Rayman Time Attack

Post by Fat_Mario »

Oh my first Rayman Topic!

OK I make special challenge to you! Let's measure your time in Rayman levels by stopwatch (of course without Rayman Arena, because your time is in records and RRR on GBA, because it is the time attack mode in it).
We measure:
-all parts of one level in Rayman 1 as one time
-all parts of one level in Rayman 2 as one time
-only one part in one wolrd in Rayman 3 as one time (one part ends with 5 stars)
-all parts of one level in Rayman 3 on GBA/Rayman Hoodlum's Revenge and others as one time.

The time it takes to finish the game? Or specific parts?

I think he means racing through specific levels, not a run through the whole game.

I thought about that once too, like measuring the time with a stopwatch when playing a Rayman 2 level. It occured to me that there are actually several levels that can be completed within five minutes. But I never actually tried that out, I think I don't have a stopwatch anymore either... not sure about that though.

Anyway, I also did some other contest to myself in Rayman M. I went to the multiplayer part in that game, then selected three computer opponents, the longest round time and lowest difficulty for example, and went to do the mode where you have to find lums in the level (I forgot the name of the mode), then wrote down how many lums I got in each level, and tried it again to see if I could improve. I remember having a LOT of fun doing that, and in some levels I actually managed to get over 70 lums or so, in the longest round time setting. It depends on some luck too of course, but still it was really fun.

Jona, you should see Holy Crap's race times in Rayman M, they're magnificent. To what I consider, accomplishing Thousand Waterfalls in 1.16 is quite an achievement, but I was beaten with a clear margin. It would be interesting to see your times so I could compare them with my own.

The problem is, I'll have to redo all the races because I have completely forgotten the times.

Yeah, same here, and I only have them on my old comp too. And I think it was deinstalled there, so I'd have to try it on my new comp sometime, see if it still works. I remember getting around the same time in that level. By the way I also heard of another version in which it was possible to reach even shorter times somehow. That's kinda unfair :P

That's odd, maybe there are more shortcuts or boosters or something. Mind you, I do recall some of the "shortcuts" being rather long alternatives actually. The one in Electric Final above the slippery slide for example, it's insanely difficult to stay on the track without jumping, in fact I only remember succeeding in this one time. Then there's the bit after where you have to go through a plethora of confusing switches... far easier to take the lower level in my eyes.

I guess one of the great challenges of racing is choosing which route to take. ^^

Yeah, that level was hard! Though if you manage to master the sliding and jumping part once instead of taking the lower level, and then taking the upper level, you won't have to climb upward.

Also, Lava Factory is quite an odd level as well. I remember not being able to find all the lums in the Lums Race there. I think I'll just try installing this game on my new comp sometime soon.

I think that must be one of the only races where it is possible to remain on an upper level for a whole lap, but yeah it's such a weird place. I remember one part where there are actually three different levels and to get to them you have to flick a switch somewhere to lift up a huge climbing wall.

You could get one lap completed in such a short time though in respect with the length... there were just so many slippery platforms and boosters.

That's true. By the way, maybe it would also be an interesting (but hard) contest to play On And On, and then finish that level and see who has the most time left afterwards. o_o I believe I had like 200 seconds left at the end once, or more. Maybe even 300, I can't remember clearly :P

That would be awesome to hold such a competition, maybe I should set up such a contest and use Tings or special ranks as rewards, haha. Now there's some good incentive! Perhaps it's worth trying.

Anyway, last time I played On and On, I seem to remember getting a ridiculous amount of free time too, but I just can't remember the exact figures.

A guy named Ghazul posted amazing videos of Rayman 1 time races on YouTube. For example, the last part of Eat at Joe's in less than 45 seconds. All of them can be seen here.
