What are everyone's views here on learning Latin?

I don't think so, it might be a good idea though.Xenon09 wrote:By the way, while we're on the topic of German forums, has anyone advertised at the spiel forum (or whatever the darn name is)?
I studied Latin for three years, but I skipped a grade so I started learning it with people who already had one year of Latin behind them. Unfortunately, it hasn't been very useful because I never did my homework or even listened to the teacher, when I wasn't skipping classes... So, do it if you have the motivation, or just forget about it.Matyuv wrote:What are everyone's views here on learning Latin?
Re: What languages do you have at your school?
Yeah, lack of motivation to learn it is the main problem about it for me.. Let's be honest, the language is "dead" (well, it's still used in biology and medicine though, but my point is that nobody speaks it... does anyone?) and I don't really see any particular reason why people learn it.. Like a friend of mine, you might know her, Maria (member here, her username is Shinobu I believe), well she studies it, and in her school she had to choose between learning Maths and Latin... guess what she chose.
That's really weird though, Maths being optional I mean.

Maths being optional? Where's the world going? xD Anyway, Latin will only bring you personal culture, don't except to date a girl with it

What do you mean with that..? How would it?Hunchman801 wrote:Anyway, Latin will only bring you personal culture...

Maths is only optional here in the third and final year of high school. Most students take maths classes all three years, though.

There are two main reasons: you'll learn about the etymological origins of loads of words, and read many things about the Roman civilization.Matyuv wrote:What do you mean with that..? How would it?Hunchman801 wrote:Anyway, Latin will only bring you personal culture...

I learned Latin for a year, however teacher was unable to stop my classmate, The Horse-fly Kong, whose main target is ruining the lesson.
Re: What languages do you have at your school?
Portugal = Portuguese of course.
But the default Abroad Language here that's learnt at school is English, but you can also choose French, and in some schools German and Spanish.

Re: What languages do you have at your school?
I have:
Dutch (Yes, I'm Dutch ^-^)
English ( I have extra lessons called Cambridge English. 4 lessons instead of 2 lessons a week. I even have a genuine English teacher! He can't pronounce my name. XD Hey, I haven't told my real name yet, it's Pleun.^-^)
German (Next year not anymore.)
French
Greek (Next year not anymore.)
Latin
It's optional to do Spanish or Chinese.
