap once.

Re: Your favourite Rayman game on GameBoy
Probably Rayman 3 over Rayman: Hoodlums' Revenge. Hoodlums' Revenge felt pretty awkward, even as an isometric game, while Rayman 3 I thought was a lot of fun (which is a rarity among the loads of "me-too", un-fun games on the system).

What do you mean by 'me-too' games? I think I have an idea though.
Although I haven't beaten Hoodlums' Revenge yet (I don't even feel like playing it), I would definitely have to agree with you. I feel that it gets boring, it's difficult to judge where you are jumping to (causing a lot of bouncing-on-water deaths) and the combat is frustrating. Even locking on to the enemy can be a nightmare.
I do like it though, just that there's some major problems and the fact that it's inferior to Rayman 3 in every way.

Rayman 3 for me. I've played that game countless times with 100% on each time- I just loved it so much <3
The graphics are well done aswell, especially for it's age.

Re: Your favourite Rayman game on GameBoy
Rayman 3 just has that magic Rayman feel to it. I feel that, while it has the remixed Rayman 2 music and all, Hoodlums' Revenge doesn't have that. But I think Rayman 3 can get repetitive. However, nowhere near as repetitive/boring as Revenge.

I can't decide between Rayman Advance and Rayman 3 GBA... The first Rayman is indeed much better, but the port wasn't so great, with pixelated items and weird music.

Rayman Advance just seems kind of pointless to me. I could download it right now, but it has nothing at all new that wasn't in the PS1 version, so why bother?

Re: Your favourite Rayman game on GameBoy
I know that the reason it looked quite bad compared to the originals, was because when they tried to port the graphics it came out too dark and they had to repaint it or something. With the music, well, fuck knows what went wrong though it wasn't the only launch game with shitty audio [Pocket Music springs to mind].

The darkness wouldn't have been a problem if the GBA had backlight, would it?
