Bump for an update. I have recorded the intro, and I'll record gameplay soon. If you want a video of the intro (yes, sound included), I can upload it to youtube.

Nice. I'd like to see it! ^^

And woah, you managed to record it without any slowdowns? That's great! Which program did you use?

I found a program by the name of BSR Screen Recorder 4. Turns out to be very handy. :)

I'm uploading now.

It's still processing, but it is uploaded.

*edit #2*

Okay, it's working now, and it's put up on the front page. :D

Some time running between now and Sunday (I promise, for reals). I'm probably going to play through the entire first area (since I have a video recorder with no time limit). I figure it's not much of a spoiler doing that, since, you know, it's actually the first area you see in the demo from way back.

*edit*

I don't know if I'll make that deadline now, but we'll see... I think I want to do more than that.

Right now, I'm working on maybe making my pirates that only patrol and slash (as oppose to patrol and fire when they see you) a different sprite... someone with two swords or hooks. :D

This isn't much of an update, but I got a sprite-based font going. The font looked too blurry on full screen mode. Took me hours to make it. :\ lol Old on the right, new on the left.

Don't worry, I am getting a lot done. I just love messing with details now and then.

I installed VB.NET and I made a dialog builder app. With courtesy of Hoodcom, this is something he sent to me (encrypted with it), and then I added a line.

I will get it eventually. XD I'm just going to make a giant gameplay video, combining a bunch of the areas into a long trailer of sorts. When you see it, you'll know the game is just final touches away from release, since I'm not releasing another demo in all honesty.

I do need artists still though too... hmmm...

Sorry I don't say or post much these days, but I kind of have a life away from the computer these days. :tssk:

Hello.

I know I'm still few and far-between with news, but that's just because I'm so busy with the game and life together, and I don't really take the time to talk with people much these days. :( Anyway, I've been busy doing more engine tweeks, and I decided to take a little screenshot of it because I'm so proud of it. I'll take more screenshots soon, really this time. I'm just embarrassed because I don't want to take screenshots with little place-holding masking sprites everywhere. :( Plus, well, in terms of forums and MSN these days, I'm trying to avoid being like John Romero: posting on forums more than I work on my game. Though, I am guilty of playing a lot of Team Fortress 2 and Hitman right now. :tssk:

You can now grab any ledge of any platform, flawlessly, moving or not; solid or not.
Image
Phoenixan never gets stuck on a platform.

He never falls through a platform he isn't supposed to.

Platforms may collapse beneath your feet, and when they fall, you fall, even if you're grabbing the edge of it.
Image
A pirate may shoot you in the face with a rocket, and you'll fly backwards into an exploding barrel by chance.
Image
I certainly do love to make things explode.
Image
The pirates are really good fighters actually. They only shoot at you when they see you, and if you shoot them in the back without killing them, they'll turn around and fire. They also slash you with their hook if you get too close.
Image

By the way, I'm still very desperate for good artists, actually.

But yeah, 100% custom engine these days, lighting and all. Working great at 60 FPS, tested on old machines as well. Works great. :D Interestingly enough, the project file for this game is still smaller than the whole last demo of so many years ago, but external files help speed things up and reduce file sizes.

That looks really awesome! :D
I'd love to help you with the sprites, but I've tried that once and I don't think it fitted your style, and it definitely wasn't as good as your own sprites... I'm not very good at pixel art. :P
I really hope you find the artists you need... :)

You need spritahz mah boi?
I'll get you some castlevania sprites

EDIT: here they are
You can look around in that site for more sprites (these are enemy sprites, but they have nothing to do with rayman so it would only be good in an area like the Tomb of the ancients)

He wants people who can make sprites.
Besides, the Spriters Resource is better.

Right now, just characters and environmental stuff. :)

You know, plants, trees, random thing-a-ma-bobbers to make the game seem more populated and alive.

Kelvin already made a bird and a frog for me, and those really helped out. :)

Even if there are things I'd have to adjust the colors for, it'd partially help me out with time.

Right now, I'm using Graphics Gale, which is making the character art tons faster for me though, when before, I used Paint for everything. XD
