Problem with console selecting.

O.K., as stated above, I have some bunch of money and I want to buy something. The problem is I don't know what. I think many people have same problem, so don't lock the topic if I actually send opinion after buying something.

NOTE: This is another than "Best Videogame System", because it tries to fit SOMEBODY'S tastes, not yours.

So let's start. I would play with console out of home. This actually doesn't mean I have to buy NDS/GBx/PSP, as I have a portable DVD player with AV IN option. (Acting as TV set, for instance.) However, console needs to be small. So original Xbox, PS3 and NGC doesn't qualify (I think), and I'm not sure in case of X360 (Question 1. How big is it?). I'm also not sure in case of games - in case you didn't know, I play almost only platformers (however, I've liked also falling blocks games, and this type of "party" games that is reresented by Smash Bros. and Rayman M). Here the question 2 goes - do you know any noted above on following platforms (PS2/Wii/PSP/NDS, eventually GBA/X360) ? (Don't tell me about Sonic, Mario and Rayman, as I know this names and can use "search" box utility).
So points I currently have: (Question 3: Are they true? Question 4. What with '?' ?)
PS2.
+: Cheap games, small size.
-: Pads; lots of bad games.
?: Possibility to pack; battery (external)?
Wii.
+: Some really good games; possibility to pack.
-: R-Arena only on NTSC consoles; price of games; "casual" games; no web support if you don't lie.
?: Remotes and pads.
NDS.
+: Cheaper than Wii; doesn't need DVD; have some good games probably.
-: Small possibilities; don't know games really; don't know is cart dumper available.
?: Pad; games.
PSP.
+: RAYMAN 1!!!!!
-: Prices (don't know in case of R1); pad.

+: It is completely open source. You can make your own games for it, and download games other people have made for it, all free and legal.
+: It is as powerful as the Wii.
+: It already has a bunch of emulators (PSX and most older Atari, Sega and Nintendo consoles), and even Dreamcast emulation might just be a possibility.

I recomend the PS2, you can play all 3 main Rayman games on it and RR and RM.

Pandora can play R1, R2, Rayman Junior and Rayman Rush (all PS1), as well as R2 N64 (N64 emulation is very likely), maybe R1 DOS if they port DOSBox, as well as R1 Jaguar and both betas, and (possible but improbable) R1 Saturn and R2 DC. No Rayman 3 or Rayman M, though (unless someone manages to port them).

Oh yeah, and it can also play R1 GBC, R2 GBC, R1 GBA, R3 GBA, R:HR, RRR GBA, and maybe the DS games too (it has a touchscreen).

Anyway, it has more Rayman games than any other console.

Personally I'd go with the PS2. Some great platformers include the Jak Series, the entire Crash Bandicoot series and of course the three Main Rayman games as well as RM and RRR. And I think there are a few sonic games on Ps2 as well, but I don't know of any good ones. And as you said, they're small and cheap. In Australia you can get most games for about $20-$30.

The problem with things like GBA, DC, Genesis and Pandora is when they're somehow awesome, they're not officially available in Poland if you're not getting them from abroad, which cause paying VAT and duty, that means you have to have 18 years, or auctions, which basically also need it. And first batch of Pandie's isn't eve done yet.

I agree here. It's not very new or fancy or anything, but you can get it in mini size. Also, you can play Rayman Revolution on it.

If you get a modded PS2 you can download and burn an R1 PS1 ISO and play it.

Don't be too quick to rule out the PSP; a hacked one can play PS1 and N64 games, as well as many others. A slim PS2 is very small. I'm not sure of the measurements...it's about the size of a...book. PS1 games like R1 and R2 take up hardly any space on the memory card, so that won't be a problem. Not sure about the PS2 Rayman games, but they shouldn't take up too much either, it's not FFXII we're talking about here. PS2 also plays CDs, and you can play online with some games. And a PS1 game will work fine with a PS2 memory card.

In this case, it would be even easier to get Pandie somehow. I want to buy console X mainly to play games for console X, not console Y. However, the R1 is still SO interesting...

EDIT: It seems like Wii's also out of competition. God, paying 1100 PLN for console alone when PStwo with memcard costs 475 PLN and typical game 80 PLN!

I still dunno on DS.
