I almost think it's a glitch or bug similar to how Perfect Dark would simply re-locate characters for cutscenes and the like in another room, because this happens only when you revisit the area. If you go there (first time playing on a save location), he is actually standing in front of the entrance, waving.

I should have been more clear, I only meant the cave at the Marshes of Awakening, just before Rayman is teleported to the Cave of Bad Dreams.

Lums cannot enter dreams! And even if they could, why would they? And if it was all a dream then what was the point of that Spiral Door behind Jano? And how could Rayman return to the COBD through the Hall/Isle of Doors without getting hypnotized again?

Actually, I'm thinking that it was the relocation, because when I approach the door (entering the Cave of Bad Dreams via the Marsh rather than the Hall of Doors), Jano does appear and a piece of that cutscene plays in which he hypnotizes Rayman.
